A fundamental limitation of the menu-based GUI application that still hasn't been fixed after what, 34 years? is that items can be disabled and not tell you WHY they're disabled. pic.twitter.com/xZvFHM6Zrl

The sad part of this is that developers actually do have leverage, but we're just not organized and can't agree on what is fair. It would take the whole community coming together. Most developers think that Apple's tight control over app distribution is fine. (Spoiler: I don't.)

My copy of WordPress is prompting me to install the new “Gutenberg” editor. I wanted to be sure that my plain text Markdown-based environment wouldn’t be affected, so I looked at the reviews, and, well… pic.twitter.com/bra2vvAnhX

Epic's reason for keeping it off of App Stores where possible is the same reason Apple wants it on the Mac Store: It makes an obscene amount of IAP money and Apple wants a cut of it everywhere they can get a cut.

Read the documentation of DISPATCH_QUEUE_SERIAL_WITH_AUTORELEASE_POOL: you can't change the target queue after activation.

The set_target_queue you're doing here is almost a no-op (it makes your queue non overcommit which I would expect is not what you want).

Also annoying thing about iOS/Mac development: Still no CMake integration in Xcode, after both Visual Studio and Android Studio have added integration.

CMake is not alien to Apple either. Swift and LLVM both are built with it.

Expect more stinginess over time, not less. That’s the reality of the pressures on any public company and the leaders hired to run it.

And the increased reliance on services revenue is likely to make Apple’s needs diverge further from customer benefits over time.

You don’t become a trillion-dollar company without being shamelessly stingy in key areas.

And as unit growth slows in the most profitable products, you need to keep growing profits each year by becoming increasingly stingy in more and more areas. https://t.co/mNhPIGpKKf

The term that keeps coming to my mind is “penny-pinching.” I don’t mean high prices, I mean things like removing the power cord extension from the MacBook Pro box or keeping the free iCloud storage tier at 5GB.
