Part of Objective-C's beauty was that it was simple. One used to be able to easily learn the language, read others' code, and thus debug others' code.

There's no feature in a language of higher priority than this... definitely not performance.

Counter-counter argument: this is needed rarely, and much more rarely than many will think it is needed.

In my experience, most developers jump at the opportunity for "performance" even when premature, not measured, and probably not going to be effective.

“Google, which pledged to add an end-to-end encryption option for Gmail users several years ago, has not made this the default option for email.” https://t.co/xLnTGTWrYs. Were they secretly forbidden from doing this?

Realmac Software turned 17 years old today. It’s been a crazy journey. There’s been highs, and there’s been lows. I never set out to build a business, it just kind of happened and kept going. Sure, I made plenty of mistakes along the way, but I wouldn’t change a thing. Cheers 🍻

So many software companies are stuck on a ticket treadmill working a never-ending backlog. When those companies look at Basecamp, they think, "this can't work for software development?!", because it's not a ticket feeder. Heads explode when I tell them we do everything in BC...

There are parts of the cloud that make straight economic sense for us, like file storage, but there are still areas of our setup that just don't add up. Like big beefy database servers. They're possible in the cloud, just redonkulously expensive. You gotta ask WHY on cloud.

I wasn't aware this had made it out of the sausage factory yet. I think generally the right answer when "every cycle counts", per principle of least surprise, is to use C functions e.g.:

static fast(MyClass *__unsafe_unretained self) { … }

But everything has a use case.

This deserves a "finally". @brentdax implemented a switch to make Swift #file strings include only the base name of the file https://t.co/Fjzqf1Q5Sv

Responding to app reviews works sometimes... Converted a 1* to 4*. Now if I could only get users to contact support instead of leaving a review in the first place, that would be gold. pic.twitter.com/bXwIPpZpOB

big credit to @leahfinnegan and @outline for commissioning and running it when apple has so many people gaslighting themselves so badly every day

.@gruber asked me if i thought macbook keyboards would have been fixed sooner if i’d written my keyboard story for a bigger, more significant outlet. i don’t think it could have ever happened that way because no publication would have risked stepping out on apple like that :)

apple finally caved on the macbook butterfly keyboards; time to re-appraise what it takes to get this company to admit even a glaringly obvious mistake https://t.co/biGTZF3sfx

Not sure—maybe all at once. The issue isn’t deleting them. It’s that the app won’t even load the list of videos (that have already been downloaded) if there’s no network connection.

New FAQ entry: Why doesn't Witch launch at login in macOS Catalina?

tl;dr answer: If Witch was installed for all users, it won't run at login due to a pref pane issue in Catalina. Reinstall for the current user only.https://t.co/HhdNSH9v1B

The 2 main reasons I haven't updated to iOS 13 yet are background apps and Mail issues.

Are those things really fixed 4 realz in 13.2.3?
