In short: I found a pretty critical bug in Mojave for corporate customers that I reported months ago, and the public Bug Reporter closed it because public Bug Reporter is dumb.

When Mojave first went into beta I found a bug where if your network account password is close to expiring, Mojave won't let your Mac finish boot. Bug Reporter wouldn't take it without a sysdiagnose, which I didn't have. Coming up on new password time, and bug is still there.

iPhone XS LTE is ~3x faster than X. Same conditions. Damn that's legit. https://t.co/qK4QiMLRbB

I think I’ve been through one too many WWDC lotteries.

Got an email about my passport application that started “Thank you for submitting your application…” and totally assumed the sentence would end with me not getting a passport.

RIP ClickToFlash, for the second time. Marc Hoyois's Safari extension replacement for the old WebKit Plugin now no longer works either, starting with Safari 12.

cc @rentzsch (for old time's sake)

@marcoarment Marco, I see from the screenshots you've removed the x0.75 playback speed from Overcast 5. PLEASE bring this back. It's a completely essential feature for adults learning foreign languages. For me, this is a deal breaker. Cheers.

Yes! Long UI animations are a big reason why iPhone feels slower than my Windows computer circa 2002, despite having 10 gazillion times more processing power.

Ironically, skeuomorphism was branded as "designers showing off to each other" with iOS 7 heralded as the antidote; turns out, gratuitous animation was the more harmful, ego-driven design trend: https://t.co/YfUrthtm1r

A realisation I've come to over the years, particularly since the release of iOS 7 and, by contrast, my increased usage of Android:

Designers utilise animation much too often. More often than not, animations detract from the experience & should only be used sparingly like salt. https://t.co/N4lshQgq5K

Face ID has support for landscape orientation (presumably for iPad only), and iOS 12.1 seems to care a lot more about whether an external display is connected (perhaps due to iPad USB-C rumors; it won't have the Lighting HDMI adapter as an intermediary for video-out)

Would be crafty if you took photos with and without the telephoto lens covered, and compared then, to get a sense for the XR vs XS camera’s. That’s what everyone is trying to gauge but can’t.

I feel they always try to pull this... most of the time they relent if challenged. It is user-hostile to reject for this reason and wastes our time as one of the top questions we get near a new OS release date is "does it run on macOS 10.x?"

As of Safari 12, the Leech Contextual Menu extension no longer works. We're looking into reviving it, but Apple changed what data is available to contextual menu items, so we're looking for workarounds.

No reviews are mentioning iPhones XS, XR, and Watch 4 are the most secure iOS devices ever.

A12 and S4 devices now:
- use ARM signed pointers for all Apple software
- have new physical anti-replay counter circuit in Secure Enclave
- mitigate USB DFU hijacking in enclave firmware

As I was writing my book, I told many jokes in my stories that my editor convinced me that we should cut. Some geek programmer humor is good, but keeping control on the eyerolls/minute rate is probably better. pic.twitter.com/FTD6Sar3s7
