Another one for the 'falsehoods programmers believe' list: "Every day there is exactly 1 sunrise and 1 sunset."

Current behavior of receiving a call in the Apple ecosystem:

1. Current process is taken over by call on iPhone *and Mac*
2. Mac states you have a missed call on your iPhone despite it still ringing
3. YouTube in the browser is unpaused

All these things happen *simultaneously*

What worries me about Ive leaving Apple is that somebody will feel the pressure to show “we can do it without him” and release something shiny and innovative but not well thought out.

Number of times I’ve mistakenly opened Podcasts on Catalina instead of Feedback Assistant because it’s also a violet circle += 1 😑

I wish the Dark Mode toggle on iOS 13 was top-level in the Control Center. It feels important enough not to just be buried in the long-press menu for the Brightness slider.

@marcoarment re your discussion of point resolution on Retina vs. Non Retina:

11” Air: 1366x768
13” Air: 1440x900
13” non-Retina Pro: 1280x800
15” non-Retina Pro: 1440x900 OR 1680x1050 (1050p was always a BTO option)

13” Retina: 1280x800x2
15” Retina: 1440x900x2

Sabih Khan is now basically "the operations guy" at Apple. Jeff Williams, in turn, basically became "the products guy" and now oversees design. It’s been debated a lot that he might be the first candidate for the CEO role if/when Cook leaves, and it’s even more obvious now.

I always found it weird how Jony and Tim always looked like they were discussing the product for the first time at the launch demos.

I've been thinking about this a bit more. On macOS (and lesser so on iOS 13) you can no longer design pixel perfect UI. On @elementary you still can, that is key to an enjoyable experience.

My suspicion is Ive didn't anticipate leadership would go so south under Cook, got himself into obligations that were reneged on from his partners in leadership, and then everyone agreed he didn't need to fulfill his role, but his arm was twisted that he simply needed to stay.

Yeah, I get that he wanted out a long time ago and was guilted/pressured into this “transition.” But doesn’t the design buck still stop at the CDO? Part of the job is getting the credit and the blame.

If the plan was that Ive was not going to be involved but was going to present to the world that he was in charge of everything, isn’t that on both of them?

No. That is just when they officially announced he was diminishing his involvement. Which they most certainly would have delayed announcing at all costs.

Stop passing the buck. This is on Tim.https://t.co/DI8UTN3XRR

“I’m one of those people who just use whatever’s on the system.”

And this is why, as I’ve said elsewhere, the @MacHomebrew folks need to get their big pants on and make themselves THE reliable, trusted source for ALL CLI tools on macOS, pronto.

If you assume a 2-3 year lag between when projects are designed v. revealed, Ive stepping back in 2014 would mean all the 2018-2019 products were started after he reduced involvement.

iPhone X / XS / XR, iPad Pro, iMac Pro, new Mac mini, new MacBook Air, Mac Pro.

Good stuff.

I think the point OP is trying to make is that if Ive "checked out" 4 years ago like many have now claimed, you can't blame Ive for any of the product designs post Apple Watch (2014). If you do, that means he didn't "check out". Can't have both.

Another new thing in SuperDuper! 3.2.5 - one-click entry of registration information from the receipt that appears onscreen and via email.

It’s not magic— it’s just a URL scheme—but it’s clear, very convenient for users, and generates fewer support requests to boot. pic.twitter.com/8vb6zhVzFc
