So excited to see this finally out - we’ve been working super hard on it. It isn’t every day you add a new input method. Excited to see what y’all think 🤗. https://t.co/C87LHRn52l

Two 27-inch monitors is my reason for not using an iPad for much. :-) Once iPadOS can do big screens for more workspace and proper ergonomics, I’m in.

Apple: The finger is the only pointer you need.
Apple: Ok I guess you need a keyboard too
Apple: Fine here we'll give your stylus back
Apple: I give up just take your stupid trackpad

Catalyst devs! Apple appears to have changed UIDevice's systemVersion and NSProcessInfo's operationSystemVersion to now return the macOS version, but we need a mechanism to determine the `iOS` version.

Is there a way to get that? sysctl doesn't seem to have anything either.

One thing I don’t believe trackpad support on iPadOS has is mouse capture & relative movement, without which you won’t see any e.g. first-person games using the mouse. The SDK isn’t out yet, so can’t confirm for sure, but it looks like we’ll have to petition for that enhancement

Web Developers: The latest iOS 13.4 beta brings desktop-class pointer and mouse event support to Safari and WebKit on iPadOS! For best results, adopt Pointer events, and ensure that your web content does not /depend/ on touch events (which a trackpad or mouse will not send).

The 10th gen desktop CPUs are coming ‘any day now’. They could have waited if they had any intention of updating them soon.

I can confirm that iOS’ new trackpad support *doesn’t* let you move the mouse cursor to an external display, even in apps that support spanning to external displays. Main screen only

Apple does not sell a computer in which the factory-provided storage is upgradeable in the field.

I have a feeling the weird cursor-morphing for toolbars with iPadOS’ trackpad support won’t be here for long. It’s as jarring as you think it might be, and adds very little to the experience

Soldered storage is still the biggest speed bump for me to buying a mini. I’ll probably still suck it up and get one though.

The base storage is 2x what it was before, but there is no upgrading of the internal SSD. The rest of the specs are unchanged.

Is it odd to anyone else that the iPqd is the first device to get rear LiDAR? The iPad is getting more common in AR. But the phone is still the dominant device.

Maybe Apple didn’t want to wait another year for another iPad rev.

The big question that Apple has to address is how to restore the iPad as an economically viable platform for devs after having destroyed that rationale with their universal app master stroke a few years ago.

The problem is that for the vast majority of devs, there is no economic rationale to develop specific functionality for the iPad and great trackpad support will need a lot of work. For a universal app that goes for $0.99 nothing makes economic sense.

the new ipad pro looks like a laptop. i am officially call BS on the ARM based macs. apple strategy is clear: ios is the future. macs are trucks.

Xcode on iOS is coming. The new ipad pro convinces me of that.

ARM-based macs rumors are a distraction.
