Swift tip: If you explicitly define the type of the first element in a collection, you can skip the type on the following elements. Works great for enums and static option sets. pic.twitter.com/qOMeFr5TF0

Dropbox iOS app on iOS 6 versus iOS 12. Notice how space is much better utilised on the 3.5-inch (!) iPod display than on the 4.7-inch iPhone 8 display. pic.twitter.com/ToBFXPPyQG

(1/4) Learning ML engineering is a long slog even for legendary hackers like @gdb.

IMO, the two hardest parts of ML eng are:

1) Feedback loops are measured in minutes or days in ML (compared to seconds in normal eng)
2) Errors are often silent in ML https://t.co/WKezAVbeVj

LM said something about how the biggest third-party subscription app generated only 0.25% of Apple’s services revenue.

0.25% of $11.455B is well over $28,000,000 in “App Store tax” that one app paid to Apple this quarter.

(If we heard it correctly.)

It's time to retire our custom document browser in favor of using Apple's built-in document browser—and with our iOS 13 updates this fall we'll be doing just that, making it easier than ever for you to choose where you want to keep our apps' documents:https://t.co/3mSnbGT2uS

Apple’s revenues are up only 1% year-over-year, but are more diverse. iPad is 11% of the total now compared to 9% a year ago. Mac sales are 10% of the total compared to 9% a year ago.

That said, I did find what looks like a performance bug drawing the ↦ character. It was bad enough that I actually strip it out and just don’t draw it.

(It appears in some headlines in https://t.co/kGfx3QwxGr.)

Another thing I think would help a lot is an "-errors-as-warnings" mode, where you compile the code with type errors anyway, then you can see in the debugger when it traps at the error message what the state is in context

How does this always get through QA? Many of Apple's docs apply formatting to strings when you write something like get-task-allow. And if that's not what is happening they need to fix whatever is because "Get Task Allow" is not "get-task-allow". pic.twitter.com/sGZSasCn2P

WhatsApp end-to-end encryption is over.

There’s in-app infrastructure for filtering and capturing messages pre-encryption and post-decryption which makes the entire point of encryption moot.

Thank you Mark Zuckerberg for fucking up another thing. You are the worst. https://t.co/eEgUmrHi4a

To be fair, RISC is probably one of the worst named concepts in computer science.

John Mashey spent a decade correcting people on Usenet and couldn't stem the tide of people who naively thought that the concept was defined by the name.
