Hear Unreleased Version of “The Best of Everything” from New Tom Petty Box | Music News | Consequence of Sound
The greatest hits compilation is due out November 16 and features 38 tracks from the artist's career
A year on, and the death of Tom Petty still feels like a tremendous loss to rock fans (including our very own Michael Roffman, who waxed poetic about the singer’s works on the one-year anniversary of his passing). Still, his incredible catalog of catchy jams and wailing ballads lingers on. Last week brought the release of the posthumous box set An American Treasure, featuring 60 tracks culled from the rock icon’s extensive catalog. Now, Geffen Reccords and UME have set a November 16th release for a new greatest hits collection called The Best of Everything.
The 38-track set serves as a microcosm of Petty’s career, featuring remastered tracks from The Heartbreakers, his first band Mudcrutch, and even to his solo work. The box set also contains two previously unreleased tracks, “For Real,” and an alternate version of “The Best of Everything” that includes a heretofore-unheard second verse originally meant for the Heartbreakers’ 1985 album Southern Accents. Stream the latter via Spotify below.

Lefsetz Letter » Blog Archive » Marty Balin
I had a taste of the real world (just a drop of it)
When I went down on you girl
That’s what passed for salaciousness back in ’75, when the Jefferson Airplane, reconstituted as Jefferson Starship, sans Jorma and Jack, came out of nowhere to dominate the charts once again.
Actually, there was a prelude, back in ’74, on the previous album by this incarnation, when Marty Balin guest-starred on “Caroline,” the best track on “Dragon Fly.”
But Grace Slick gets all the credit. Not that she does not deserve a lot of it, she was one of a kind, Courtney Love with better music and a better temperament, even though Grace did go off the rails at the end of her fame with her drinking.
But Jefferson Airplane has been forgotten completely. Whittled down to two tracks, “Somebody To Love” and “White Rabbit.” An oldies act for oldies radio. Nothing meaningful, whereas that was anything but the case.

"Voldemort kidnaps Harry, but really it's fine. Much more than fine. Their tentative alliance will end the war between wixes, but with the statute of secrecy crumbling the magical world is going to need some unlikely leadership. And Harry wants to save people as usual, and maybe it's not so ridiculous that he could save Voldemort too."

Jefferson Airplane Singer Marty Balin Dead at 76 | Consequence of Sound
Balin also sang in offshoot Jefferson Starship
Marty Balin, founding member and singer of Jefferson Airplane, has died.
According to Rolling Stone, Balin passed away Thursday at the age of 76. A cause of death was not immediately known.
Alongside Paul Kantner, Balin formed Jefferson Airplane in 1965. Rumor has it that the band’s name was inspired by a slang term for a marijuana roach clip. Their pro-drug stance and psych-folk-rock sound quickly made them a fixture in San Francisco’s fledgling counterculture scene, where they performed alongside acts like Jerry Garcia, David Crosby, and Janis Joplin. They were taken under the wings of concert promoter Bill Graham, who promptly booked them to play San Francisco’s Fillmore. A record contract with RCA Victor soon followed.

"The fight against Voldemort went on for years. In the final confrontation, Harry found himself not at King's Cross, but in a whole different world - one without wizards, and without magic. He flew under the radar for two years, but when the Chitauri invaded Harry couldn't help but act. His attempt to protect civilians caught the attention of SHIELD.

After meeting the Avengers, Harry quickly finds himself entangled in far more than he bargained for. All he wanted was a safe place to stay off the streets during the winter. When Fenrir comes to Midgard and Loki escapes his prison, things get far more complicated than anyone expected."

Choosing grey by betagyre
"Hermione has always been a warrior for the Light. But when an attempt to salvage more than a Pyrrhic victory lands her in 1944, she quickly realizes that sometimes it is best to allow a lesser evil to flourish, because defeating it only creates the conditions for a greater one to rise. With conspiracies, schemes, and difficult choices in every corner, and a charismatic young Tom Riddle who is increasingly interested in her, she will eventually have to answer the question: How much darkness and grey in him can she accept?"
