A reminder that few/no rules of subscription and membership strategy shown by national/global media apply to anyone else.

In the US, the average age of kids getting phones is now... 8.

No joke here, just wanted the share that fascinating stat. Wow.

Come work at Apple! We’re hiring someone to lead our Core Technology Services team in Developer Relations. Help make the lives of developers who file bugs a little bit better. https://t.co/ZRiSsXUaO7

MSFT has recently released:

full vulnerability details on bugs (that they found!),

a decent Linux subsystem,

the best/most uniform security hygiene in dev/compile/build of the major OSes (Windows 10),

and now tease an awesome CLI?

I don’t think I survived that tumor... https://t.co/eE674GDErl

Basically, if screenshots are going to continue to be the default format for platform-neutral text snippet interchange - as it seems they are - then we ought to try harder to keep the underlying text intact.

As a bonus, it would also make screenshots indexable, and also enable translation apps (like mine!) to easily provide translations for text in screenshots, again all without relying on OCR.

So many problems in macOS. They just don't care. Every single bug I took the time to carefully document and report via Radar was ignored ... for years. Enough. I'm done. I left in 2016. Just leave already, everyone else did. There is literally nobody left except casuals.

Basically I think Apple should use the data they already have to embed digital text in screenshot images, thus making them potentially accessible to screen readers without using unreliable OCR.

Nope, it just means that now, there is a real competition to macos on the dev side.

A lot of people including myself are on macos because of its UNIX subsystem. It's the best platform for all open source / programming language.

This could change soon. https://t.co/7tJvWk92MP

If Windows + Linux is going to provide a good UX for all devs, Mac hardware is pretty much dead.

Microsoft is making great progress at attacking macos exactly where it hurts: development.

We are really not far from seeing how Tim Apple miss management is going to kill a lot of Apple's value for good. https://t.co/LPd6cGxOVG

Seriously though, carefully choosing the top item on your list is a great tool for doing do *everything else on your list* first.

These are worth a read. The online essay made me laugh, the book actually made me think quite a bit.https://t.co/1cQBqROWWKhttps://t.co/d4gCVTABrK https://t.co/E53q1XP1xq

I would rather work for @Microsoft than @apple at this point. As an app developer, Apple is a no-brainier, but MS are just so much more developer friendly/interesting now. https://t.co/7VO4voFh9E

Already experienced a version of this with OCR, which while being great for sales is also inherently unreliable + dragged my reviews way down versus what they'd be otherwise. (not that 4.6 on Android / 4.8 on iOS is bad, but they'd be 4.9 without OCR)

This is good, but also one of the reasons I've resisted calls to add push notification features (e.g. flashcard reminder) - a notification spam apocalypse is coming and I don't want to put myself in a position where people accidentally turn on a feature and then punish me for it. https://t.co/iJcXzCscgX

Nice observation by @DaneCJorgensen :

With StopTheNews https://t.co/ib5Pxjws4J installed you can also copy or drag links to Safari from the Stocks app, because Stocks also uses https://t.co/fhMVchw3xk URLs!

(I've never used Stocks app, because I'm a poor indie dev.)

A fellow dev just had his app approved; Apple had rejected it for being able to print, yup you read that correctly. No explaination or reasoning given, but after fighting they caved. Got any ideas what might be the reasoning?
