Got in our @Zipcar we've been driving for 3 days. It doesn't start. Call Zipcar and get told that the car can't access the internet so it won't start. The only option is to have a tow truck come and tow it to somewhere where it has internet.

Something I wish got more weight in design discussions (say, of programming languages) is the tendency for unintended consequences.

“Make this empirically revealed user scenario wonderful” is great, but what was the impact on everything else? Special cases hide surprises.

Possibility:
Apple shipped Marzipan apps in Mojave to gauge public reaction.

They could still cancel the project at this point without harming 3rd party devs, because nobody else is allowed use it yet.

As for broken promises... are you still waiting on Yellow Box for Windows?

Just to give you an idea, an AWS dedicated host (=Hardware) is around 15-20x more expensive than a regular instance (=VM).

The problem is that most of these apps tend to be mostly idle, so in terms of CPU you could pack more VMs, but the memory footprint doesn’t allow it.

No, they sell VMs. The more VMs they can stick on a physical machine, the more profit for them.

This happens to me but not with ads, it was with google search autocomplete. I had for sure never searched for this before and it wasn’t the kind of thing that would normally have high ranking. https://t.co/8b7NX3w2hz

Objective-C isn’t really a language first, it’s an integration technology / middleware with language convenience.

Trying it out is fine. Releasing such an obviously flawed implementation to the public, and lying about it, over the objections of many of the engineers involved is politics pure and simple.

At least it got us clang 😎

Is there a tool that shows the status of App Store propagation? Asking for a friend.

It looks like the app was pulled from the store.

The system works:
1. Apple does nothing to curate.
2. App buyer notices scam.
3. Media notices app buyer.
4. Apple notices media.
5. Profit! https://t.co/cfxuAJriCT

People assuming that paid app with many good ratings has many satisfied users.

I won’t name names but while researching how I can market my apps I found a service that would provide good reviews.

How it works?

Set price to free
Pay for downloads + ratings
Raise the price

That's the thing; no matter which way you slice it, Plan A should be 'a unified app platform & App Store' IMO. As a dev I don't want to build two apps, as a user I don't want to buy two apps. My Plan A would have been 'iOS', but if macOS is sticking around this is how to do it https://t.co/A4dXpjw9CO

I don't think you could choose to make Marzipan happen today, 8 yrs after they should have started that work, w/o having spent yrs following the ideal path down the rabbit hole & leaving w/ nothing to show for it. Should have been Plan A a decade ago, but no way it's Plan A today

Agreed, but I think looking at the Mojave apps and saying "there better be more to this story" is fair 😉
