To me this email suggests they're going to require notarization for all downloads in macOS 10.15. Pretty hard push for everything. pic.twitter.com/VbGsxTAilj

Of course, the most likely scenario is that marzipanOS Music will just be a straight port of the iPad app.

If you need any of this "legacy cruft", you'll need to use the neglected iTunes app (which will turn into abandonware).

·CD ripping will be relegated to legacy iTunes, since most PCs don't even have drives anymore
·Agreed on Mini player
·Genius is dead, as evident by its removal after Apple Music is enabled
·Agree – album art downloading should be part of metadata editing
·Scripting is v. unlikely https://t.co/1UTUPVpI5J

Some argue that music importing is niche and/or inessential, but much of music is precisely that. Also, Apple touts Match as an AM benefit.

Speaking of Books, I'd hope the Marzipan Books app would allow for importing your own audiobooks/audio files, with metadata editing as well https://t.co/PawQHsAX1x

· Import & upload local music
· Full metadata editing
· Smart Playlists with all metadata filters intact (As an example: last week, I was able to find songs that have been pulled from Apple Music, and filter which songs have been uploaded rather than matched or added to library) https://t.co/j1DLfJ31yb

So if I understand these results:
- declare built with 10.14 SDK, hardening is required for notarization
- lie about that, or use older SDK, and you can notarize unhardened apps.

"Get Out" on Amazon Video/iTunes: $15

"Get Out" on Blu-Ray w/ "Movies Anywhere" code: $10.

I know this is true for a lot of movies, but that doesn't make it any less dumb. As long as you can wait 2 days to watch a movie, you get a physical-media backup & save 1/3 of the price.

Lots of replies! I don't see Smart Playlists coming back, but I do think music sideloading is essential. If you allow music importing, however, you also *need* metadata editing. Does importing fit the model? Well, Books has importing, but TV does not…

I bought a like-new Kindle Voyage 2 weeks ago off Amazon for only $80. Replaced my Kindle 3. Very happy with it.

Started over. New project in xcode 10 called "elvis" (signed sealed delivered).

Archive build, tried to upload for notarization via xcode. Gave error about hardening needs to be enabled.

I had to codesign all my command line tools using the -o runtime flag in order for them to be accept inside an app bundle.

Hardening looks to be enforced by Xcode for notarization, but there doesn't seem to be any such requirement on the server side. However, I have seen the error message on the server. I did codesign it via the CLI prior to zipping/uploading. pic.twitter.com/61o1P3dvm3

I just submitted the same app (but with an unmodified plist) via the command line and got the same results: "Status Message: Package Approved"

The same binary in Xcode give the error about hardening not enabled and won't even submit it.

So it looks like Xcode is trusted.

So the requirement for hardening is determined by the declared SDK, even that’s a lie.

With 10.14 and 10.15, macOS will have gained at least 8 new system apps — Music, TV, Podcasts, Books, News, Home, Stocks, Voice Memos — from the looks of it, all UIKit. Don't worry, there are still 27 AppKit system apps in the Applications folder, but what happens next?

What features of iTunes do you see as essential to bring to the new Music app for macOS, and, by extension, to Music on iOS? What features are you happy to lose to time?

Here's a fun experiment:

Build an app in Xcode 10 without hardened runtime. Tweak the Info.plist to lie about the Xcode and SDK versions. Then codesign the app again with Developer ID from the command-line, zip up the app, and try to notarize the zip with altool.
