@alanzeino found this gem after running the Swift 5 compiler on our codebase.

Evidently Swift's definition of "immutable" has mutated a bit since 4.2. pic.twitter.com/AMS5XJKWRq

Luca Maestri (“LM”) notes that Apple is now providing net sales and cost of sales separately for products and services, allowing separate margin calculations. This quarter, gross margin on products was 34.3%, and margin on services was 62.8%. Overall margin was 38% (37.991%)

It’s kind of clear in recent years that this list does not include developers, though it’s less clear why it doesn’t. https://t.co/4wkDmo0xr0

Apparently the person who discovered the FaceTime bug was literally told by Apple to 'File A Radar' (they're not devs). Everyone jokes about 'File A Radar' but, honestly, Apple's approach to this is annoyingly tone deaf and needs to be improved already. https://t.co/lPLUBw5cFg

"The payout to Apple by Netflix, the most popular subscription app, has been especially dear.

Last year, Apple received about $258 million in fees from Netflix’s global business, almost double from the prior year, Sensor Tower estimates." https://t.co/ozOe7KKZck

If you only knew how many reported critical vulnerabilities go unfixed for months or more, you wouldn't worry so much about a week. ;-)

For everyone suggesting that I do module imports, there's this:

(lldb) expr @import UIKit
error: while importing modules:
error: Couldn't load top-level module UIKit

Four years ago this tool helped us all. Now it's busted: https://t.co/RYJFX6cydb

Absolutely. How many Xcode engineers are now focused on Swift or Swift-related features/fixes for Xcode who would have been working on productivity improvements? Hard to say, but clearly it’s a large number.

I like Swift, but hate the distraction and degradation it has caused in our tools. It feels like overall developer productivity has taken a huge hit.

I'm old enough to remember when you could debug in Xcode without shitloads of casts. This is fucking ridiculous:

(lldb) p (UIEdgeInsets)[((UIView *)((UIViewController *)((UINavigationController *)self.navigationController).viewControllers.lastObject).view) safeAreaInsets]

Here is the mom’s official bug report to Apple. Note that the mom self-describes as “not at all techy” and was baffled that Apple Support asked her, an average citizen, to sign up for an Apple developer account to then submit an official bug report, in order to be taken seriously pic.twitter.com/PWdrsych5t

But that's not a bug fix, it's disabling the bugged service. Kudos to them for keeping the issue from affecting users, but they also stopped Group FaceTime from being used at all.

(I'm not saying they should have kept it on, just that it doesn't qualify as a fix.)

Yeah, I am actually somewhat serious. It’s very useful to know that something will never be fixed.
