Machine learning is a bit like cocaine in the 1880s:

- been used in a weaker form for centuries
- some surprisingly successful early applications led to it now being over-prescribed
- beginning to understand that performance degrades after repeated use, negative feedback loops

You don't have to buy the Dongletown Butterflies "Inverted Tee" shirt if you don't want to, but please don't miss the description on this page. Sorry not sorry.https://t.co/hKSv01uJbg

“I don’t know any of the terms and details of what you signed but let me lecture you on what you did wrong” The Thread

This could be great. It could be terrible. Not all VC money is created equal and without more details people are making wild assumptions. Shrug 🤷‍♂️ https://t.co/sdTRy8gkcQ

200,000 subscribers, wow, that's a disaster for a company with a user base of over a billion!

I wonder if bundling News+ with other services is just a soft cancel, a way of avoiding the embarrassment of discontinuing it entirely. https://t.co/dJIgUFEC73

Exactly. And in the next paragraph the VC says growth is great already.

I was just thinking I wish a search engine that crawls the web and knows everything about billions of people could offer me a checking account. https://t.co/c02mG7B75k

Agree with most points. E.g. Touchbar is not bad to me, but no reason it has to annoy everyone. Could be a lot better with haptics, with more configuration.

Yes, an option with no touch bar would be better indeed. Also an OS which wasn’t as crippled as Alcatraz is. Still, it’s a step in the right direction… https://t.co/sVrRLfYSwe

How to keep https://t.co/Fj1lCT9YbD mail popouts open: paste this code into the dev console

window.onbeforeunload = function() {
return "Don't close meeeeee";
}

I HATE that it auto-signs you out after like 15 minutes...

Hearing all my Mac-using friends complain about the missing ESC key on a $6000 laptop reminds me of the fact that we didn't even have a key for the number 1 on the earliest keyboards pic.twitter.com/6ObzR0m81i

Proposal on the table: do a Feed protocol, and rename the current Feed type to WebFeed.

Means touching a lot of code! But we have the luxury of doing things right.

What do you think?

Good god, I love Swift but my 6 minute cold build time for Apollo on a quad core 15” from 2016 is painful in comparison to this.

Super curious how it compares to “the best laptop ever made” (15″ 2015). Can you by any chance run this test on that laptop too? (Not sure if you still own one.)

Some 16” MBP Overcast-build testing with Turbo Boost disabled (with Turbo Boost Switcher Pro), which is great if you’re willing to give up a good chunk of peak performance in exchange for much less heat, noise, and battery drain: pic.twitter.com/LsDc5ycukR

Interesting (and sobering!) that those people were only available to you when included with the money. That seems like a tough call. Please keep us all posted with how it goes! (And please note, I don’t know beans about this stuff, so thanks for answering my questions!!)
