Nooooooo…. Please use “y”, not “yyyy”.

“yyyy” zero-pads years that aren’t four digits, and there are multiple calendars w/ 2 or 3-digits years (Japanese, Chinese, republic of china)

“y” is the natural length of the year. “30” for Japanese cal, “2018” for Gregorian, etc

I’ve gotten to the point where I consider identifying bicycles on reCaptchas so insulting and such a waste of time that I’m considering blacklisting any site that uses them.

I am not your ML training monkey.

VIM ruined me as a Mac user. I used to pride myself at pursuing the very best artisan software, and so was actively attracted to the Mac. Now that I have learned to do most tasks with open source software I can't find many reasons to prefer the Mac over other platforms.

Photoanalysisd is using over 77 GBs of memory.
I only have 1,424 photos. My Photo Library is 6.87 GBs in size. I don’t know what my iMac is doing, but I can’t imagine doing it on a spinning hard drive.

Photoanalysisd has been analyzing my photo library of 1,424 photos hard for a week now without sleep.

At this rate my child’s face and all the pictures I took at the zoo 5 years ago should be expressed in an algorithm.

I really loved this @stacktracepod conversation about iPad vs. Mac from my pals @_inside and @johnsundell, joined by my best frenemy-from-up-north @reneritchie.

Really insightful discussion about, among other things, expectations and momentum.https://t.co/ITDMobUf7F

I don’t mean to make light of Frederico’s situation, but the first thing I learned about doing work on computers is have a backup and iCloud is not a backup. I hope this gets resolved soon, but what is a regular user without a high traffic Twitter account going to do? https://t.co/K8Yax2BYMD

Yesterday I finally had the opportunity to handle the new iPad Pros. What struck me is that, compared to the older generation/design, these new machines have no heft. They have a lightness that makes them feel like mockups. I’m not saying it’s bad, just… weird, at first.

More updates about my iCloud issues:

All my text replacements are now gone, replaced by ‘On my way!’ duplicates. I have no idea what is going on.

Sigh.

I’m not sure why they don’t trigger fallback based on linked SDK instead of these runtime checks. I believe that’s what iOS does nowadays. Perhaps this technology just wasn’t there yet. I know NSSearchField also draws differently based on wether drawRect: was overridden.

This is the type of stuff that happens all the time in AppKit. As the macOS UI evolved a myriad of checks were employed to provide fallback behavior when the framework “thinks” you have customized something. Simply overriding drawRect: and calling super will trigger the fallback. https://t.co/zRSrFvwV8I
