Shelby Ford Mustang GT-S for Sixt Rent a Car
Sixt Rent a Car and Shelby are teaming up to put a select few hotted-up pony cars into the wrong hands.
A special Shelby-tuned Ford Mustang will soon be available to rent through Sixt Rent a Car.
With a 600-horsepower supercharged V-8 and a 10-speed automatic transmission, this special Mustang seems poised to get people into trouble, which is maybe the point.
20 cars will be available, but only at certain Sixt locations in southern California, southern Florida, and Las Vegas.
Ridiculously powerful and highly exclusive rental cars are nothing new—Corvette Z06s were available for a time, and the Ford Mustang has a history of Hertz specials—but this 600-horsepower supercharged Shelby Mustang that will soon be available through Sixt Rent a Car strikes us as one of the craziest rentals yet. Only 20 of these Shelby GT-S models will be created through a partnership by tuner Shelby American and Sixt, and each will have a supercharged version of the Mustang's 5.0-liter V-8 making "600-plus" horsepower that's mated to a standard 10-speed automatic (wisely, Sixt isn't trusting its customers with a stick shift).
Visually, the Sixt Shelbys get a new bodykit and will come painted in black and orange, mirroring the rental company's logo, and feature Sixt and Shelby GT-S badging and graphics. The GT-S has different wheels and Shelby also says it tuned the suspension for better ride quality, although it doesn't share specifics on what exactly it changed.
We don't know how much Sixt will be charging for rentals of this Mustang (go here to reserve one), but we do know it will only be available in southern California, southern Florida, and Las Vegas. It's possible that the company will impose a daily mileage limit to restrict customers from getting into too many shenanigans in these Mustangs, although we will point out that it's perfectly easy to disturb the peace with gratuitous burnouts and the like without going very far.
For truly crazed Shelby fanatics, these 20 cars will be offered for sale after they're done with rental duty—but we can't help but wonder what condition they'll be in given how people tend to treat rental cars. Now Sixt, how about lending us one to participate in another round of Rental Car Olympics?
