There are a lot of UIKit devs going "Well the Mac App Store is failing because of the lack of apps!" And that's true, but it's also not understanding why. The Mac App Store doesn't have enough apps because of sandboxing. Outside the store there are more than enough apps.

Yeah this one is complicated. Either Marzipan apps fail out, or they depress the whole market and drive everyone out of profitability. I'm kind of betting on the former right now, but you can see why a lot of long time AppKit devs aren't happy. The UIKit ecosystem isn't healthy.

I have but one minor thing to be sad about in iOS 12: iPhone still doesn't get inter-app drag & drop, and that negatively affects iPad and the platform as a whole ☹️ I was really hoping that this year they'd fix that

Us: Mac bugs are piling up, quality is suffering. You need to slow down and just fix them.

Apple: White is now black. 🙃

I feel like the "Advanced Debugging with Xcode and LLDB" actually justified the Touch Bar. Pretty cool hooks in Xcode.

Dear App developers, (tablets, phones)
1) add a "shortcuts" screen to your app
2) add a 'learn' button
3) when you hit 'learn' remember what I do until I press 'stop'
4) add a button to replay what I just did to "shortcut"
5) allow me to change the name of the added button

Problem: a manual CaseIterable implementation risks becoming incorrect as a type evolves. The compiler doesn’t catch this.

Solution: a dummy function whose only purpose is to produce a compile error on (almost) the correct line when a new case is added.

It’s ugly but it works. pic.twitter.com/7CrQ6Y4p27

I’m in the understanding crashes session at WWDC and I’m reminded that it’s 2018 and we still don’t have easy to read crash logs with full stack traces like languages such as Java had decades ago.

I get why, but I’m still sad about it 😢

Just in case you're curious, here are the new classes of UIKit only available on the desktop — just as the keynote said: menus, toolbars, Touch Bar, scroll bars, mouseover/hover, three-finger-tap lookup, contextual menus, and source-list sidebars pic.twitter.com/be4B3mgbYh

Just looked up "donate" in https://t.co/Uzz8GxgsCh, trying and failing to find some obscure alternate definition that makes the Siri activity API usage of the word make semantic sense.

Conjecture: iPad Pro ultimately failed at turning iPad into a general purpose productivity device, and Marzipan is the pivot.

In the Intro to Dark Mode video they talk about changes they made to help our eyes detect window borders in Dark Mode. To me those changes were too subtle. I suspect it's a fine line to walk -- if there's *too much* line contrast everywhere that would be visually confusing too.
