“This mass of micro brands with massively efficient marketing are, in aggregate, having a much bigger impact than anyone thinks. Using hyper-targeted marketing, just-in-time manufacturing, and social media, these brands find and engage their audience wherever they may be. With the power to conceive, test, and execute ideas without much overhead, the creativity and ingenuity of designers is at the center of the future of brands.” – Scott Belsky

Twitter API Changes Likely to Hobble Third-party Apps – Stuntbox
“Ironically, Twitter owes its initial success to third-party developers more than most products. Twitter launched during the pre-iPhone, pre-app Internet, and was nominally based on SMS. But the way enthusiastic early members interacted with it most was through desktop apps built by third parties. For years Twitter had none of its own. “Twitter was born during an era when having an API was seen as a virtue, and enabling third-party developers was a key to growth. They reaped the benefits of that—they even co-opted their brand from a desktop Mac application—becoming immensely popular along the way.”

How We Adopted CSS Grid at Scale | Julian Gaviria — Web Designer
“Instead of choosing one over the other, we agreed to use CSS Grid at the layout level and Flexbox at the component level (arranging child items of components). Although there’s some overlap and in some cases both could be used interchangeably, abiding by this rule helped us avoid any confusion in gray areas.” #aeasea

There really are plenty of conservative columnists.
“If, as conservatives have insisted over decades of uninterrupted complaint, the American people really are being indoctrinated into liberalism in their formative years at our schools and colleges and in their adult years by an oppressively slanted press, how exactly does one explain the American political situation in 2018, with right-wing control of the presidency, the House, the Senate, the Supreme Court, 33 governorships, and 32 state legislatures?”

‘In 2010, Jeffrey Zeldman wrote “An InDesign for HTML and CSS?”, which explored the idea of a web prototyping tool, accessible and familiar to visual designers, that would output decent code that could be handed off to developers. Eight years later, have we reached that goal, or is it time for a new call to action?’

Facebook’s Surveillance Machine - The New York Times
Facebook makes money, in other words, by profiling us and then selling our attention to advertisers, political actors and others. These are Facebook’s true customers, whom it works hard to please. Facebook doesn’t just record every click and “like” on the site. It also collects browsing histories. It also purchases “external” data like financial information about users (though European nations have some regulations that block some of this). Facebook recently announced its intent to merge “offline” data — things you do in the physical world, such as making purchases in a brick-and-mortar store — with its vast online databases. Facebook even creates “shadow profiles” of nonusers. That is, even if you are not on Facebook, the company may well have compiled a profile of you, inferred from data provided by your friends or from other data. This is an involuntary dossier from which you cannot opt out in the United States.
