iPhone models dominate Flickr’s list of most popular cameras in 2017 with 54% of top 100 devices | TechCrunch
Sarah Perez, writing for TechCrunch:

This year, iPhone has scored the majority (54%) of usage on Flickr’s site, up from 47 percent of the top 100 in 2016, and 42 percent the year prior. The iPhone also passed Nikon to score the spot as the second-most popular camera back in 2014.

Nikon was the third most popular brand with 18 percent in 2017, and Canon was number two, responsible for 23 percent of the top 100 devices.

The iPhone is so popular as a camera that its share on Flickr now exceeds all Canon and Nikon cameras combined.

Word on Women | CLRC
This project, Word on Women: A Directory of Historical Records Collections Documenting the History of Women in New York State, was designed as a research tool to document the contributions made by women throughout the State of New York in the fields of science, education, religion, art, medicine, and in numerous other walks of life. This directory improves the documentation of women and women’s organizations that, purposefully or not, contributed to events of the past that shape our present lives.
Originally produced in 1999, this resource guide contains entries from over 100 archives, libraries, historical societies, schools and other repositories holding historical records in which women are represented. Each entry contains a brief description of the repository’s holdings specific to women, contact information for the repository, and other useful information for researchers.
As of March 2015, this material will be undergoing a review as we work to update the guide’s information. The planned revision will include updates to content, presentation, usability, and technical standards. In the meantime, all of the information formerly found in the database has been placed into an Excel workbook, with sheets organized by New York counties and the rest of the information organized alphabetically by holding institution.

Silicon Valley is sneaking models into this year’s holiday parties • Bloomberg
Sarah Frier:

Local modeling agencies, which work with Facebook- and Google-size companies as well as much smaller businesses and the occasional wealthy individual, say a record number of tech companies are quietly paying $50 to $200 an hour for each model hired solely to chat up attendees. For a typical party, scheduled for the weekend of Dec. 8, Cre8 Agency LLC is sending 25 women and 5 men, all good-looking, to hang out with “pretty much all men” who work for a large gaming company in San Francisco, says Cre8 President Farnaz Kermaani. The company, which she wouldn’t name, has handpicked the models based on photos, made them sign nondisclosure agreements, and given them names of employees to pretend they’re friends with, in case anyone asks why he’s never seen them around the foosball table.

“The companies don’t want their staff to be talking to someone and think, Oh, this person was hired to socialize with me,” says Kermaani, who’s sending models to seven tech parties in the same weekend.

Now they're just going to suspect it of everyone, though.

PDQ: Pretty Damn QuickPerformance Analyzer
PDQ: Pretty Damn Quick Performance Analyzer From the performance standpoint, modern computer systems can be thought of as a network of buffers where requests wait for service at shared computational resources. Since a buffer is a queue, all computer systems can be represented as a network of queues.
