What to Expect When You’re Expecting a Demagogue - McSweeney’s Internet Tendency
First of all, congratulations! Expecting a demagogue is truly a life-changing experience. While the specifics of having a demagogue can’t be fully predictable (such is the nature of demagoguery), this guide will help you navigate your new life. At least until your demagogue fully dismantles your world into a fiery, post-truth oblivion.

Trump’s America is a rotten place - The Washington Post
President Trump delivered a campaign speech, not an inaugural address, on Friday. That he and his staff do not understand the difference goes to the heart of his insufficiency as a leader. Addressing a shockingly sparse crowd, he painted a picture of a hellish America that can only be restored by turning inward, deciding the world is a burden and our allies are thieves.

It was obvious to anyone paying attention that the incoming administration would be blatantly corrupt. But would it at least be efficient in its corruption? Many Trump voters certainly thought they were choosing a smart businessman who would get things done. And even those who knew better may have hoped that the president-elect, his ego finally sated, would settle down to running the country — or at least delegate the boring business of governing America to people actually capable of doing the job. But it’s not happening. Mr. Trump hasn’t pivoted, matured, whatever term you prefer. He’s still the insecure, short-attention-span egomaniac he always was. Worse, he is surrounding himself with people who share many of his flaws.

Lara Hogan at Postlight – Let Me Repost That For You – Medium
I believe in public speaking (and writing) because a person who is comfortable sharing ideas and communicating to groups can evangelize designs, principles, and best practices. This in turn helps build consensus, support collaboration, and keep everyone’s eyes focused on what’s best for users — instead of, say, which colors a powerful committee member dislikes, or how much bigger we could make a button or logo.

Stop obsessing over ‘secrets’ about Trump and Russia. What we already know is bad enough. - The Washington Post
Trump doesn’t have to be a Manchurian candidate who has been hypnotized or recruited by foreign intelligence. It’s enough that he has direct and indirect links to a profoundly corrupt and violent foreign dictator, whose policies he admires, whose advisers he shares and whose slogans he uses.

‘When responsive design came along I hoped this might end the “must look the same” argument for ever. How can anyone demand that the site “looks the same” on a phone screen, an old PC, a high-end Mac with a Retina screen … a watch? Yet it seems, here in 2017, we are having the same argument.’

What the bleep happened at the Trump news conference? - The Washington Post
If The President Does It, It Is No Conflict. Thus, any steps he takes to take his business out of his hands are from the simple, self-sacrificing kindness of his heart. Why, just the other day, someone offered him $2 billion to do a deal in Dubai! Two billion dollars! And would you believe it: He didn’t take it. His point is, we should be grateful. As he repeatedly stressed, he doesn’t have to do this! This whole president thing — it’s really a big pain, and he doesn’t have to do it at all! (In fact, I wish he wouldn’t.)

Norm Eisen, Chief Ethics Counsel for Barack Obama and Richard Painter, Chief Ethics Counsel for George W. Bush released a joint statement: Tragically, the Trump plan to deal with his business conflicts announced today falls short in every respect. Mr. Trump did not make a clean break with his business ownership interests as his predecessors for four decades have done; did not establish a blind trust or the equivalent as bipartisan experts and OGE called for; entrusted trust responsibility in his family and a current employee, rather than in an independent trustee; did not screen all “emoluments …of any kind whatever,” as required by the constitution, but only some revenues, and only from his hotels; and offered an inadequate and scantily-detailed ethics wall. Mr. Trump’s ill-advised course will precipitate scandal and corruption.

Meryl Streep called out Trump’s bullying and lies. Trump just hit back — with still more lies. - The Washington Post
Here Trump is telling two lies about a third lie. Lie No. 1 is that thousands of U.S.-based Muslims celebrated 9/11. Lie No. 2 is that the disabled reporter’s original story backed Trump and that the reporter backtracked on it. Lie No. 3 is that Trump didn’t mock that disabled reporter (in fact, he flapped his hands around frantically after saying, “you gotta see this guy!”).
