It does seem crazy that the iPad hardware team can constantly out-ship the sw team (always designed for next year's OS), yet Macs are left languishing for 5 years between updates. I hope moving to ARM can provide Apple's desktop hardware with the cadence it needs to stay relevant

The first two MacBook Air designs were breakthrough products. Size/weight, then power/performance/design/battery life. Today's MacBook Air pushes no envelope, and merely exists as a concession to the market. Apple's portable flagship in this era is the iPad, make no mistake

I was thinking that, but they recognised that MacBook Air is a longer-standing (as far as recent memory is concerned), very valuable brand, with fond memories attached to it – hence, they didn't bother changing them and confusing customers in the process. https://t.co/DP4nEV0LA2

Oops.

I suppose here’s our annual reminder that no Retina MacBooks have true-2X the pixels that their last non-Retina equivalents offered. https://t.co/SVVlJdJqiM

This kind of sucks but makes sense. New Pencil charges and pairs magnetically, which old iPads don’t have. Old Pencils charge and pair by Lightning, which new iPad Pros don’t have.

How to weigh lots of anecdotes vs. Apple’s near complete silence? There is at the very least a huge perception of a problem. If Apple truly believes it’s fixed, maybe they should announce extended warranty coverage for the keyboard.

Apple's insistence on this keyboard design is indicative of Ive's unchecked control within the company. They tweaked the "problematic" iPhone 4 design mid-cycle with the Verizon variant; meanwhile, here we are with virtually the same keyboard 3 yrs later. https://t.co/dNXrWoObnI

I hope Apple's next CEO outlaws scrolljacking marketing pages on https://t.co/Ndr9VcBlsM. I want to find information on a page quickly, not watch some proud PR person's slideshow! 😜

Unsurprisingly, doesn't work via Application Loader either. Why does this _always_ happen? How much work needs to be done on the backend to approve a new toolchain version? pic.twitter.com/eZ4czOoqme

"it does not have the Touch Bar, which may please some new Mac buyers who find it unnecessary."

Yes!

"essentially a modern MacBook Pro in the standard Air design…"

YES!!

"…with the same third-generation laptop keyboard with butterfly mechanism"

*Puts away wallet* Yeah, no. https://t.co/B0cVfR9ZxC

I count 22 “memory corruption” and 3 “overflow”. Memory safe languages can’t become widespread fast enough.

If you work with multiple versions of Xcode then this Automator “app” droplet should be very useful.

xed opens the version of Xcode that has been chosen via xcode-select -s.

I keep this in my dock instead of N Xcodes…

Multiple people are telling me that only the 1TB iPad Pros get 6GB RAM. … So that's a thing.

6GB of RAM is a *lot* of future-proofing for these iPads. It's 50% more than before, which was already nowhere near saturated by the apps we use

The new iPad Pros both have 6GB of RAM, according to Xcode (technically the kCoreThemeMemoryClass enum doesn't map 1:1 but CoreUI only knows about 6GB devices so the iPad must be 6GB if not any prior value) pic.twitter.com/Oas1nOM5BM

Apple's specs page is less confident that the new iPad Pros can output 5K than the marketing press release & John Ternus. Do they mean 4K upscaled to 5K displays? 🤔
