There is actually another Jony Ive-inspired design fail shown: the style-over-substance strain relief which guarantees that the cable will fail just at that point, sooner or later.

What would be insanely great is the ability to ⌥-Click a language keyword (@propertyWrapper, for example) to pull up a quick explanation of what it does with a link to a corresponding section in TSPL.

I think that alone would do wonders for newcomers to the language.

One comment:

The recent remarks by Craig throwing the designers under the bus for Catalyst apps take on a whole new light now.

I think that’s unlikely.

This seems like the last step in a gradual process of Ive stepping away over the last few years, most likely due to a combination of extreme burnout and a desire to tackle different kinds of design work than what Apple would have any reason to make. https://t.co/AtCuJrJoSP

What worries me isn’t that Jony left; it’s that no one filled his role.

Design has been rolled up into Operations. That’s worrisome.

The fact that Apple hasn’t even tried to make its top designers into public figures (Alan Dye & Evans Hankey) indicates low priority from Apple.

I have little doubt that Tim single-handledly destroyed the culture and organisational structure that set Apple apart from the other tech giants. He didn't single-handedly make all the bad design decisions though.

When I was quitfired from a job once, it was positioned as a “transition to a consultant”.

And it was the nicest job transition I’ve ever had. They were great to me and paid me for months.

But how much do you think I was consulted on after one week?

If Ive is implying that he didn’t have the tools or space necessary to be creative, then I dont What he’s been smoking.
On the other hand if it means that the secrecy and not showing progress work to anyone outside the team or Cook is what made him feel like he didn’t have....

It's revealing that Jony felt comfortable saying this about his time working under @tim_cook.

Jony feels he didn't have "the space, tools or infrastructure" to do good design under Tim. pic.twitter.com/JIQFuwHBC8

I can't really decide if Jonny Ive leaving Apple is a good thing or not. I think Apple's design leadership has been on a downward slope for some time, but it's hard to guess if Ive was the cause of that, or if he's leaving in order to escape from the cause.

For reference on why I’m not surprised by the Ive news: I wrote this back in 2015. Took longer than I expected, but the signs have been there for some time. https://t.co/sJNphuKkd4

Why would a COO oversee a design team?

Because they've been making unreliable, un-manufacturable, form-over-function designs.

Jony leaving does not bode well for Apple Glasses or Apple Car. He would stay for those if they were amazing/soon-ish.
