Review: 2018 Honda CR-V checks the boxes, hits the marks
The Honda CR-V is a top seller in the compact crossover-SUV market in North America, and there's good reason for that. It hits the mark for most people shopping in this segment, checking off boxes like safety, comfort, and everyday performance. The 2018 CR-V is as unobtrusive as they come, too.

The all-new 2018 model brings the Crosstrek into its second generation. The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek is well on its way to becoming a best-seller in the segment and it deserves that kind of attention.

Review: 2019 Jeep Cherokee stays the course
Jeep has revamped the Cherokee for the 2019 model year, adding a new design, more interior room, and another engine option. The 2019 Cherokee is otherwise largely the same as the previous-gen crossover, which isn't a bad thing. After a week in one, we think it's a vehicle that is worthy of carrying the Jeep Cherokee name.

Review: 2018 Dodge Durango SRT
Those who walk through the doors of a Dodge dealership very likely know what they are going to be looking at. Dodge does one thing as a brand and they do it really, really well. That thing is making really muscular-looking vehicles and then shoving a matching amounts of steroids under the hood. The 2018 Durango SRT is a good example of how that works and why it’s so freaking awesome.

Review: 2018 Infiniti Q50 3.0t
Of all of the vehicles in the Infiniti line, the Q50 is probably the most timeless. For the 2018 model year, the Q50 shuffles a few things, but remains as it’s been for some time. Unlike many in the luxury segments, however, the 2018 Infiniti Q50 holds its age well and after a week in this sedan, we still like it for everything that it is.

2018 Honda Odyssey : Review
Many have been under the impression that the minivan is on its way out, dying the slow death of a thousand crossover pricks. Yet the market seems to have other ideas as both leading van sellers in the game have brought out new generations of their vans. With Chrysler coming out with the Pacifica and now Honda bringing out a new-generation Odyssey, it looks like minivans are back in the game.

The Honda Odyssey was introduced in 1995 and quickly became one of the best selling vans on the market. Although sales are now far lower than they were in the heyday of minivans two decades ago, the appeal of a big, comfortable, even luxurious ride with tons of interior real estate continues to bring customers to the lot.

2018 Chevrolet Cruze Hatch : Review
The Chevrolet Cruze is a smart little compact car that hits the button for many buyers. As a daily driver, a commuter’s car, or as a small second car for the family, the Cruze has something to match. Those looking to maximize all of the Cruze’s qualities, though, should look at the upscale and well-designed little Cruze Diesel in its hatchback format that’s new for this year.

The 2018 Chevrolet Cruze Hatch Diesel combines the sportiness of the Cruze’s inherent nature with the excellent fuel economy of a diesel and the versatility and downright usefulness of a hatchback. The interior design, road handling, and fun nature of the Cruze are all winning points.

That doesn’t mean that the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze is perfect for everyone, of course. The diesel is a bit sluggish off the line and the rear seating is not totally adult friendly, but the Cruze Diesel Hatch offers a nicely rounded set of goodness that we like.

2018 Mitsubishi Outlander - iSeeCars.com
The 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander is a three-row crossover in the larger compact range. Its main high points are the very low price for a three-row, a feature-rich interior and real-world all-weather capability. The Outlander doesn't wow any audiences otherwise, with its average looks and lackluster performance.

Even with its boring drive quality, there is a lot to like about the 2018 Outlander. This is a family-level crossover that brings the goods, checking the boxes for most average family needs, such as seating for up to seven and plenty of cargo space. Fuel economy is good and safety is high, both big requirements for most three-row buyers.

2018 BMW M550i : Review
The top performance model in the BMW 5 Series lineup, the 2018 BMW M550i is the model line’s muscle car, but with all of the refinement and top-shelf excellence we’d expect from a German-made sports sedan.

BMW reintroduced the 5 Series as a redesigned model for 2017, but was missing a muscular M series offering. Those came this year, with the M550i being the most powerful of the 5 Series on offer. We drove the 2018 M550i for a week and loved every minute of it.

This midsize luxury sports sedan offers power, luxury, and road handling well beyond any pure muscle car on the road. BMW knows how to build a true driver’s car and when they add their M badge to something, it means it’s gone past being merely great to drive and turned into something beautiful.

