A real “Pro Mode” would disable the ridiculous sandboxing, permission dialogs and restrictions. https://t.co/Nw13BlL65w

When I made the text system for the original iPhone, I made sure it could autocorrect Apple product names, even historical names, and all with the correct capitalization too. I’m glad that’s carried through. The system needs to correct for all the things you want to type. pic.twitter.com/rdU0Hc7jTi

Plaid's business model of screen scraping banks to get personal account information seemed like the dumbest and most insecure idea I had ever heard of. Probably good that I'm not a VC. (I still will never ever use a service that requires them, but congrats on the pay day.) https://t.co/au7SZSU4FK

If you told me that Apple would seriously ship such an interface back in 2010 I would have been offended and called you a fool… pic.twitter.com/RchVZRUANp

For the record, he had told a client “every extra thing we take on, no matter how small, takes time away from bug fixing and polish on the things that we’ve already committed to doing”.

It was the best articulation of that statement I had heard to date.

Or since.

The EU actually passed law that mandated all smartphones ship with micro-USB. Apple and Samsung were given exemptions.https://t.co/V0lLWmD5y9

If you want to use CryptoKit, but your app supports not just iOS13:

- link CryptoKit as weak_framework
- use "if canImport(CryptoKit)" when importing
- use "if #available(iOS 13, *)" when accessing

Props to @backblaze support for helping me debug a tricky problem across several days recently. They’re so affordable it would be easy for Backblaze to skimp out on support, but they stuck with the issue and made the process easy. 💯

watchOS people in Apple:

Want podcast/audiobook apps to get better on watchOS and offer first-class, must-have features like silence skipping and volume leveling?

Expose AVAudioUnitTimePitch as a public API, so we can use AVAudioEngine with speed control.

Apple peeps - Xcode + swiftUI preview is repeatedly SPODing my machine - no chance for spin dumps, can't remote login. Any guidance on how to diagnose so I can feedback it? (so far two hard resets in the last half hour)

Some tech advice!

Having 32gigs of ram lets you have hundreds more browser tabs open before your machine slows to a crawl.

You can then spend much more time tabbing and ⌘-W those tabs. Makes for a great finger and wrist workout!

I wanna non-ironically advocate for the “organic food” of software. A return to the basics of good software, free from all the layers we’ve pretended to have provided more ROI that they really did. You can still use tools and abstractions and libs, but in moderation.

This is such an unexpected bug, I'm hoping someone can confirm before I open a defect. Put this in a trivial SwiftUI project and run it in the simulator. Check Activity Monitor. I believe this leaks ~0.5GB/second. pic.twitter.com/4uuLEKgSFD
