Birds of Passage - Yesterday's Stains from 'This Kindly Slumber' [CD|LP|DIGITAL] Denovali Records · den189 available in January on all formats at [http://denovali.com/birdsofpassage] Following 'Without the World' and 'Winter Lady', the New Zealander Alicia Merz of Birds of Passage returns with her third album 'This Kindly Slumber'. Like a cocoon, this album will envelope you in its many layers. Quiet storms filled with ambient atmospheres, densely layered choral drones, fragile vocals. Harsh reverberation, gently lulled by sweet musings, offset by poetic and philosophical lyrics, ebb away into blissful ambience. With allusions to dark-pop and classic broken-folk, the anti-climactic compositions of Alicia remind us that she is a singer songwriter for people who don't like singer songwriters. Climb into the cocoon of 'This Kindly Slumber'. This place of refuge will find you when you most need it, take you to the world within its folds. Experimental, Shoegaze, ambient, Singer-Songwriter, electronica, "this kindly sumber"

Winter To Spring, Further Than First Thought by David Andree + Josh Mason (Album Preview) "Call, Response" was conceived of as a long distance musical conversation between Josh Mason and David Andree. A single take of material performed by one artist was recorded to magnetic tape and sent to the other with the restriction that accompaniment be recorded in real time as well, closely simulating a live performance. Over time, as the players learned more about each other and their methods, an overarching quality to the body of work developed from their shared sensibilities. The call and response format allowed the voice of each artist to be present, interacting and intersecting, within a murky atmosphere punctuated by melodic fragments and moments of clarity. Pratītya The Buddhist concept of "pratītyasamutpāda," translated as "dependent arising," refers to the interconnectedness of everything in the universe. The first part of the word, from which this piece takes its name, means "dependence," and the live video and audio processing is dependent on input from the bowl itself, and it grows organically from the bowl's single tone before collapsing back into it. Dead Pig Collector audiobook excerpt Listen to an excerpt from Warren Ellis' Dead Pig Collector, read by Wil Wheaton. From the wicked imagination of award-winning writer Warren Ellis comes DEAD PIG COLLECTOR, a love story with a classic Ellis twist. So while it might be a love story, it’s also about killing people and disposing of their bodies in the most efficient manner possible. DEAD PIG COLLECTOR introduces readers to Mister Sun, a very proficient businessman whose trade is the murder and spotless removal of human beings. Like any businessman, he knows each transaction is only as good as his client - and today's client, in Los Angeles, has turned out to be so dangerously stupid that Mister Sun's work and life are now in jeopardy... audiobook, "warren ellis", "dead pig collector", "wil wheaton"

gabriel saloman - soldier's requiem (album preview) *Excerpts from the album. Now available at Experimedia.net.* LP version with download code. Gabriel Saloman furthers his dive into the dynamics of sound and delivers four pieces of intense yet restrained requiems set to piano, guitar, and drums with Soldier's Requiem, his follow-up to last year's highly-emotive record Adhere. Although touching on his past in Yellow Swans (with Pete Swanson), Saloman continues to explore the noises within rather than the purely physical component of his former collaborator. That's not saying this is lighthearted material. Quite the contrary. This is an album that needs to be experienced on proper volume for potential heart-stopping effect. Sounding as if you may be the last person left on earth, Soldier's Requiem guides you through rain-filled open spaces, epic showdowns and abandoned cities. The debris is floating and in the shadow lurks a guitar-picking Vincent Gallo. Meanwhile, there seems to be marching bands closing in on all fronts while a punk band playing Tim Hecker tracks can be heard from the horizon. Soldier's Requiem confirms Saloman as a man able to further his own musicality while regaining the key elements to his recipe. This is music for modern decay and melancholy.

