Just got an e-mail from someone who’s been using Secrets for a little over a year just to say they are really happy with it. That’s it. No requests, no ifs, no buts. Just “thanks”.

And damn it, did it feel good…

So YouTube ad biz, which makes $15 billion a year, is:
- 20% the size of Facebook's
- contributes 10% of all Google revenue
- 6x bigger than Twitch
- about 20 percent the size of entire US TV ad spent

And Google bought it for *only* $1.65 billion in 2006 https://t.co/JhtrYd6cEa

I was interviewed on this weeks episode of the Retro Mac Cast podcast (episode 514) about my collection of vintage Apple computers. Have a listen if you’re into that sort of thing.  https://t.co/UppMo4n4z5

So Azure is bigger and growing faster than GCP and Instagram is as big or bigger than YouTube and growing faster. Interesting to see what people make of these numbers.

I’ve started writing functions that “diff” two values to return a nicely formatted description of their differences to use in test failures.

e.g.

let a = M(id: “A”, foo: “bar”)
let b = M(id: “B”, foo: “baz”)
diff(a,b) == “””
• id: “A” != “B”
• foo: “bar” != “baz”
“””

A client of mine upgraded to Catalina (10.15.3) without asking me first, and now I’ve had to spend two hours with her manually recovering and reimporting all the Mail stuff (not just messages, but accounts themselves) that Catalina somehow “forgot” to migrate.

Well done, @apple.

Issue: Catalina's "privacy-protections" can break legit apps (e.g. VMWare screen recording) 😢

Fix: "Inject a dylib that invokes an API requiring Screen Recording Permission & thus triggering the permission modal in the context of VMware Fusion" 🤣😇🙌https://t.co/gdnO2bp2aR https://t.co/fpiQrTSnWC

I’m using the price advertised here: https://t.co/l1TZDkDneU I guess they rounded down and you can’t actually get it for that price?

Clang likely has the same issues as Swift if you compile with -fmodules (which Swift always does when importing C/ObjC code)

I'll generate some results now and report back in a couple of minutes. Looking over my old results, upgrading the machine from 6 cores to 10 actually made builds a little bit (about 10%) slower, I think because the additional work units were offset by the lower clock rate.

For any machine that you are thinking of keeping, I would recommend getting a Samsung 970 Pro NVMe blade and a $15 adapter, along with 20mm heat sinks:https://t.co/ipy26xKERVhttps://t.co/07EYtbQQnJ

Good bang for the buck, especially if you're considering a storage upgrade.
