Jewish self-awareness, by Steve Sailer - The Unz Review
So there are basically three areas advanced for why Jews would involve themselves in the struggle for racial equality. All three turn out to be false. But the first would be the history argument, that says blacks and Jews share a common history, and therefore Jews empathize with the historical experience of blacks, and therefore they’re willing to help. Right?

Steven Pinker on genes and the Ashkenazi Jewish population | The New Republic
The Utah researchers Gregory Cochran, Jason Hardy, and Henry Harpending (henceforth CH&H) proposed that Ashkenazi Jews have a genetic advantage in intelligence, and that the advantage arose from natural selection for success in middleman occupations (moneylending, selling, and estate management) during the first millennium of their existence in northern Europe, from about 800 C.E. to 1600 C.E. Since rapid selection of a single trait often brings along deleterious by-products, this evolutionary history also bequeathed the genetic diseases known to be common among Ashkenazim, such as Tay-Sachs and Gaucher's.

Why do British Jews live 5 or 6 years longer? - The Unz Review
According to James Thompson at the Unz Review, a 115 IQ leads to an average lifespan of 5.5 years longer than a 100 IQ. Some of the longer lifespan is no doubt due to better decision making due to higher IQ, but some of the longer lifespan and higher IQ is due to fewer unfavorable mutations.

Commentary: Why was the Israeli teen threatening American Jewish centers? - The Unz Review
Consequently, whereas anti-Semitic acts received little media coverage during President Barack Obama’s tenure, they suddenly began receiving massive media attention following Trump’s election–not just in America, but worldwide. The result, given the teen’s longstanding modus operandi, was inevitable: For the past few months, the Israeli police sources said, he has focused all his energy on threatening Jewish institutions in the U.S., because he knew that would create the media outcry he wanted.

TheMoneyIllusion » Scott Alexander on the Holocaust
Scott emphasizes that the primary blame lies with the Nazis.  They did the murdering.  Nonetheless, the decision not to admit Jewish refugees did have horrendous consequences.  At the time, the “America First” movement was quite popular, somewhat anti-Semitic, and very isolationist.  In fairness, I probably would have been isolationist back then, but I’d hope I would not have been anti-refugee.

Remembering Jewish white flight from L.A. public schools - The Unz Review
But when school demographics began to shift as working class Latino and African American populations burgeoned, many Jewish families pulled out of public schools and migrated to the private realm.

The Jewish exodus from LAUSD reached its peak during the desegregation movement of the 1970s. After the ACLU filed a lawsuit in 1963 to end segregation in L.A. schools, the LAUSD board created voluntary integration programs, introducing magnet schools and giving district schools the option of busing students from lower-performing facilities to higher performing schools. In 1976, the California Supreme Court charged state school districts with enforcing integration. In response, two years later the L.A. school board began a sweeping mandatory busing program that would reassign more than 60,000 students, transferring minority children from downtown and South L.A. to predominantly white schools in the San Fernando Valley and the Westside, and vice versa.

The Ghetto of Talent, Bryan Caplan | EconLog | Library of Economics and Liberty
To use Clemens, Montenegro, and Pritchett's terminology, Murray is essentially estimating the "place premium" for Jewish achievement. As long as Jews remained in literal ghettos, most of their creative abilities were invisible - and wasted. In order to live up to their full potential, the Jews had to physically and intellectually migrate. Some declined to do so even after they had the option. But the rest took to social integration like fish to water - and the results are staggering.

That claim that Harvard admissions discriminate in favor of Jews? After seeing the statistics, I don’t see it. « Statistical Modeling, Causal Inference, and Social Science
In his article, Unz claims to have found that elite college admissions underrepresent Asian-Americans (in comparison to their academic talent achievements) and overrepresent Jews, leaving non-Jewish whites squeezed out. Looking at the statistics more carefully, we see no evidence that Jews are admitted preferentially compared to other whites. Unz’s error arose because he used different sorts of information with different biases that did not cancel out but actually reinforced each other, underestimating the proportion of high-achieving Jews and overestimating the Jewish presence among Ivy League students.