ASIP028 36 - Dangerous Days More info, full EP and HQ download: asip.me/ASIP028 There’s always private pleasure in seeing beauty where others don’t. Sometimes it’s just a case of the personal outweighing the spectacular but in a part of the world as vast and stunning as Yorkshire, the abundance of scenery makes finding that place an infinitely easier coincidence. Ilkley or ‘Heather Spa’ is one such place for 36 aka Dennis Huddleston. A moorland area on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, it’s served as both a place of escape and inspiration. “It’s a place I’ve visited many times at various stages of my life,” he begins, “coming from Bradford, which has had its fair share of social and economic problems over the years, Ilkley provided an escape from the city and is somewhere me and my friends spent many days and nights. It isn't the largest, nor the most beautiful countryside in England, but it has an undeniable charm that’s felt by everyone who’s visited.” You feel that connection throughout ‘Heather Spa’. It’s one of familiarity and rejuvenation with the exhale of the strings evoking happiness and a gazing contentment. ‘Heather Spa (Burning)’ is just as poised and gentle with its slow, weaving melodies and whilst it’s more clouded and subdued, it leaves a determinedly resonant impression. “There was a huge fire in 2006 which destroyed vast areas of the moorland,” Dennis explains. “I had visited it only a few days prior and the lush green land was replaced by charred cinders, completely decimating the landscape. It was quite a sight to behold and there was an undeniable melancholy in the air. Reseeding efforts and the tough will of nature has reversed most of the damage and Ilkley Moor is alive once again.” The initial inspiration for the ‘Shadow Play’ album, this final instalment of ‘Heather Spa’ marks the culmination of Dennis’ personal trilogy, and helps the ‘Heather Spa EP’ feel like a very natural conclusion to a journey of transition, progression and redemption. "It's come full-circle in a way,” Dennis muses, “Heather Spa as a concept was the catalyst for my latest album 'Shadow Play' and you can see three distinct yet fully-connected chapters on what is a single story; the inception with Heather Spa, the realisation with Shadow Play, and finally with this EP for the ASIP Places Series, an epilogue. I think they're some of the most emotional pieces of music I've worked on and I hope you enjoy taking this final journey with me, right back at the place where it started." ASIP

Anything Anywhere Operating out of Istanbul, Ekin Fil is the solo project of Turkish musician Ekin Üzeltüzenci. Her music first came to the ears of many by way of “Language,” a 2011 cassette release on the Root Strata label. “Language” presented listeners with a fractured, hazy soundworld in which half-remembered melodies and wraith-like vocals cohered into dark and hypnotic masses. On this self-titled album, Ekin opens the curtains a bit, letting in some light and offering up an even more refined album. This is a haunting collection of songs that wouldn’t sound out of place on Drunken Fish Records in 1995, effectively channeling the ghosts of Roy Montgomery and the Bristol shoegaze scene, while occupying similar sonic climes as those traversed by Grouper and Jessica Bailiff. “Anything Anywhere” opens the album and articulates its central concerns, with obscured, rhythmic guitar shapes coiling around Ekin’s ethereal voice. Later, field recordings bring us into the blackened night of “Two Stars,” one of the album’s most stark and exhilarating movements. Ultimately “Ekin Fil” is a remarkably cohesive statement, an album of devotional pieces that function together to form a beautiful, faraway whole.

Eschatology - extract Eschatology – featuring Peter Blegvad - explores endings: the end of land where we take to ships, the end of radio contact where white noise fills the receiver; the end of individual sounds as they echo and decay in diverse locations. It explores historical doctrines of The End, from the physician Hermann von Helmholtz in 1854, to Ragnarök in Norse mythology. “A liner at sea, heading for a port which no longer exists. Gradual realization among passengers that they’ve escaped a general devastation, but they might be the last human beings on earth.” Home-made electronic instruments and vintage tape machines are deployed to develop the sonorities derived from field recordings made in Bergen, Norway. eschatological

