Stream TV using Raspberry Pi and TVheadend! - Dirty Optics
I have a projector out in the theatre room, however, this same room does not have any coax run for TV reception. Nor does the projector have a tuner for Digital TV. Thus the idea for the RPi TV streamer! I could have easily gone to the local tech shop and purchased a tuner and ran some coax, but I already have an android device hooked up to the projector, why not try and stream TV to it locally in the house. My own IPTV service of sorts.

I do want to give a bit of a shout out to [CWNE88](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcmw3P6BDUFA4h3Y_FpsB_w), (Go follow him if you get a chance!) This is the guy that got me started streaming TV via the Raspberry Pi, however he concentrates a lot on multicast streaming and to be honest, most of us do not have the infrastructure to handle multicast traffic on our LAN. So I had to find an alternative option that actually worked. (dvblast works great…if you have suitable switches/routers to handle multicast) Anyhow, during my research, I stumbled across TVheadend. I learned pretty quickly that it could be installed on a Raspberry Pi and be used to stream tv via HTSP. (Home TV Streaming Protocol) HTSP is a TCP based protocol and works in a unicast type fashion without killing your home network.

Smart TV hack embeds attack code into broadcast signal—no access required | Ars Technica
Awesome.
The proof-of-concept exploit uses a low-cost transmitter to embed malicious commands into a rogue [DVB-T] signal. That signal is then broadcast to nearby devices. It worked against two fully updated TV models made by Samsung. By exploiting two known security flaws in the Web browsers running in the background, the attack was able to gain highly privileged root access to the TVs. By revising the attack to target similar browser bugs found in other sets, the technique would likely work on a much wider range of TVs.

Is anybody getting good DVB-T2 results on Rapsberry Pi 2? - Tvheadend
The Raspberry Pi shares a single bus between all usb devices (this includes Ethernet).

USB Bus 0 -> USB Port 1, 2, 3, 4, Ethernet.

Where as on a normal machine it's more like..

USB Bus 0 -> USB Port 1, 2
USB Bus 1 -> USB Port 1, 2
Ethernet

Because the RPI only has one bus anything connected via USB has to share it (overheads too). Many tuners; the 290e included hate sharing USB buses however it'll cope and as long as it thinks it has all available bandwidth it'll send the stream.

The problem comes when other usb devices want a piece of that bus bandwidth.. It's a tug of war between everything connected via USB and they all want the biggest slice..

It doesn't help that the Pi's usb driver isn't very good and the 290e driver assumes that it has full reign over the bus it's using.

I have used the 290e on my Pis (1 & 2) in the past but because of the bandwidth restrictions it's not very good for streaming..

This is one of the reasons I bought a Banana Pi M1 (with proper 1000Mb Ethernet and 4 Buses), I think I paid about £23 for it.

Since then, I have learnt a few bits of wisdom and needed to start replacing some parts and upgrade the software to something more modern. MuMuDVB - A DVB IPTV free streaming software
MuMuDVB (Multi Multicast DVB) is a program for streaming TV over a network originally based on dvbstream.

MuMuDVB can redistribute a stream from a DVB source (digital satellite television, digital terrestrial television, digital cable television, or ATSC) on a network, in multicast or in HTTP unicast. Its main feature is to take a whole transponder and put each channel on a different multicast group with a simple configuration and improved compatibility with set top boxes. MuMuDVB have a low memory and CPU footprint and is able to run on embedded platforms. Servers with 20+ DVB cards are used sucessfully with MuMuDVB with uptimes > 2 years.

MuMuDVB works under linux and uses the linux DVB API. It’s free software, and released under the terms of the GPLv2.

Some features:
* hardware descrambling using Conditionnal Access Modules
* software descrambling
* DVB-S2 via linuxtv’s S2API
* Automatic detection of the transponder channels, and follow of the transponder changes

dvbsnoop - LinuxTVWiki
dvbsnoop is a commandline DVB / MPEG stream analyzer utility, which is capable of debugging, dumping or viewing the information in such streams. It is a very usefool tool if you are in need to sniff data streams. dvbsnoop is part of the Tuxbox Project and is hosted on Sourceforge (see links below)