Why Jews Don’t Farm at Steven Landsburg | The Big Questions: Tackling the Problems of Philosophy with Ideas from Mathematics, Economics, and Physics
But the Jews (like everyone else) were beholden not just to economic rationalism, but also to the dictates of their religion. And the Jewish religion, unique among religions of the early Middle Ages, imposed an obligation to be literate. To be a good Jew you had to read the Torah four times a week at services: twice on the Sabbath, and once every Monday and Thursday morning. And to be a good Jewish parent you had to educate your children so that they could do the same.

The literacy obligation had two effects. First, it meant that Jews were uniquely qualified to enter higher-paying urban occupations. Of course, anyone else who wanted to could have gone to school and become a moneylender, but school was so expensive that it made no sense. Jews, who had to go to school for religious reasons, naturally sought to earn at least some return on their investment. Only many centuries later did education start to make sense economically, and by then the Jews had become well established in bankin

Why are so many Russian Jews Republicans? — Marginal Revolution
I would suggest that many Russian Jews, compared to American Jews, are much less hesitant to affiliate with the American brand of Christianity found in the Republican Party.  Related strains of thought have been prevalent in Russia for a long time, yet for a long while their Christian nature was covered up by communist rule.  Furthermore attachment to Israel, rather than a lifelong felt contrast with American Christians, or strict Judaic observance, is the source of Jewish identity for many Russian Jews.  So affiliation with a fairly Christian party is not jarring for the Russian Jews and indeed it may be welcomed, especially if it dovetails with pro-Israel attitudes.

Reflections on World on Fire, Bryan Caplan | EconLog | Library of Economics and Liberty
The negative side effect of free-market reforms: The market-dominant minorities disproportionately benefit, increasing popular resentment. The negative side effect of democratization: Market-dominant minorities disproportionately suffer, because the majority finally gets a chance to legally enforce its resentment. Pushing both reforms on developing countries simultaneously - which Chua claims the U.S. government habitually does - gives the worst of both worlds: Increasing resentment - and the opportunity to politically act upon it. If the stars align badly enough, preaching democratic capitalism gives you Yugoslavia or Rwanda.

Growth: Why is America so rich? | The Economist
Mr Smith also gets at something important in discussing immigration and talent. The economic geography of the world is lumpy, and talent likes to clump together into centres of innovation. Through fortune and foresight, America managed to develop world-leading centres of talent in places like Silicon Valley, Boston, and New York. Relatively open immigration rules and the promise of a safe harbour for war refugees, including persecuted Jews, helped build these knowledge centres. When one combines that innovative capacity with a system that makes it relatively easy to develop ideas and relatively lucrative to exploit them economically, the potential is there for rapid and sustained growth.

Inductivist: Mexican Americans are least politically active
"Jews and Asian Indians--two smart and economically successful groups--are the most politically active, while Italian and Mexican Americans are at the bottom. Historically, these two groups have been apathetic about politics. Notice how American Muslims are low on the list. Currently, they don't seem to be very political."

Update on religious affiliations of Supreme Court justices - Statistical Modeling, Causal Inference, and Social Science
"It looks as if Jews and men have been overrepresented, also Episcopalians (which, as I noted earlier, are not necessarily considered Protestant in terms of religious doctrine but which I counted as such for the ethnic categorization). Religion is an interesting political variable because it's nominally about religious belief but typically seems to be more about ethnicity."

The Jewish Factor in Blue States - Statistical Modeling, Causal Inference, and Social Science
", I could not help but think that the Jewish factor should go at least some way toward explaining why rich states like New York and California vote Democrat and why rich voters in rich states, although tending Republican, are less likely to do so than in poor red states, where almost no Jews live and where there is limited Jewish influence in the local media, academia, politics, and intellectual culture."
