Troubleshooting an Automatic Climate Control System
Automatic climate control systems are very convenient, but can be costly to repair if something goes wrong. Diagnosing these systems can be time consuming and frustrating. If you understand how they work and what is most likely to go wrong, however, things can be much simpler.

Toyota first company with a 300-mile range zero emissions vehicle - Torque News
EPA estimates Toyota Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle has 312 miles range.
Toyota announced this week that it is the first automaker to offer a zero (local) emissions vehicle with a range of over 300 miles. While other automakers are planning more affordable battery-electric EVs that will be able to go 200 miles without refueling or recharging, Toyota’s Mirai has been evaluated by the EPA and that agency has stamped the FCEV with a 312 mile range. The Mirai’s only tailpipe emission is water vapor. Vehicles of this type are called ZEVs, or zero emission vehicles, by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), who is the current de facto regulator of green vehicle technology in the US.

Regionally specific lifecycle CO2 emissions per mile traveled for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the US can vary widely based on grid emission factors (i.e., the “carbon footprint” of electricity production and use), according to a new study by researchers at Carnegie Mellon University. Under some conditions, the battery electric Nissan LEAF can produce higher emissions than a Toyota Prius hybrid. The paper is published in the ACS journal Environmental Science & Technology.

Diagnosing Fuel Pump Problems
When issues of starting, rough idle, or misfire come up, one of the prime culprits is often the fuel pump. Pumps are expensive and time-consuming to replace, however, so testing before buying and installing new parts is a must. Not knowing what the problem is and blindly throwing parts at it until it's resolved (or you're broke) are not a smart way to diagnose and fix things.

The 2015 Volvo V60 Is One Sexy Wagon - Guys Gab
Station wagons are not generally what most would consider objects of desire. Yet for many of us, a wagon brings back early childhood memories where the station wagon was our combination playpen and window to the world as we drove by it. In the days before child safety seats and back seat DVD players, station wagons ruled the road as the family haulers of choice. Today, they have largely been replaced by crossovers and minivans. But there are still some great station wagons out there plying the roads and sitting on dealership lots waiting for those few who still see a wagon as sexy to come and take them out for a drive.

2015 Gering Father's Day Classic - CarNewsCafe.com
Every year on the weekend of Father’s Day, the town of Gering, Nebraska hosts a huge classic car show. The show, in recent years, has attracted car clubs and enthusiasts from around the region with some coming as from as far away as Southern Colorado, Western Montana, and even Ohio and Kansas.

Cars being shown range from rat rods to customized old cars to fully original classics. I usually focus on the classics being shown, the originals that haven’t seen much modification outside of maybe some paint and interior work. I don’t mind the other categories, they just aren’t my thing. This year, about 400 cars were on display at the show and the parking lot yielded a dozen or so more as well. Here are highlight photos from my annual Father’s Day trek to check out what’s being shown in Nebraska.

Honda Gives Civic CNG the Pink Slip - CarNewsCafe.com

The Fit, Accord, Pilot, CR-V, and even the Civic are all at the top of the MPG charts for their respective classes. This seems to be making Honda’s management wonder why they’re doing so many alternative fuel options that, frankly, aren’t selling well.

So they’re giving the only factory-made natural gas-powered car on the market the boot. That’s right, the Honda Civic CNG is getting its pink slip as Honda turns towards hydrogen fuel cells and dual-motor hybrids.
