A month of infrequent condescending replies from Apple Dev Support capped with this gem and I'm fucking incensed.

Anyone have a good DTS/Core Graphics contact before I reply I've been doing this for a decade, are hounded by their recruiters, and know what a "view controller" is? pic.twitter.com/Mlnmvg0lnt

Trying to explain why you’re an Apple critic now that they’re fantastically successful is just like trying to explain why you were a fan back in the ‘90s when they were going bankrupt.

To people who think a company’s worth is defined by its profit or growth, we must seem crazy.

Honestly the most depressing thing about post-Steve Apple is not that it’s failing, but rather that it is succeeding spectacularly in economic terms, thereby ensuring that the far more subtle ways in which it is dying will continue unchecked.

I can believe that Tim doesn’t understand what makes Apple special, or that he is letting strategically important products suffer for the sake of short term profit, but it is not plausible to me that he doesn’t understand basic economics.

with an MBA hat on, this is great, you have a locked in premium customer base that's unlikely to switch. with my tech can help humanity hat on, they wasted an opportunity to make a bigger dent

It seems the market showed Apple this via the MBA needing to stick around, and leadership tried "what if we had 30% profit margins?" with the 5c, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯'d, and locked into "how can we get 40% margins?"

If the argument is that Apple should sacrifice some of its obscene wealth by lowering prices to expand marketshare, then sure.

But if the argument is that Apple would make more money by lowering prices, and that Tim Cook just somehow hasn’t noticed this, I think that’s unlikely.

I think despite the slightly higher price that this new MacBook Air is going to be a huge hit. To my eyes it hits the market at the perfect point.

Seemed weird to me that Apple said so much yesterday that they were all about creatives, but yet the musician they choose couldn’t even say they name of her album on stage.

If I was buying a Mac portable today I would buy the MacBook Pro“Escape”.

- More performance than the Air

- No gimmick strip above the keyboard.

- extended warranty on the butter-fuck keyboard

Are you questioning how long they can sit on a product line without updating it? Because that’s kind of, like, a core competency at Apple 😉

That's the huge problem with the Apple Pencil 2's gesture implementation — Apple's own dev materials tell you to not use the double-tap for destructive tasks as it might be accidentally triggered all the time 😅 Physical buttons do have their benefits https://t.co/vATRqUoJKZ

As it is, the double-tap gesture on the Pencil seems super gimmicky. Wouldn't surprise me to see it replaced next generation by an actual modifier button which would be so much more useful for clicks, double clicks, alt-mode stylus input, etc

Apple shouldn’t be surprised when the $999 old MacBook Air remains their most popular Mac. https://t.co/H0pJ8NjQWX

Current iMac-replacement thinking: six-core i7 Mac mini with a Dell U2718Q, 32GB aftermarket RAM. That is waaay closer to my price goals than any current iMac, and somewhat achievable with Patreon 🤞 Finally a Mac I would be happy spending money on

The revised design is only a few months old, and the problems don’t manifest immediately. The new Air was probably essentially ready to go by then, so it would take a lot to cancel it right before the holiday season. How long could they sit on it? It’s much more key than the mini

Also, many industries have workflows that _rely_ on Photoshop. And many workers in those industries therefore already use Photoshop on desktop. They need Photoshop on iPad or they can't use iPad for big parts of their job. Saying Photoshop is a big deal does not negate Affinity.
