For a lifelong Rule Follower, buying something with your phone at the Apple Store combines the thrill of pretending you’re shoplifting with the comfort of knowing you can indignantly flash an email receipt if someone stops you

It's almost like a vendor being able to arbitrarily change the monthly price of software you depend on might make app subscriptions a bad idea for consumers.

I’d be less upset if the Post-PC era was actually more capable than the PC.

Instead it turned out everyone decided we were ‘post-PC’ and wanted to deprecate the PC to achieve it, instead of actually improving the post-PC devices enough to kill the PC naturally.

iOS is not for people that work or think fast. Everything is slow. If you can't take your time and appreciate the beautiful animations Jony Ive has blessed you with, maybe you're looking for a Chromebook. Hey, at least you can write iOS apps on one.

I’ve been typing Cmd-Space and immediately beginning to type for like 17, 18 years with LaunchBar on the Mac. It never ever misses what I type. That the iPad requires you to pause before typing is insane and makes me think the engineers who wrote the feature don’t even use it.

Who would have thought that it would be craftsmen that would be most upset by the ‘ongoing destruction of the tools their livelihoods depend on’

Funny, when we lost Jobs and Forstall I figured it was the iPad that was doomed, because everybody left were the 'Mac people'. Two sides to every story, huh? 😂

When the legendary Don Norman sends you an unsolicited quote for your book you use it. (Seriously though, I freaked the fuck out this morning. Don’s Design of Everyday Things is canon. Such a kind thing for him to do.) https://t.co/PL79GRp7b1 pic.twitter.com/MRLwV2jA2N

And I’m kind of unsure that leadership at Apple understands what’s great and important about Macs that we should not lose.

Evolve, change, yes — but not become a supercomputer with its arms tied behinds its back. That’s what I worry about it.

I find using a keyboard with iOS really exposes how slow some of the animations are, which I think is the issue here? It's almost unusable to me, constantly feeling bottlenecked by things fading and sliding.

Yup. And it is heart breaking. Even worst: Apple's silence, lack of clear action that would create some hope among us.

And it’s worse than just the hardware reputation. The fun of waiting 7 days for a simple repair to your work tool because Apple‘s repair pipeline is completely overloaded adds to the already deeply mediocre service reputation Apple has.

Adobe being scummy to LR users: dynamic price test. https://t.co/2oKoLHev3a. Why we all hate Adobe. Which is where Apple exiled their Aperture users. Without a viable conversion strategy. So photo geeks kinda hate Apple too.

If you take a year out of iOS development work to work on a Mac app, there are a dozen new frameworks and hundreds of new APIs to catch up on when you get back. Mac developers are not accustomed to this kind of churn, so it's easy to say 'just learn AppKit'

Apple developers were different people back in 2000. The people referenced in this tweet are wildly outnumbered by young developers that dont know or care what a Mac-like experience is. https://t.co/akioMSix3y

I think the repairability (and increased longevity of hardware) should be part of report on environment.

Apple should not fear their computers lasting a long time. People will upgrade BECAUSE OF THAT REASON.

In most cases, I’ve always handed down old computers when upgrading.

“Put Away” is one of the features I miss the most from the Finder in Classic Mac OS. If you dragged an icon from a folder onto the desktop to work with it, you could choose File → Put Away to return the icon to its folder. So nice. Thank you computer!

It is a conscious design choice to solder on RAM, SSD, make everything difficult to access, replace, glue everything together, etc.

It is possible to design great hardware that is upgradeable, repairable.

Apple could be a leader in this very green effort.
