Piëch's 'Mark Zero' EV Brings Innovation that Will Kill Petrol Cars for Good | DriveTribe
Range anxiety is the worst downside to electric vehicles simply because it takes hours to recharge and get back on the road. Well, Toni Piëch, a descendant of THE Ferdinand Piëch from VW, has solved it with a fast charging that is so fast we can call it a day.
Petrol cars have no other advantages over this car. That's it. Game over. EVs win.
Tesla's supercharger recharges an 85kWh Battery inside the Model S up to 80% in 40 minutes. Porsche claims their technology is three times faster and can do it in 15 minutes. Mark Zero, however, can do the same thing in 4:40 minutes.
Piëch doesn't state what capacity the batter is, but judging by the range, which is 500km (311mi) it could be as big as Tesla's 100kWh pack.
It is thanks to the newly developed kind of batteries that hardly heat up at all during fast charging that Mark Zero can be ten times faster than Tesla. No heat means higher charging current as well as no need for heavy water-based cooling solutions for the battery itself. That too saves another 200kg, which results in total vehicle weight under 1,800kg.
As James May would've said: It's a win-win-win across the board!

Watch Fast Five’s Stunt Coordinator Break Down Its Breathtaking Vault Chase
As you all already know, I am a Fast and Furious stan. I love everything about those stupid movies, but there is not one scene I love more than the vault-dragging scene from Fast Five. It’s a classic, breathless action sequence and finally I get to see it broken down bit-by-bit by its stunt coordinator.
If you haven’t seen Fast Five (and boy, are you missing out) the film’s climactic scene involves Dominic Toretto and Brian O’Conner dragging a stolen vault filled with $100 million through the streets of Rio using two matte black Dodge Chargers. There’s plenty of crashing and smashing and it’s effin’ great.
Earlier this week, Vanity Fair published an interview with Jack Gill, the stunt coordinator who worked on the vault scene from the film. Right away, he answered one of the burning questions I had when I first saw the scene: they actually dragged a 9,000-pound vault around. It was real.
And that bank building the vault smashed through? It was a specially built structure designed to be destroyed. The crew laid a huge track through the floor of the building and loaded the vault onto an enormous ram that sent it tumbling through.
Those are just two gems from the interview, which spans about 20 minutes. You should watch the whole thing, and then watch the finished product again. Behind-the-scenes stuff like this is awesome.

The 2019 Dodge Challenger and Charger Will Bring Hope to Our Grayscale Streets in Lime Green
If anything, the year 2019 will be a win for car colors in the U.S.—a dismal land where streets are often a boring blur of black, white and gray cars. In addition to highlighter-yellow Chevrolet Camaros and snot-green Honda Civics, this model year will also get lime-green Dodge Challenger and Charger performance trims.
Yes, everyone, certain Hellcats will once again get the chance to be as bright as they are loud. Go tell your Mopar Facebook group. We know you’re in one.
Fiat Chrysler announced the color this week, saying that, for the first time in at least a few years, certain Challenger and Charger models will get to wear its “Sublime” green paint. The few trims that get the color are V8 performance ones: the Charger Scat Pack and Hellcat, and the Challenger T/A and Widebody. “Widebody” accounts for several different Challengers, like the new Redeye, but FCA didn’t list any specific ones in the announcement.