Review: Sporty 2018 Infiniti Q50 Stays Competitive Despite Aged Design
The 2018 Infiniti Q50 is aged compared to its rivals, but like anything that ages well, the Q50 has a little wisdom behind it. There is no lack of competition in the luxury sport sedan class and the Q50 faces off against competition that is almost all newer and more modern in design. A light refresh for 2018 and some upgrades made a couple of years ago come together to keep the Q50 relevant. For now.

It’s worth noting that although the 2018 Q50 is now well past middle age (in automotive design years), it’s wearing that age well. Sporty engine options, a timeless exterior and a good interior design all keep it up to par with rivals.

Tesla vs. gas car: Which state offers the biggest fuel savings?
A report released by the University of Michigan’s Transportation Research Institute is showing the cost savings to the average vehicle owner versus those same owners driving electric. The report compares gasoline fuel costs state-by-state to the cost of electricity for equivalent miles driven. The differences are shown in both ratios and dollar figures, with owners in some specific states seeing much higher savings when driving electric versus those from other states.

The report is unique in that it ignores the often-politicized arguments for data of this nature; such as the “source-to-use” data often manipulated or argued. Instead, it looks purely from a consumer perspective, showing what kinds of cost savings could be had for the average vehicle owner in any given state.

The Hyundai Santa Fe's appeal is its mixture of affordability and accommodation. The Santa Fe offers comfortable seating for six or seven passengers, a strong-performing V6 engine and plenty of family friendly capability.

The 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe carries over largely unchanged from the excellent 2017 model. There are three trim levels to choose from, each seating six or seven, depending on configuration.

Although the 2018 Santa Fe may not be the best option in the midsize three-row market, it's certainly one of the more economically appealing because of its value orientation. (The smaller Santa Fe Sport is reviewed separately.)

2017 Toyota Land Cruiser - iSeeCars.com
The Toyota Land Cruiser entered a new generation last year as an all-new rendering of what's now Toyota's longest-running model brand. The Land Cruiser was introduced in 1951 and has seen various iterations since, building on a strong reputation for durability and go-anywhere reliability.

With the all-new model for the 2016 model year, the 2017 Land Cruiser continues forward with no significant changes. Upgrades last year included new exterior styling, a new transmission and a lot of safety technology. The modern Land Cruiser is a more plush, mannered drive compared to its rough-and-tumble predecessors, but it retains their legendary capability.

Driving Hot Cars on Ice in Colorado
Our friends at Rocky Mountain Redline in Colorado invited us to jump into some awesome vehicles and drive them on a gymkhana course on a frozen lake. Our initial response was “Sure, that’d be cool.” ‘Cause we’re snarky like that. Then it became “Holy bucket list item, Batman! F YA!” After we were off the phone, of course. We’re professionals.

Not long after, the list of vehicles to be in attendance arrived in our inbox. Cars like the Acura NSX, Lexus IS 350 F Sport, Dodge Challenger GT, and others were immediate eye-catchers. So were crossovers like the Porsche Macan GTS, the Honda Pilot, and more. Brands like Alfa Romeo, Mercedes-Benz, and Toyota (with a trim called “Adventure”) were also in attendance. This was gonna be good.

2017 Lexus NX 300h is Hybrid Luxury Worth Having
The Lexus NX 300h is the only hybrid compact luxury crossover on the market, but that doesn’t mean that Toyota’s luxury arm has gotten lazy with it. Styling is a key element in the luxury segments and the NX carries that well, along with a top-shelf interior and solid fuel economy.

Buying a Used Car As a Fixer-Upper
Fixer-upper cars are usually purchased as-is, off the street, with little or no expectation or knowledge of the vehicle’s true breadth of problems. These cars can be a great bargain to the home mechanic or a huge headache. Purchasing a vehicle with the intent of fixing it to become roadworthy and (mostly) reliable is a great way to save money in both the short term and, sometimes, over the long run. It can also become a costly mistake.

Heavy rains at CES 2018 highlights self-driving technology limitations
At the Consumer Electronics Show annual showcase of technology in Las Vegas this year, something important was inadvertently highlighted. Inclement weather at CES 2018 caused several manufacturers and suppliers to cancel or significantly alter their autonomous vehicle showcases. Nissan, for example, discontinued showings of its new ProPilot technology in the 2019 Nissan LEAF electric car (demos of the LEAF otherwise continued).
