First HomePod ads appear | iLounge News
Apple has posted four HomePod ads on its official YouTube channel, in the form of four 15-second music-focused clips that emphasize the HomePod primarily as a “breakthrough speaker.” The ads, titled Distortion, Bass, Equalizer, and Beat are each set to their own tracks, with most of the clip animating the word “HomePod” to the beat of the music, followed by a very brief glimpse of the speaker followed by an “Order Now” closing screen.

Code Review Isn't Evil. Security Through Obscurity Is. | Electronic Frontier Foundation
On January 25th, Reuters reported that software companies like McAfee, SAP, and Symantec allow Russian authorities to review their source code, and that "this practice potentially jeopardizes the security of computer networks in at least a dozen federal agencies." The article goes on to explain what source code review looks like and which companies allow source code reviews, and reiterates that "allowing Russia to review the source code may expose unknown vulnerabilities that could be used to undermine U.S. network defenses."
The spin of this article implies that requesting code reviews is malicious behavior. This is simply not the case. Reviewing source code is an extremely common practice conducted by regular companies as well as software and security professionals to ensure certain safety guarantees of the software being installed. The article also notes that “Reuters has not found any instances where a source code review played a role in a cyberattack.” At EFF, we routinely conduct code reviews of any software that we elect to use.

Amazon Health – Stratechery by Ben Thompson
It’s pretty rare for the same company to feature in two consecutive Weekly Articles; yesterday’s announcement of a health care initiative involving Amazon, though, is not only incredibly intriguing, it also fits directly into some of the most important themes on Stratechery. I couldn’t resist.
THE ANNOUNCEMENT
From a joint press release:
Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway and JPMorgan Chase & Co. announced today that they are partnering on ways to address healthcare for their U.S. employees, with the aim of improving employee satisfaction and reducing costs. The three companies, which bring their scale and complementary expertise to this long-term effort, will pursue this objective through an independent company that is free from profit-making incentives and constraints. The initial focus of the new company will be on technology solutions that will provide U.S. employees and their families with simplified, high-quality and transparent healthcare at a reasonable cost.

Make It Happen with Keanu Reeves — The Official Squarespace Blog
On February 4th, we’re returning to the Big Game with our fifth Super Bowl ad – and we’ve teamed up with iconic action star Keanu Reeves to share our message that everyone is worthy of their dreams.
Keanu founded Arch Motorcycle six years ago in partnership with co-founder Gard Hollinger when they turned their passion for motorcycles into a real business. Keanu has been a Squarespace customer since 2015.
“When we were looking at places to create our website for Arch Motorcycle, Squarespace was really the best fit,” said Keanu of the partnership. “There’s something about Squarespace that’s really accessible, yet sophisticated. The design, functionality, and interactivity share a similar ethos to Arch.”