mary lattimore - the withdrawing room (album preview) *Excerpts from the album. Available from Experimedia.net.* *Limited to 300 copies on black vinyl. Includes immediate download. Stream the album in full at experimediamag.net.*Chances are you've heard Mary Lattimore play without even realizing it as her harp has graced records by Thurston Moore, Kurt Vile, and Meg Baird among many others. But you haven't heard Lattimore utilize her instrument quite like this since "The Withdrawing Room" sees her equally dependent on the rich acoustic harp sounds and the long decays provided by a Line 6 loop pedal. It's a curious mix of sound and anyone who has twisted the knobs of a delay pedal will be familiar with the erratic, warbled contortions heard on "Pluto the Planet" and "Poor Daniel." It meshes with her clean, cascading plucks in a variety of ways – at times overwhelming them, other times subtly augmenting them. However, her harp gets downright shredded on the 25 minute opener "You'll Be Fiinne" by ringing feedback and throbbing low end that is as exciting as it is alarming. – Ryan Potts, Experimedia Seek solace. Be still and drift. Withdraw and be there. There. Inside. A chair awaits. A beginning built from an ending, from leaving, from afar. In times such as these, The Withdrawing Room is a safe haven to leave behind all that weighs heavily and surrounds us. We remark how comfortable the chair is, how exquisite the view is outside the window, the aroma, the breaths to be taken as you become aware of the minutia all around you and the sounds emanating from Mary Lattimore's harp, warming your feet, your hands, your heart. Breathe. Previous collaborations have seen Mary matching wits with such esteemed luminaries as Thurston Moore, Meg Baird, Kurt Vile, Ed Askew, Fursaxa, and Jarvis Cocker. But for this debut work, Mary sequestered herself in a room, much like this one, to kindle three distinct works for keeping the listener company as he or she enjoys the view. The nuanced notes of the harp strings sing and reverberate amid subtle electronics courtesy of Jeff Zeigler on the 24-minute long piece "You'll Be Fiiinnne;" "Pluto the Planet" meanders at a slow and steady pace as the sun makes its way across the sky and the gentle plucks of the silk and steel resonate within, beyond; the closing chaos of "Poor Daniel" charts a recklessness that embraces the listener as he or she quietly makes their way out of the room to tackle the world anew.

Contemporary artist / musician Terence Hannum is back on wax with two side of meditative and sonic cathartic noise torrents. Following on a dozen of highly regarded solo tapes and cdr, Spectral Life follows the artist through 2 tracks of electronic and acoustic drones blending in the most efficient way all the previous works of the artist. While the A side is made of short different synth-driven pieces blended together in an immense opening track, the B side brings us in an extensive immersive psychedelic journey. Standing as a deep emotional sonic ceremony, this new record draws Hannum at his best, finding his influences from the avant spectrum of black metal as well as bits of modern composition. Kaboom Karavan - Roadmap Short walk with Olaf is Kaboom Karavan ´s debut album from 2007 that appeared as a freely downloadable album on the Mexican based imprint Umor Rex, creating a cult following in the MP3 label scene at the time. Finally now properly mastered and given a well deserved vinyl release. Mixing influences from the Electronica and Ambient scene with Americana, Free Folk and Avant-Garde Jazz to name but a few, Short walk with Olaf is first of all an incredibly beautiful and mystical piece of work that should fall in taste with everyone interested in film music, travels, small villages & deserted places. Olaf finds his place somewhere between the atmosphere of Jim Jarmousch films, Lounge Lizards and Volcano the Bear and is a great starting point for getting into the strange sound world of Kaboom Karavan.

