Seven principles of effective digital navigation – Gerry McGovern – Medium
Nobody is at your website or app to gaze lovingly at your navigation. “I didn’t like the Grand Canyon itself, but I did enjoy the fonts they used on their signposts,” said nobody, ever (except maybe a graphic designer).

A11y Rules Podcast Episode 21 - Interview with Jeffrey Zeldman - Part 1 | Nicolas Steenhout on Patreon
A11y Rules Podcast Episode 21 - Interview with Jeffrey Zeldman - Part 1 Nic: Hey, Jeffrey, we're talking about web accessibility this morning. There's about two billion different definitions of the word. How would you define it? Jeffrey: Right. I would go back to web standards principles like progressive enhancement which say, the web is genius because it allows everyone access to content and to interactivity. And I would say that an accessible site is one that allows anyone, regardless of native physical ability, regardless of temporary physical ability, regardless of device used, or browser, or phone used, to access content. Doesn't mean they have an identical experience. Obviously someone who can't hear isn't going to hear, someone who can't see isn't going to see. Someone using a really old browser may have a simplified layout. But everyone can get to the content, everyone can do what the website promises to let them do. Because basically we've had interactivity since HTML1. Right?

Why don’t nonprofit sites convert? – Jeffrey Zeldman – Medium
“Failure has 1000 fathers, and most businesses fail, so the fact that a website doesn’t convert could mean almost anything. To know what it actually means, you need data, and need to watch users interact with it.” Zeldman in 2017, counting down the hits.

Things Trump Has Condemned Other Than White Nationalists
While he could not bring himself to condemn American Neo-Nazis and Klan members, Donald Trump *has* used his presidential lectern and Twitter feed to condemn opinion polls that are unflattering to him; his own attorney general, Jeff Sessions; Canada; Mexico; China; transgender military service members; acting FBI director Andrew McCabe; former FBI director James Comey; the FBI; Nordstrom; “fake news;” Senator John McCain; Senator Lisa Murkowski; Senator Lindsey Graham; all Senate Republicans (his own party); Barack Obama; Hillary Clinton; and many more.

It’s just lunch. – A List Apart Sidebar – Medium
I HADN’T heard from her in years. Suddenly, there she was in my in-box. Tentatively proposing coffee. Maybe lunch. A dam broke inside me, releasing a flood of warm memories. Our first, tentative contact ten years or more ago. Getting to know each other. Endless, happy discussions about where this thing was going. Coming together on goals and brand; on voice and tone. Finally, the joy of designing and launching her website. And then, abruptly, the last invoice and the hurried departure. My former client. She had a new job now. She wanted to catch up. And, sheepishly, she admitted, she might want something more. Advice about a design problem. ...

Browser Support for evergreen websites
‘When responsive design came along I hoped this might end the “must look the same” argument for ever. How can anyone demand that the site “looks the same” on a phone screen, an old PC, a high-end Mac with a Retina screen … a watch? Yet it seems, here in 2017, we are having the same argument.’
