Hyun-Jin Ryu named NL Player of the Week - True Blue LA
Are you shocked?
Less than 24 hours after arguably one of the best starts of his career, Hyun-Jin Ryu was named the National League Player of the Week.
Over the last week, Ryu made two starts, winning both in convincing fashion. Last Tuesday, he threw a complete game shutout against the Atlanta Braves. In his start, he struck out six, allowed four hits, and didn’t walk a batter.
As if he couldn’t top that performance, Ryu came out and was almost perfect yesterday. He went 7 1⁄3 innings without allowing a hit, until “Dodger-killer” Gerardo Parra ended the no-hit bid with a double. Ryu responded by notching back-to-back outs to end his afternoon. He finished with eight scoreless innings, striking out nine and walking only one.
At the moment, Ryu is 5-1, with an ERA of 1.72. He has 54 strikeouts in 52 1⁄3 innings, and a WHIP of 0.726, the lowest in all of baseball. On top of that, his strikeout-to-walk ratio is 18:1, by far the highest of his career.
Though it is still early, Ryu is in serious contention for the Cy Young Award. Among NL pitchers, he’s tied for first in wins (5) and third in ERA (1.72).

Cody Bellinger named NL Player of the Month for April - True Blue LA
Bellinger caps off his historic month with Player of the Month honors
To no surprise, Cody Bellinger was named the National League Player of the Month for April. The last Dodger player to take home this honor was Justin Turner, who took home the honor for August last season.
It was a historic month for Bellinger, as he set essentially every MLB record prior to May 1. The records he set included RBI (37), base hits (47) and total bases (97). He also tied the record for most home runs hit with 14, as well as runs scored with 32.
On top of that, he led all of major league baseball in essentially every category as well. He led in those categories mentioned, as well as batting average (.431), on-base percentage (.508), slugging percentage (.890) and OPS (1.397).
If it seemed like Cody Bellinger was always on base, it’s because he was. He had a hit in 30 of the teams first 31 games. According to Dodger Insider, he became the only player in baseball history with at least 45 hits, 14 home runs and 35 RBI before May.
At the moment, Bellinger leads all of baseball with a 3.7 WAR, which is one higher than the next closest player, Mike Trout (2.5).
Not only was it a historic month at the plate for Bellinger, he also delivered a Gold Glove caliber month as well. His 0.7 defensive WAR was the sixth best in baseball, and the second highest amongst outfielders.
Bellinger gave us arguably one of the greatest overall month’s in major-league baseball history, it’s only deserving he takes home the honor.

2019 Awards Sausal Creek Restoration | ASLA-NCC
Design: Parks, Recreation, Trails and Open Space
Merit Award

Sausal Creek Restoration
Dimond Park, Oakland, CA
Restoration Design Group, Inc.
Lead Landscape Architect: Erik Stromberg, ASLA Restoration Design Group, Inc.
Client: Watershed and Stormwater Management Division, Bureau of Design and Construction, Public Works Department, City of Oakland
4 / 7

A failing culvert in a popular city park had blocked fish passage in a critical urban trout stream for over half a century. The creek banks were unravelling and the owner wanted to rehabilitate the park along the length of the stream. The Sausal Creek Restoration Project (Project) features 800 feet of improved creek habitat including better visibility of the creek, an American with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible interpretive pedestrian pathway, enhanced native rainbow trout habitat, new native trees and vegetation, and a new public restroom. The Project also improves water quality and flood control, reduces erosion, and helps protect the adjacent roadway and homes.

The Jaguar I-Pace wins World Car of the Year, World Green Car awards | Ars Technica
We were among the panel of 86 international jurors for the annual award program.
NEW YORK—On Wednesday morning, the Jaguar I-Pace won this year's World Car of the Year award at the 2019 New York International Auto Show. It beat two other finalists, the Audi e-tron and Volvo's S60 and V60 twins to top honors, as voted by a panel of 86 journalists from around the world. Disclosure: for the second year in a row, I was one of those judges. We were asked to score each eligible car on a range of attributes, including safety, the environment, performance, design, and value, but only for vehicles we actually drove. You can see the list of eligible vehicles for this year's awards here. (Sorry, Tesla fans: the Model 3 is really rather good but went on sale too long ago to be considered for this year's awards.)
I'm not surprised that the I-Pace won; as a battery electric vehicle it scored highly on its green credentials, it's a joy to drive, and it looks stunning inside and out. Much of that can be said about the Volvos and the Audi, but if I had a place to charge it and I could afford one, the I-Pace would be my pick to replace our now-totaled Saabaru. (I don't, can't, and my wife gets to pick the next car anyway.)
