So, to avoid that happening, Apple made a rule that if you used the App Store, you couldn’t move transactions completely out of it. Or, rather, they would stop what they could — the linking out.

So, absent IAP, we’re left with the disconnection of both.

4/4

The fact that this stuff exists on the iOS and Mac App Stores really makes you wonder what the point of app review is anyway. https://t.co/VCHAGRR77B

I told her to hold down the Option key and click the green button at the top left of the Safari window and that solved it. Not holding Option would have basically confused her for life in full screen mode. (Full screen mode is dumb, don’t @ me.)

I think it’s crazy that Apple won’t even let them put a link to subscribe in and I think Spotify pays artists like shit and has a terrible business plan to run on such margins

Yep. Interesting that Apple's biggest competitor – with a significantly larger market share (and much more to lose) – provides developers with both options: the platform IAP system or their own payment backend: https://t.co/gnn4YDMUGd

The reason "undo" is so freaking rare in web apps, is that the almighty frameworks are so busy making async API calls "magical" and getting lost in the Vietnam of Computer Science, that nobody stops to ask if "undo" should be a basic underpinning of every. single. app.

Like I said, there are essentially only two countries, so I don’t think “volunteering” really captures it. This goes way beyond just signing up, e.g. the situation with Kindle.

Perhaps it’s more like a country where the only store is Walmart. Even if you discover the product on a Web site you can’t actually get it except at Walmart. And there’s only one other country that you could move to.

It's a mistake to view Apple's competitors as device manufacturers. That would be like saying Microsoft Windows wasn't a monopoly, because look at how many different Windows boxes you could choose from!

Apple has only one competitor on smartphones: Google.

The OS is everything.

☘️ So now, we're using that magic CSS, and then falling back to the ol' tiling image if your browser doesn't support it. And, uh, that's the whole story of our intense green. Thank u pic.twitter.com/D5frt7SyjD

✅ …but Dean, a wonderful WebKit person, dropped some knowledge. In CSS + Safari you can specify a color with a color space! Check out his CodePen — https://t.co/TdqNpLGybC — that's RGB red/green on the outside, P3 red/green on the inside. (Note: no difference on a sRGB screen!)

The real "30% tax" is the apps and categories of apps we don't and will never have, because they were nope'd from on high as they didn't fit into the App Store box or raised uncomfortable questions re Apple's business models. There is still no Steam Link app on the App Store

Real talk: Apple (+ all the other App Stores) *should* have independent, 3rd-party oversight; I'm sure Spotify would have no trouble finding devs who have battled unjust/capricious rejections & suffered a chilling effect on innovation. Phil Schiller should not be final arbitrator

Apple has designed the App Store so that Apple makes the majority of its cut from a small % of big players, while smaller devs tend to suffer.

This is efficient for Apple if it works. However, it has made Apple vulnerable to a revolt by the big players, as we now see.

AppKit is a lot more powerful than UIKit without being that different, but the documentation hurts on boarding. I think this lets some people use AppKit as a punching bag unjustifiably, but the documentation situation does make a arguing for AppKit harder.
