There are several places where the runtime enforces a bound on a data structure traversal to catch cycles introduced by bugs or memory corruption. (Here the superclass chain is bounded by the count of classes registered.) A crash is far better than a power-draining infinite loop.

macOS really needs new security settings to disable Gatekeeper features.

Or just the entire thing scrapped and reverted to 10.6 behaviour 🤷‍♂️ https://t.co/bT3KHaxRPv

Then again, this even pops up for the Simulator. If only one could pack this into a menu bar icon to indicate the verification process… pic.twitter.com/lS0lCvi50I

Let me explain 3.

A lot of people tried ADN, but they didn't want to quit Twitter right away. Cross-posting sucks, because that's just duplicated messages for anyone on both platforms. IMO the best solution would be to add Twitter integration to ADN apps so that they appear as 1

In retrospect, here's what I think went wrong with https://t.co/sjEonrPXBY:

1) Bad name. https://t.co/jYn9omRvcG is a confusing name for a social network, and the "alpha" part was even more confusing.

2) No free account option from the beginning.

3) No Twitter integration.

This is terrifying, Apple messed up massively!

The amount of people’s lives integrated into iOS now is massive. Terminating an account at this point should be a nuclear option never used except for extreme cases. https://t.co/E5GECnC13D

Apple’s big services failing. Everything they do is very iOS centric.

Things that Google, Amazon or Microsoft would have a website & native app for, Apple only has an app for, which is normally very limited and locked down too nowadays. https://t.co/GTOpOdb2m3

“Apple will target users for marketing emails and push notifications based on their transaction history”

Apple’s push to become a services company is toxic to its incentives.
We are seeing it with almost every product launch now.https://t.co/DQTuVDu7CI

The irony here, is that thanks to the https://t.co/dDez9d6bYK.files.user-selected.executable entitlement, developers are better off using non-sandboxed native apps.

Apps like Visual Studio Code have an a distinct advantage with lesser security.

It looks like https://t.co/dDez9d6bYK.files.user-selected.executable is the secret sauce in this:

$ codesign -dvvvv --entitlements :- /System/Applications/TextEdit.app/

And it looks like it's not generally available:https://t.co/ZL3sV85QT3 https://t.co/lrbEW3pVbR

I also don't have an answer for why TextEdit no longer puts a script into a quarantine when you edit it. (I just tested it with the instruction above.)

If there are going to be rules like this, Apple's own apps should not get special entitlements. Let everyone suffer equally…

Today, it struck me that Google is having a much bigger impact on software design than Apple, since it provides all of its fonts and Material Design elements for free.

If you use another editor try this test:

$ (echo '#!/bin/sh' && echo 'echo test') > /tmp/wtf
$ chmod u+x /tmp/wtf

Then edit /tmp/wtf with your editor and save. Check quarantine with:

$ xattr -l /tmp/wtf

A https://t.co/oNvpYP9hbp.quarantine means your script won't run.
