Crystal Faith A view to the faith, in between crystals and a woman. "La Passion de Jeanne d'Arc" inspiration for me always as woman, as part of this world, as part of my self. Zoom in to the beauty, to the simple beauty,. to the beauty of paralyze without force. to the beauty of emptiness. MUSIC Spyros Polychronopoulos - second act from the album: Spyros Polychronopoulos (with Antonis Anissegos) - piano acts (room40 2013) "Spyros Polychronopoulos is a tireless experimenter. Restless with convention he seeks to uncover that which lies in parallel to the well trodden path. That which is reachable, yet still, so often overlooked. With PIano Acts, he creates swelling masses of treated pianos. Compositions that expand and contract with an unerring sense of pace and Taking cue from American Minimalism, he burrows further into reductionism examining phase and looping at both macro and micro perspectives. The results of this examination speak to his skill as both composer and technician. Collaborating with Antonis Anissegos on two of the pieces, Polychronopoulos Piano Acts is a timely reminder of the profound nature of tonal percussion, time and treatment." http://emporium.room40.org/products/522212-spyros-polychronopoulos-with-antonis-anissegos-piano-acts kukuland

Vinay Gupta, Change Tears and Shear Planes… how technology is splitting society, and leaving us indecisive Overview: Vinay Gupta is the designer of the hexayurt, a modern disaster relief shelter alternative to the tent. In this talk, he will be discussing social cohesion and Open Source, the profound disorientation caused by nanotechnology and nanomaterials and why Edward Snowden probably marks the beginning of the end of "business as usual" for the rest of our lives. Biography: Vinay Gupta is one of the world’s leading thinkers on infrastructure theory, state failure solutions, and managing global system risks, including poverty/development and the environmental crisis. He works at both the theoretical level, building models and mapping tools like Simple Critical Infrastructure Maps (used by US DOD) and at the completely practical level, where he is best known as the designer of the hexayurt, an award-winning replacement for the disaster relief tent which provides shelter at 20% the cost of a tent. Gupta helped start the US National Defense University STAR-TIDES program on humanitarian assistance, consulted on urban resilience for Arup, and is an Associate Fellow of the UCL Institute for Security and Resilience Studies WSA Global Futures

Tobias Revell on the future of art and design at 'A New Dawn' by ArtEZ studium generale, 24 May 2013 Tobias Revell outlines how the willing acceptance and grasping of uncertainty has led to a new way of thinking in the present and a resurgence of romantic futurism. He gives specific examples of solutions outside of a 'grand plan', new production methods that liberalise and free design and art from larger systems. He shows how science-fiction imagery and fantasy have penetrated the arts. Opening lecture at 'A New Dawn' by ArtEZ studium generale on 24 May 2013, Enschede, the Netherlands. Into The Atmosphere on Vimeo
Into The Atmosphere A special thanks to Vice and The Creators Project for filming an awesome behind the scenes video and finally letting me tell my story about my learning disability and how art has helped me find my path in life. You can check out the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxxV5mIcI9E& “Into The Atmosphere,” is my tribute to the state of California and the beautiful deserts, mountains and coastlines that exist there. This video showcases a variety of national/state parks as well as less recognized natural areas. The video also focuses on clouds, fog and interesting atmospheric conditions. Although California is known for blue sunshine skies, seeing a colorful storm cloud over Half Dome or an incredible sunset at the La Jolla Coves is really a sight to see. The goal of this video is to show these environments in their best possible light. Living in California all my life, I had as much time as I needed to really capture the essence and beauty it provides. This video was an ongoing project for about a year with an estimated 75,000 images taken, and about 12,400 made it into the 3.5 minute piece. My Grandmother Alice Harpin passed away during the last two weeks of shooting this video. The film is dedicated to her memory. Without her and the love of my family this video would not have been possible. To create this video there were many nights sleeping outside, and many days spent in the wild to embrace the environment and get to know the surroundings. There is a common misconception about Timelapse shooters that we quickly set up cameras and go sleep in the car for hours at a time, which is far from the truth. We are constantly hiking heavy equipment through dangerous areas and spending time camping in uncomfortable situations, I love it and wouldn't trade it for anything else. Some of the locations are Mono Lake, Anza Borrego Desert, Alabama Hills, Trona Pinnacles, Big Sur, Mount Laguna, Santa Maria, Yosemite, Gaviota, The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, La Jolla Coves, Santa Ynez, the San Francisco Coast, and the Santa Barbara Mountains. Flood Stains (2010) on Vimeo
Flood Stains (2010) Flood Stains heralds another return of Lydia Lunch, the star of the No Wave movement in NYC that brought up Jim Jarmusch, Amos Poe, Scott B. and Beth B., Richard Kern, Jean Michel Basquiat, Brian Eno and Sonic Youth, among others - as well as co-pioneering spoke word performance and film with Henry Rollins. The single-take film features Lunch as Saltmaster, who ritualistically opens Vivarium - an installation by architect-artist Juan Azulay at legendary SCI-Arc, in downtown Los Angeles - after robots, bacteria, algae and salt had been trapped and monitored for over three months. Lunch performs a mutated version of 'In Spite of God' to her original composition of her first 'bacterial opera'. Co-written by Lunch and Azulay. New Aesthetic: Time Travel Test Using my own photos from Instagram, I plotted the Lat and Longitude of each photo, taking me from London, to Liverpool, to the Scottish Border, and then Edinburgh. After looking further into the Lat and Long and how the co-ordinates were made up, I discovered time played an important part in the set up of the co-ordinates. This allowed me to then "time travel" backwards three days, to Canada, were my photos were took. All info is true, the photos WOULD have been taken there, three days before. Spooky stuff. EXISTENCE A TIMELAPSE PROJECT on Vimeo
EXISTENCE A TIMELAPSE PROJECT It’s been almost a year since I started my journey into time-lapse photography. This project has been an ongoing process for about 4 months. There was a lot of trial and error involved, and I spent many sleepless nights in many different unexpected places. Creating this film has taught me about patience, and what it really takes to achieve the shot that you dream about in your head. I realized through the process that the gear isn't as important as the passion you put within your work. This short video is called EXISTENCE. The video is a statement not only about time and progression, but also a statement about the world we have created for ourselves. The basis of the video contrasts the two extremes of life itself: the urban metropolis, and the beauty outside the city. I love to stargaze. Watching the milky-way float across the sky is one of the most therapeutic experiences I have ever felt. If you haven’t experienced it, then I strongly recommend taking the time to do so. Enjoy. Marconi's Shipwreck on Vimeo
Marconi's Shipwreck A fairly heavily crunched version, it's not the easiest to fit 72 minutes of audio/video in a file less than 500mb. Marconi, pioneer of radio once hypothesized that soundwaves, once generated, never die, that they fade, but continue to resonate indefinitely through the universe. From the age of radio onwards, we have been cast adrift in a sea of technology, waves of information crashing against our hull. Technology has the ability to connect people, it conversely can also lead to intense feelings of isolation, lack of human contact and disconnection. And so, I find myself scuttled, clinging to the wreckage I drift, trying to make sense of these new horizons which I inhabit. This is a collected series of audio sketches made as immediate, response pieces to specific mental and emotional situations which I have found myself in over a period of two/three months. Composed as a series of sonic self portraits (self landscapes?) using modular synthesis, the individual movements have been compiled into a single, continuous 72 minute piece for performance and recording as a long-form, sculptural exposition of the internal spaces which are brought into being in an attempt to give them solid form and allow the exploration and understanding of them. Thematically following on from the concept of the audio, a visual treatment has also been produced. This uses visual analogue noise and feedback loops as a signifier of the times we live in where noise reigns over content, the illusion of social interaction brought about by the proliferation of Facebook where information is posted to be seen rather than to open dialogue, the pretence of connections and communication, the devaluation of the concept of ‘liking’ something to the push of a button on a website. The modern social environment has become little more than hundreds of people shouting and nobody listening. The visual treatment presents the viewer/listener with a world of broken signal, of anomolous patterns, a world of noise in which to scry for visions, for synchronous elements and some form of order embedded in the chaos. Note: The premiere performance of this piece was at The Outer Church in Brighton, 20th January 2012. Marconi's Shipwreck will be available on DVD via Broken20 in summer 2012. Erstlaub

