Duply (simple duplicity) - duply
duply is a frontend for the mighty duplicity magic. duplicity is a python based shell application that makes encrypted incremental backups to remote storages. Different backends like ftp, sftp, imap, s3 and others are supported. See duplicity manpage for a complete list of backends and features.

duply simplifies running duplicity with cron or on command line by:

keeping recurring settings in profiles per backup job
automated import/export of keys between profile and keyring
enabling batch operations eg. backup_verify_purge
executing pre/post scripts
precondition checking for flawless duplicity operation

Since version 1.5.0 all duplicity backends are supported. Hence the name changed from ftplicity to duply.

Tutorial: Create your own automated backup scripts in Linux with S3
As a software development company, we are often tasked to create backup scripts to ensure data is recoverable in case of catastrophic failure. I’m sharing below the basic script that we use to some clients that require automated daily backup script in Linux and Amazon S3. This script supports backup of files and database into a local storage and transfer the backup files to Amazon S3.

WinToFlash - Install Windows from usb - Home page
There may come a day that optical drives are as hard to find as 5.25 floppy drives are today.

WinToFlash starts a wizard that will help pull over the contents of a windows installation CD or DVD and prep the USB drive to become a bootable replacement for the optical drive. It can alsow do this with your LiveCD.

You don't have to worry about scratches on the disc or misplacing your original media discs once you transfer their contents to the flash drive. The optical drive is quickly becoming a thing of the past, especially in office environments, as media is shifted to the cloud.

Adjust web interface for root-squash

The file ‘rootfs’ is a squashfs. You can unsquash it by using:

sudo unsquashfs rootfs

You will have to do this as root (or sudo). Now a directory squashfs-root is made containing all files.

Change the folowing files:

squasfs-root/www/html/nfs.inc: download this file here.
squasfs-root/www/html/resources.inc: download this file here.

Double Driver
One of the main reasons why you would want to collect installed drivers is if you don’t have the Driver CD that came with the computer or they are unavailable online. This comes in quite handy if you purchase a computer and want to backup the initial set of drivers. It can be quite difficulty for example to find drivers for hardware installed in a notebook if the operating system has to be setup again. Luckily Double Driver can now lend you a hand with that and save you a lot of time.

Free Utility: RichCopy, an Advanced Alternative to RoboCopy
RichCopy is a free utility that comes to us from Ken Tamaru of Microsoft. The tool was first developed in 2001 and has been updated regularly to keep pace with evolving needs. Trust me when I tell you, this is the answer to all your file copying needs. What you'll find most striking the first time you take RichCopy out for a spin is that it's a multithreaded copying tool. That means that rather than copying one file at a time in serial order, RichCopy can open multiple threads simultaneously, allowing many files to be copied in parallel and cutting the total time required to complete the operation several times over. You can also pause and resume file copy operations, so if you lose network connectivity at any point, you can just pick up where you left off.

DriveImage XML Backup Software
DriveImage XML is an easy to use and reliable program for imaging and backing up partitions and logical drives. The program allows you to:
# Backup logical drives and partitions to image files
# Browse these images, view and extract files
# Restore these images to the same or a different drive
# Copy directly from drive to drive
# Schedule automatic backups with your Task Scheduler
Image creation uses Microsoft's Volume Shadow Services (VSS), allowing you to create safe "hot images" even from drives currently in use.

DeltaCopy - Rsync for Windows
DeltaCopy is a "Windows Friendly" wrapper around the Rsync program.

In general terms, DeltaCopy is an open source, fast incremental backup program. Let's say you have to backup one file that is 500 MB every night. A normal file copy would copy the entire file even if a few bytes have changed. DeltaCopy, on the other hand, would only copy the part of file that has actually been modified. This reduces the data transfer to just a small fraction of 500 MB saving time and network bandwidth.

UBCD for Windows (Ultimate Boot CD for Windows)
UBCD4Win is a bootable recovery CD that contains software used for repairing, restoring, or diagnosing almost any computer problem. Our goal is to be the most complete and easy to use free computer diagnostic tool. Almost all software included in UBCD4Win are freeware utilities for Windows®. Some of the tools inlcuded are "free for personal use" copies so users need to respect these licenses. A few of the tools included in UBCD4Win are paid for and licensed software owned by UBCD4win. On occasion we work with software companies/authors for permission to include their software in our download or have requested their software better support PE. Users can freely share copies of UBCD4Win with friends but selling UBCD4Win for a profit is not acceptable
