Chris Cornell Immortalized at Los Angeles’ The Forum | Live Review | Consequence of Sound
Not even one of LA's worst storms could stop this all-star pilgrimage to The Forum
Seattle Comes to Los Angeles: It was only fitting that the massive “I Am the Highway: A Tribute to Chris Cornell” would fall right in the heart of the most intense rainstorm Los Angeles has seen in years. With the Forum already a challenging destination situated deep in the heart of Inglewood, CA, the relentless rain reduced traffic to around the arena into one giant rock ‘n’ roll parking lot. It was a pilgrimage only for the hardcore and headstrong, as no one going in could have anticipated a nearly five-hour celebration that would include a host of superstar special guests ranging from Miley Cyrus to Peter Frampton.
Emotions ran sky-high as friends, family and fans remembered the man who represented everything great about the early ‘90s Seattle rock scene. So impossibly talented, so unfathomably beautiful, blessed with a voice that could rip a portal into another dimension, according to Jack Black. His spirited introduction to Metallica’s set encapsulated the mood of the evening: always remembering the music and the memories that will live on into eternity.

The Truth Behind What Caused Paul Walker's Fatal Crash - The Drive
The likely cause is so mundane we never talk about it. Let's change that.
Your tires are the most important part of your car. They can make you faster, they can save your life, or they can get you killed, even if you’re the star of a major car-centric action franchise, and even if you aren’t driving. (Spoiler alert: the driver dies too).
Considering how important tires are, they aren’t given nearly enough credit in the media or in car-guy circles. Sure, every racer talks about tires, and a lot of canyon warriors will sit on top of the snake talking setup, but on the internet and in casual conversation with casual enthusiasts, tires are a dull topic. You certainly can’t brag about them on a forum the way you can with your upgraded turbo and fresh dyno chart. You have to go into the Grassroots Motorsports catalog, or to a very specific sub-genre to see a tire comparison test for your desired application, so most people just end up reading reviews on TireRack.
Tires are a dull topic even when we’re actively shopping for tires. They have insanely complicated naming schemes like GoodRubber GoodGripper Pro XGV25, which makes them even harder to discuss than Infiniti’s current lineup. In all seriousness, I have a set of tires on my Mustang at the moment called “Continental ContiForce Contact.” That’s a real name under which a real set of tires is marketed. Most people don’t have the luxury of actually testing tires before they buy either, making decisions based on either anecdotal evidence, a roll of the dice, budget, or a combination of the three.

The Life of Jean Seberg in Pictures - Flashbak
"Her every movement is graceful, each glance is precise. The shape of her head, her silhouette, her walk, everything is perfect." - François Truffaut
In 1974, after a rough few years, Jean Seberg was asked in an interview how she was coping, “I’m feeling around,” she said, “if you want to know what I’ll be doing ten years from now. I couldn’t say. It’s like asking a woman whether she’ll be graceful at 45…
Six years later, aged 40, she was found in the back of a car on a side street in Paris. It was August and her decomposing body, wrapped in a blanket, had lain there undiscovered for ten days. The cause of death was an overdose of barbiturates and was deemed by the French authorities as “probably suicide”. A note to her son was found:
Forgive me. I can no longer live with my nerves. Understand me. I know that you can and you know that I love you. Be strong. Your loving mother, Jean.
She was only just  eighteen when she flew to England in 1956 to play the leading role in the movie version of George Bernard Shaw’s Saint Joan. As an utterly inexperienced student from Marshalltown, Iowa, she had been chosen from 18,000 hopefuls by director Otto Preminger in a $150,000 talent search. The script was rewritten by Graham Greene and she had to appear along side John Gielgud, Anton Wallbrook and Richard Widmark. It must have been incredibly daunting.
The film was a flop both critically and commercially and while it was flawed in many ways most of the critics seemed to single out the teenage Seberg in particular. The Times wrote: ‘Joan was young, certainly, and ignorant, but she had outstanding qualities…and of those qualities Miss Seberg shows not a trace.’ ” The New Yorker’s John McCarten wrote of the movie, ‘The leading romper is a seventeen-year-old girl, who, as played by Jean Seberg, makes one long to give her a solid, and possibly therapeutic, paddling …’
Preminger was attacked for his presumption, Seberg said, “for trying to make an actress out of a country bumpkin like myself, and I was told (by the critics) to get back to the farm. It was amazing, the cruelty of some of the reviews.”

Anthony Bourdain remembered by Mark Lanegan | Food | The Guardian
25 June 1956 - 8 June 2018
The musician remembers his friend, the charismatic chef, author and presenter who was as warm and enthusiastic in private as he was on screen

It broke my heart when Tony died. I loved so much about him. His obvious love for life and for people. His balls-out willingness to do whatever was put in front of him. He was ultra-charismatic on television, in his writing, and in person, but totally down to earth with everybody he met. I was a fan for years before we became friends. He seemed like someone who would be great to hang out with. And so it turned out.
I first came across Tony watching his shows on the Travel Channel [No Reservations and The Layover]. Then I got Kitchen Confidential [his 2000 bestseller about working in New York kitchens] and just loved it. A few years later, he got to know Queens of the Stone Age, but I had left the band as a full-time member by that point. The guys had heard he was in town, invited him to a show, and they just hit it off. He had such a great sense of humour. He got them to play Christmas songs in Christmas jumpers on his show. After that, Josh [Homme, Queens of the Stone Age frontman] introduced Tony to my music. He got into it pretty heavily, which I heard about. I found it unbelievably gratifying.

Harry Potter and the diplomat's son series by lady angel / dameange
"Sometimes it isn’t about nature versus nurture. Sometimes it’s nature and nurture. Instead of being raised as Harry Potter by the Dursleys, he became Harbin Chevalier, the son of a French diplomat, and part of a loving muggle family. What would have been different?"

really different concept, taking the wizarding world by diplomacy