Dawn Above the Cloud Sea on Vimeo
Dawn Above the Cloud Sea After hiking 13km up HuangShan on the first day, we got up at 4am (after only 5hrs of sleep) to go see the sunrise over the mountain. At first it was a tease - the sky got brighter but we did not see the disk of the sun. When it finally began emerging from the grayness of the horizon, a large cloudmist swooped in to block its ascent from view. (the crowd was certainly displeased!) But at long last the mist dissipated, and the glow of morning illuminated the rolling waves of the cloudsea beneath. "Set in the deserted grounds of Paypal founder Elon Musk’s Space X jet lab in Hawthorne, California, the film was inspired by the pioneering spirit of the space race, which, according to Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy, “has defined generations of artists in their desire to use new mediums and question the established rules they were taught to follow.” This cinematic collision between rocket science and visual daring is an apt match for Rodarte’s spring 2010 collection—a symphony of flesh-colored crochet knits, fluorescent fibres, leather bandages and distressed plaid. Costumed in a series of these exquisite creations, Van Seenus blurrily emerges from a shimmering seascape before running through the starkly alluring spaces of the Space X facility... Van Seenus’ hallucinatory journey, punctuated by glimpses of mysterious experiments and sudden rocket blasts, is chillingly soundtracked by LA noise-merchants No Age."

U B U W E B - Film & Video: Buckminster Fuller - The World of R. Buckminster Fuller (1974)
"This film by Oscar-winning filmmaker Robert Snyder, like his other documentaries on "the greats" (Michelangelo, Henry Miller, Willem de Kooning, Pablo Casals, among others), transports the viewer into Fuller's mind and soul. Told entirely in his own words, the film is an intimate, personal and inspiring message from Fuller to our fragile world."

U B U W E B - Film & Video: Marcel Duchamp - Jeu d'échecs avec Marcel Duchamp (1963)
"This film records an in-depth interview with Duchamp which took place five years before his death, at the time of his first ever one-man show (at the Pasadena Art Museum). It records for posterity Duchamp talking about his life, his ideas on art, why he chose to continue living in America after fleeing France in 1915, and why he virtually abandoned his work as an artist in 1923"

Found Objects: The Number Lady
"Title sequence to never-broadcast TV series. Filmed by Southern TV in 1975, and abandoned for reasons that have never been fully explained (though all sorts of rumours abound). Even the subject of the series is unclear, some claiming it is a straightforward drama about shortwave number stations, and others that it's a supernatural story about a a boy who can communicate with ghosts that have been trapped by pylons in a field near his home..."
