A long time ago— like 15 years ago— I worked at Sun Microsystems. The company was nearly dead at the time (it died a couple years later) because they didn't make anything that anyone wanted to buy anymore. So they had a lot of strange ideas about how they'd make their comeback.

Am I the only one who wishes I could add a Toolbar button to Apple https://t.co/xQnhDeKHh6 to download all images rather than it being a button in the header area that disappears if I scroll down? Sometimes I’m partway down a message before I decide I want to load remote images.

That one was annoying. https://t.co/cgfgULKNRA

The only teams building good personal finance software are those who bundle that software with banking/investment products. There is no good model for a la carte software in this area. https://t.co/pnZf1w9xpj

I have to say, I find it amusing when people ask whether the SuperDuper v3.3 beta is “safe”.

These are people who installed Catalina.

SuperDuper v3.3 (beta) works better than Catalina (current production) does… :-)https://t.co/2mDlY6LUfu

The entire pitch for Stadia is bizarre.

Google: "Everyone has access to unlimited cheap bandwidth, and no one can afford processing power!"
Us: "WTF world do you live in? We're all paying cable monopolies $300/mo for throttled data caps and have supercomputers in our pockets." https://t.co/laOeY44dXW

Of course as a Cocoa developer you'll discover that a nib is not what you thought... and there are so many amazing variations to try out.

I mounted a custom Italic nib from https://t.co/xjNuQgTAHn on one of my TWSBI Diamond Mini pens and the result is ... beautiful handwriting!

Just in case you were wondering if anyone still works on Mint. Does anyone have suggestions for a finance tracking app that works as well as Mint once used to? pic.twitter.com/qd1I2N9qNB

This isn't a pricing pressure problem - most of the content I sell isn't even available in iBooks or Kindle. It's that publishers are unwilling to accept an arrangement where they get less than 70% of the list price.

I've watched several devs quit in last 18 months. Weakening demand for macOS apps, zero discoverability on App Store, perpetual beta OS releases (breaking apps). New "Security" hoops. For 3 weekends in a row, had problems shipping coz of Notarization (works mon-fri, 9~5).

So what I really want is this great keyboard (it's even better than the Surface Laptop 3 one I really liked a while back!), but in a 12-13" form factor. But that just makes me pissed that I ALREADY HAVE A 13" MBP, it's just broken because of that shitty butterfly keyboard.

My main complaint about this MacBook is just how damn big it is! 16" is probably great for video producers, graphic artists, maybe musicians too, but for a software developer, it's an odd size. Not big enough to layout editor + terminal/browser, so space barely better than 13".

It's not quite as good as the freestanding Magic Keyboard, but it's really close. I don't even mind the Touch Bar, now that we have a dedicated ESC button and a dedicated fingerprint sensor. The slight annoyance changing brightness/volume is almost offset by the emoji bar 😄

I've been typing on the new 16" MacBook Pro for a few days, and the sense of relief is intense. The relief that Apple, as stubborn and arrogant as they were for four years, would finally admit to the failure of the butterfly design. And they did. THE NEW KEYBOARD IS GOOD!

What is it with Apple losing random preferences? Time and time again I notice some setting that got reverted by an update. Doesn't matter how "minor" the setting is, this is a form of data loss. And each time, the bug is weirdly specific -- why weren't *all* my settings lost?

I don’t really expect to support the new APIs for Editorial, but the built-in Shortcuts actions can easily be replicated with URL schemes, in case anyone even still needs them.

PSA: The built-in Shortcuts integration for Pythonista will be removed early next year. I‘m working on integrating the new iOS 13 APIs, and I hope to have it ready by the end of the year. Migration might be automatic, but I‘m not sure about that yet.

The Music App seems to be unable to remember the repeat setting. Everyday at some point it will revert back to no repeat.

How can you mess up a such simple thing?

I wonder how long Apple's MacBook Pro development pipeline is. Was the new keyboard already in development when they did the membrane fix last year? Is it worrisome that it took Apple so long to fix the keyboards? Especially in since it's an existing mechanism they already had?
