CarNewsCafe.com BMW boosts all-electric i3 production after increased demand » CarNewsCafe.com
BMW’s i-Drive team is different from your run of the mill BMW gasoline cars. They are unique, different, and of course either sport only an electric drivetrain or some form of hybrid system. The all-electric i3, we briefly drove at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2013 can be bought as a pure electric vehicle (EV), or with a range extender (REX), as BMW calls it. It’s other i8 is a stunning plug-in hybrid (PHEV) aimed toward performance, with a hefty price tag at around $135,925.

CarNewsCafe.com A Johammer electric motorcycle to make your neighbors talk » CarNewsCafe.com
We love motorcycles at CarNewsCafe. In fact, the more the better, and electric motorcycles offer so much potential. If the gasoline internal combustion engine (ICE) has the follow problem, the need to constantly boost performance, the electric motor has the opposite. You need to tone down the wild 100% torque as soon as it spins, otherwise your electric vehicle (EV) would just spin tires until they melted. Isn’t that a sweet problem to have. Think about it. One needs to boost the performance, the other needs to tone it down. Which one would you rather have?

Advanced fuel pressure testing – going beyond basic pressure
Last month, we talked about fuel pressure testing, covering the basics for testing the fuel pump. If the pump is operating (covered as the first test to conduct), then testing to see that it's putting out the correct amount of pressure is next. If the pump is operating, but not producing the pressure you expect, then most likely the pump has an issue. There are other things it could be and you may need to know if there is a blockage, a problem with the regulator, an issue with volume (rather than pressure), etc.

To check those things, you'll need a more advanced knowledge of the fuel system in your fuel-injected vehicle and how to test for these problems specifically.

How to perform a Vacuum Leak test
One of the fundamental tests often mentioned in our forums is a vacuum leak test. It's a diagnostic tool that can be the source of many problems you may be having. Think of your car's engine as a big vacuum cleaner that sucks in air in measured amounts, mixes it with fuel, and then pushes the dirty air leftover after the explosion out a controlled series of pipes and outside. While we've discussed problems with moving the dirty air out (aka exhaust back pressure testing), we have not discussed bringing air into the engine.
