The global political economy of the superrich | Daniel W. Drezner
"Furthermore, I'm not entirely convinced they're as powerful as Freeland or Drum or Felix Salmon suggests. As Freeland pointed out, they fought a lot of the Obama administration's first-half policies tooth and nail -- and they actually lost a fair amount of the time. Indeed, nary a year ago some pundits were declaring the death of Davos man. "

There are no Big Lies in the latest Wikileaks data dump | Daniel W. Drezner
"If this kind of official hypocrisy is really the good stuff, then there is no really good stuff. U.S. officials don't always perfectly advocate for human rights? Not even the most naive human rights activist would believe otherwise. American diplomats are advancing U.S. commercial interests? American officials have been doing that since the beginning of the Republic. American diplomats help out their friends? Yeah, that's called being human. I'm willing to be convinced otherwise, but it strikes me that these leaks show other governments engaged in far more hypocritical behavior. "

danieldrezner.com :: Daniel W. Drezner » There’s never a good time to burst an asset bubble
"One of the newly-formed pieces of conventional wisdom emerging from the current financial morass is that the Federal Reserve and other central bank heads should be more alert to spot asset bubbles and pop them before things really get out of hand. This is one of those pieces of advice that sounds great in theory but fiendishly difficult to apply in practice. When, exactly, is a bubble a bubble?"

Megan McArdle (April 04, 2008) - A mystery for the ages (Curious questions)
"What's puzzling to me, however, is that this tactic of redundant repitition renders Krugman unbelievably boring. After the 50th op-ed hammering home the same point, Krugman winds up alienating even his natural allies."

"It’s hard to look at this history and conclude Nafta is the villain. In fact, Nafta did little to reduce tariffs on Mexican manufacturers, notes Matthew Slaughter, a Dartmouth economist. Those tariffs were already low before the agreement was signed."
