AppKit contains support for contextual help via the Help key, although it hasn't shipped on new Mac keyboards for ~12 years now (see NSHelpManager).

However, if you trick it into thinking you have a NeXT keyboard (details elided), you can activate help cursor with Ctrl+Option.

There’s also no market for AppKit stuff. Mac Catalyst SDK? We have many customers waiting.

We're continuing to grow the AppKit team to match an expanding repertoire of technologies including the core Mac experience and APIs, Mac Catalyst support, and SwiftUI. We'll have 3 openings soon; here's one: https://t.co/PImPBIyRXJ

(I'll add the others as they go up.)

Business Insider has found that marketing firm HYP3R has illicitly scraping Instagram data to build up detailed profiles about millions of people. Instagram failed to notice — and even lauded HYP3R as a “Marketing Partner.” https://t.co/SysEUTCjlS

🤔

“After updating to iOS 13 beta 6, iCloud Drive might synchronize for an extended period of time. If you notice any missing files, they can be found in a Recovered Files folder under On My iPhone/iPad within the Files app. (53772753)”

Sadly, I'm afraid that solves a different problem: it lets you change your file extension, but only your file extension, not the name. (And the file coordinator API which is key to the process is documented to do nothing on iOS, although I tested it anyway just in case.)

... The advice to never optimize without measuring as you go along goes double for multi-threading."

A lot of things Apple has recommended in recent years have been, well, sub-optimal.

libdispatch is a good implementation of something rarely needed, with a pretty horrible API.

From a, cough, well-respected, cough, performance book:

"In the end, I've rarely had to use multi-threading for speeding up a CPU-bound task in anger, and chances are good that I would have made my code slower
rather than faster.

Do any developers out there know what iOS sandboxing trick gives your app permission to rename the document you're editing, even when it's in another app's container (i.e. a storage provider outside your sandbox)? (The iWork apps support this when tapping on the document title.)

Point is, IMHO, aTV has HUGE potential IF Apple is willing to look at it as "our home hub/always-on box/home server" and open it up that way.

Provide APIs (and minimal HW expansion capabilities) and it becomes an essential box for every Apple household.

The constant theme I come back to is the best way to square the circle is to have Beats do this work. Beats becomes the Apple-trusted, but non-Apple brand.
Apple is Lexus, Beats is Toyota.

But this is problematic. AirPlay 2 everywhere is, sure, "implementation of spec". But also means that you can't look at a TV that says "AirPlay2 on it" and assume "Apple has vetted this as a TV with decent security policies and likely to keep SW updated".

The first Apple TV was a great TV box that came early to its market — it was merely expensive, not expensive AND worse than competitors in key ways AND late to a saturated market, like the HomePod.

I’d also argue that Apple *is* backing away from Apple TV as a hardware platform. https://t.co/1ybB09K5jD
