my favorite stupid thing about 2019 twitter is that you can't post GIFs.

No, really, you can't: Animated GIFs are transcoded to mp4 when you post them, and non-animated GIFs fail to upload.
Presumably because it's trying to convert them to mp4. pic.twitter.com/Pl43g512V1

My main problem right now is the absence of many Mac interface patterns. There is no native outline view or popover control. While I think, that these controls should also be available on iOS, I’m not sure, they would work great on a phone.

“We (developers) were making it loud and clear that this stuff was very, very broken. And, somehow, someone at Apple made the call that it was OK to release a public beta onto the world. One that also puts their data in jeopardy.” https://t.co/DjNAMmaQ3z

Nobody can do 4 major OS updates every year. Apple can't do it. 3rd party developers can't do it. Users can't do it. The whole situation has become a disaster for everybody, and everybody is getting fed up... except for Apple leadership, it seems.

By Tim Cook’s logic the Messages app should be removed too. I’m sure there’s plenty of evidence of illegal activity targeting individuals that happened (and continues to happen) on the Messages app.

TIL that Sidecar (iPad as external monitor) in macOS Catalina only works if you have an Apple Pencil. I mean, it works without one, but you can't "click" (ie tap) on any control with your finger, it has to be the pencil 🤦‍♀️

Remember what happened when Apple went from 1 operating system to 2: it was extremely difficult, and Leopard ended up being delayed by almost a year.

There are straightforward reasons why Apple quality was better — not perfect, but better — in the past:

1. They had 1 operating system, not 4.
2. They didn't release major OS updates every year on a fixed schedule.
3. They had a CEO who cared about the user experience.

If Apple wants to make an iOS two-in-one I'll buy it day one. In the meantime I've made my own iOS two-in-one. And stopped using my MacBook Air. https://t.co/hSJgTAqaux

Photoshop CS6 is a 64-bit executable…but a bunch of associated helper apps are 32-bit.

Has anyone actually tried to run Photoshop CS6 on Catalina? Does it even launch successfully? If so, is it usable?

There are two fantastic small changes in iOS 13.2 beta 2:

- You can delete apps from the Home screen long-press menu
- You change video settings inside the Camera app (finally, @MKBHD) pic.twitter.com/uRfabMl5Rs

As the developer and @charlesmok, a Hong Kong legislator, have pointed out, the app aggregates reports from Telegram, Facebook and other sources. It beggars belief that a campaign to target individual officers would use a world-readable crowdsourcing format like this.

A lot of the cautionary advice about upgrading to Catalina conflates the risk of installing the new version of macOS with the risk of relying on unmaintained 32-bit apps. Not doing the former doesn't eliminate the risk of the later.

Puzzle for RE geniuses - capture a Swift string escape (eg \(arbitrary expression)).

[\\(]+(?:[^()]++|(?R))*+\)

is super close but matches (foo) which is wrong. Can’t recurse a group which would be the fix.

Thoughts other than “write a parser” (which I did)?

I would love an RSS client that surfaced stories from the many feeds I follow based on my past behavior in the reader. I don’t want things outside my feeds suggested to me, just a prioritization of what I already follow based on how I use RSS.

Every now and then I think I can justify an iMac Pro to myself because it could reduce the amount of time I spend waiting and thus getting distracted. 😇
