Do you really think the Mac is a dying platform?

Nice — on the new Pages, you can carry a text gradient fill through each paragraph separately or the entire page. Oddly, the iOS apps don’t support more than 2-stop colours in the gradient. “Advanced Gradient Fill” is Mac only. pic.twitter.com/FJZZk3NnCx

One of the first things I guessed was missing from SwiftUI was the ability to, like, scroll a certain view to visible. Which is required ALL OVER.

The Macintosh had a 26 year head start, but you think after 9 years the iPad would have a couple killer apps to differentiate itself by.

Did sandboxing kill app innovation, or was it the lackluster App Store economy? Maybe a tablet sized iPhone isn’t that appealing after all?

Off the top of my head:

- Shortcuts
- Working Copy
- Textastic
- Kodex
- Apollo
- Scriptable
- Jayson
- Timery
- Darkroom
- Ferrite
- Pythonista
- LookUp

I'm aware of alternatives for Mac. I don't want alternatives – I just want my favorite iPad apps to arrive on the Mac.

My mind works that way too — but I wonder if that’s just my bias/perspective. Not getting many answers though.

But I can certainly think of many Mac productivity apps I would like to see on the iPad.

It doesn't matter whether Apple officially deprecates a technology if the developer community considers the technology to be deprecated. If the majority of developers start to shun a technology, especially to a degree that affects hiring, then it's deprecated.

I’m not coming up with any answers to this question, but maybe it’s because I just don’t enough iPad productivity apps. https://t.co/wMzFeH8dCN

And SwiftUI tries to accommodate that! It should be even easier to gradually adopt SwiftUI in a Kit app than Swift into an ObjC app

What are the iPad productivity apps that you hope come to the Mac (via Catalyst or other means)?

Ever since @Amazon took over their own shipping, service from them on that end has gone downhill. I got an email today that Amazon’s delivery driver was unable to find a delivery location that packages ordered from Amazon have been going to for two ... https://t.co/pYPfmL1jyn

I'm not going as far to say "all AppKit/UIKit is legacy." Those APIs will still be with us for a while, especially for interop. But I also just don't see a future where those environments, including Catalyst, outlast SwiftUI.

I think SwiftUI is going to enter a feedback loop where eventually new API will be SwiftUI only, and they'll improve SwiftUI because it's the only path forward for new API. It seems like it's going to be an inescapable pull.
