Paraguay’s big rivers shape its progress as a shipping dynamo | Financial Times
Crippled by rickety roads and rusting railways, Paraguay looks to that system to carry about 80 per cent of its trade. In so doing, and with investments in the past quarter of a century of about $9bn in its port and fleets, it has contrived to create the world’s third-biggest fleet of tug-steered barges, behind the US and China

How to move a masterpiece: the secret business of shipping priceless artworks
"Even once loans are agreed in principle, the real haggling is still to come. How will the art travel, and when? Who pays for insurance and shipping? (Usually the borrower.) What kind of 'display furniture' needs to be built? What kind of security systems are in place – attack-proof vitrines, alarms, guards? How about temperature and humidity? Often, explained the registrar, the battles are internal, between an institution’s own curators and conservators. 'You just know that, if it’s a 14th-century Florentine panel painting that’s too fragile to go anywhere, some curator at another museum is going to want it.' He laughed. 'The moment you put something on display, it’s at risk. But then if you listened to me, we’d never put anything on display at all.'"

Deutsche Telekom, Nokia test 5G for industrial use at the Port of Hamburg
In the firt use case, the partners installed sensors on three ships from the HPA subsidiary Flotte Hamburg GmbH & Co. KG. These sensors enable the real-time monitoring and analysis of motion and environmental data from large parts of the port area.

In the second use case, the Port Road Management Center of the HPA remotely controls the traffic flows in the port of Hamburg via a traffic light connected to the mobile network. This should help, for example, to guide trucks faster and safer through the port area, the partners said.

The third example tests high bandwidth availability: With the help of 5G technology, 3D information is transmitted to an augmented reality application. The 3D glasses allow maintenance teams on site to call up additional information such as building data or receive remote interactive support from an expert.

At the mercy of suppliers.
It was deeply random. It's very randomness suggested that maybe it was a physics problem: maybe it was alpha particles or cosmic rays. Maybe it was machines close to nuclear power plants. One site experiencing problems was near Fermilab. We actually mapped out failures geographically to see if they correlated to such particle sources. Nope. In desperation, a bright hardware engineer decided to measure the radioactivity of the systems themselves. Bingo! Particles! But from where? Much detailed scanning and it turned out that the packaging of the cache ram chips we were using was noticeably radioactive. We switched suppliers and the problem totally went away . After two years of tearing out hair out, we had a solution.

Trade War Starts Changing Manufacturers in Hard-to-Reverse Ways - The New York Times
Despite dire warnings from economists, Mr. Trump’s trade war has so far done little to derail the decade-long recovery from the Great Recession. Economic growth has remained strong, and the unemployment rate last month hit a 50-year low.
