I wonder same. I bought into Mac because of iLife and things like Preview. Since then iPhoto/ iMovie have become parodies of good apps (also Aperture killed), Preview is mostly broken, and former iWork never delivered. Might as well run Office, Lightroom, and Acrobat on Windows.

Ex Apple employee here (PR manager). They stopped caring about prosumers in 2011-12. The prosumer managers were made redundant. Entire focus is (was) on consumers.

I never understood the hatred for iTunes. Now its performance is bad, but it’s always been just a targeted database, and it worked quite well for YEARS. There’s nothing inherently bad about it, it just needed upkeep and never got it

This week, I've been using iTunes to manage my extensive music library. Its performance has become shocking. But it's still the most powerful, versatile music library app I've ever used.

Abandoning iTunes for Apple Music is equivalent to forcing people to use Excel Mobile on Mac

Instead of revamping & maintaining the Truck App, they're taking it all and just throwing it away. iTunes is only terrible because they've neglected it.

At this rate, the (abandoned!) Google Play Music web app will have more music management functionality https://t.co/cGcRABp92E

Doesn't look like it. I think Apple will slowly sunset their content stores on Windows; iTunes on Windows will stick around as a legacy app for some time https://t.co/UeOC1viwjC

Though not the point of the post, but that "as long as the products were dependable" hits close to home. I could accept paying a lot when I saved time on troubleshooting etc. Now it feels like paying even more cash *and* paying with my time for all the broken things. 😔

I am now fairly confident based on evidence I don't wish to make public at this point that Apple is planning new (likely UIKit) Music, Podcasts, perhaps even Books, apps for macOS, to join the new TV app. I expect the four to be the next wave of Marzipan apps. Grain of salt, etc

2) "Your app installs code in shared locations.

Specifically, Firefox > Install Firefox Add-on."

I don't know what to do about this one. Like I said, I've had this since January.

App review seems to have 2 complaints:
1) "We noticed that your app or its metadata provides access to external mechanisms for purchases or subscriptions to be used in the app"

This one is completely false, I have no external payment.

One of the reasons they rejected me was for the Firefox extension. WHICH I'VE HAD SINCE JANUARY AND DIDN'T CHANGE AT ALL IN THIS UPDATE!!!!!!!

I totally understand that many Mac users are desperate for Marzipan to mean anything other than iOS apps taking over macOS. If Marzipan were prioritizing games, then you wouldn't have to worry about your Mac-like apps going away, etc. But Apple Arcade is not here to save you

Great post, but games are the least likely app type to benefit from Marzipan. They're the only native app type on iOS that can just be recompiled for macOS as-is, today, without a Marzipan. All of the underlying frameworks for games in iOS are already unified with macOS https://t.co/Pzdny37sqn

We are on the cusp of a post-PC war for the desktop, with macOS running iOS apps, Microsoft's post-Windows 'Lite'/Santorini OS, and whatever consensus Google reaches between ChromeOS, Android and Fuchsia. We have been in a lull for a while, but don't mistake that for 'maturity'
