Apple’s making this common mistake where they’re like, “Oh boy, we created something amazing with help from a huge community working together — now we should add our own private surprise stuff because surely we know better than everyone else in the whole world combined.”

I just got my iOS 13 first background location shaming alert ... for the Apple Store app. The map showed dots of where I had been over the last few days. pic.twitter.com/gjzhBIBqb9

iPadOS let’s you delete apps from the update list, before or after an update is completed. This has been on the wishlist for years. pic.twitter.com/G7WMFjDauN

Oh boy, even more weak IBOutlets. Last time it was from the Networking folks so thought they just didn’t know better. This one is about Xcode Previews; how do UI folks not know their own best practices?

Fun fact: "Catalyst" (the release name for Apple's "Marzipan") was the original codename for React Native.

In both cases, I preferred the codename.

And then there's the dub-dub crunch culture, which sounds *super* fun, especially for people with kids 🙄

A well-publicised example that doesn't require any backstory is that for most (especially those on the really exciting projects) joining Apple means giving up all side projects, social media presence, etc and signing NDAs so tight you can't even tell your colleagues what you do.

1 year ago today I left Apple. I miss some friends. But I had an awesome 12 months with more independence.

If your iOS app has a private entitlement (such as CarPlay), the developer portal can’t currently generate a working macOS provisioning profile for building it with Catalyst.

Confirmed with labs, filed as bug FB6126707. Workaround: start Catalyst work without that entitlement. pic.twitter.com/7WkajutrYe

To use the Mac interface idiom, Podcasts needs a private entitlement. Is this something we devs will only get in Year 4 of Marzipan? This is the kind of thing I'd expect to see if there were bigger UIKit Mac visual changes down the road & Apple's happy w/ 'good enough' until then pic.twitter.com/aoo2Ur2I6I

Podcasts has custom AppKit-alike appearances for segmented controls, volume slider and its toolbar. These are the kinds of things you'll probably want to do in your own Catalyst apps pic.twitter.com/0elCezeNXE

Ha! The Podcasts app on macOS Catalina, which is built with UIKit, overrides the default Catalyst scale factor and uses 1.0 instead of 0.77 😐

I think the number of PCIe slots on the new Mac Pro is an acknowledgement that everything these days is PCIe. You only buy SATA SSDs if you’re putting them in a legacy system. Otherwise you are buying M.2 SSDs and throwing them in a PCIe slot.

Bizarrely, you can QuickLook .iso files on iOS 13 to see their contents, despite not being able to mount them as a volume 🤔

Whether you pronounce the Combine framework’s name as a verb or a noun depends on what effect you think it’ll have on your coding practices.