Good Stuff House - Untitled 01 Untitled 01 off Good Stuff House's Untitled debut LP (a reissue TIME-LAG RECORDS' 2006 CD-R release). Out Tuesday July 23 on LP, CS & DL c/o HOLODECK ~ Good Stuff House couldn't be more aptly named if they tried. This trio of Scott Tuma along with Zelienople's Matt Christensen and Mike Weis has been conspicuously absent for a while, but this reissue of their untitled debut serves as a reminder of their potency. Americana is a term that gets tossed around often, but in these dusty hollows it gains meaning. Translucent tones hover in empty space, trembling as they hesitantly coalesce. Folk axioms are broken down into dust so they can be woven back into something new, something beautiful. Dark passages become platforms for larger, more intricate layers. Sunlight creeps in and reverberates through the aural haze as each small element becomes a building block in the light. The tiniest moments are amplified through Good Stuff House's prism as sepia-toned memories become blanketed in vivid color. Miniscule sonic creaks become infinitely spacious drones. Drifting through waves in the atmosphere, Good Stuff House turn forgotten reflections into vivid reveries in the blink of an eye. HOLODECK, GOODSTUFFHOUSE, Scott_Tuma, Zelienople

The Ghost of Mrs Payne (Field Recording 13.03.1975) The mayor has decided that it's time to hear more from Scarfolk's audio archive. This post refers to a previous one about the disappearance of primary school music teacher Mrs. Payne whose body was found encased inside an ancient standing stone (go here for more detail) Forensic examination of the stone revealed that it had originated more than 300 miles away and historians could not ascertain how prehistoric man had transported it to Scarfolk, much less how Mrs Payne had found her way into a 300 million year old rock. The police reported it as a chance accident. When the stone was broken into chunks and sold as 'Payne's Pain' souvenirs in the Scarfolk gift shop, purchasers began hearing ghostly music in their homes. Additionally, the music was heard at the stone circle where Mrs. Payne's body was found, as well as at the geological site of the stone's origin. The souvenirs were recalled and buried at the centre of the stone circle in Scarfolk fields, now the only location where the music can still be heard, but only on the anniversary of the death of Payne's husband who found himself unexpectedly dismembered during a pagan ritual competition for the under 10s. This is a field recording made from the stone circle. field, recording, scarfolk

Igaluk - To Scare the Moon with its own Shadow Igaluk is the creation myth of the Inuit moon. With simple words, the story reveals the complexity of our morals. It inspired me to create a music that, I hope, retains the enigmatic beauty that the moon bears. This live electronic piece was developed in collaboration with the pianist Sebastian Berweck. It is the sonic result of a reflection on performance in electronic music. The performer manipulates (with a keyboard and midi controllers) piano recordings he has previously done in the studio. Igaluk was realized in 2011-2012 at the studios of Technische Universität Berlin, University of Huddersfield and University of Montreal. It was premiered during the Piano+ festival 2013 at ZKM | Institue for Music and Acoustics. Thanks to Sebastian Berweck and Stephen Harvey for their help. piano, live, moon, ambient, electronics

Sone Institute - Struck By A Rock by frontandfollow on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free
Sone Institute - Struck By A Rock From 'A Model Life', the new album from Sone Institute, released Monday 10th September on CD and DL (exclusive iTunes release on 10th, all other sites on 17th) A Model Life brings Roman Bezdyk’s unique and ambitious style out to play again with instantly familiar loops, mid-bar trips and assorted quirk. Witchcraft and Pornography, the opening track to the album, sets off with an echolalic electric guitar riff, like Hendrix on a merry-go-round, while M’Ling introduces a spaghetti western-esque snippet that repeats catchily, like an over-caffeinated ear worm. Sone Institute offers a soundtrack to a world that doesn’t exist (and perhaps shouldn’t), as in The World is a Confusion, where 80’s electronic beats and honking psychodrama intermingle with a vocal that makes sure we know: ‘the world is confusion, a spiral drawn in the sand…’ www.frontandfollow.com www.soneinstitute.co.uk front, and, follow, "sone institute"

pierre schaeffer - le triedre fertile (album preview) by experimedia on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free
pierre schaeffer - le triedre fertile (album preview) Excerpts from the album. Now available at Experimedia.net. Recollection GRM is one more label within the Editions Mego family of labels. Its aim is to make available on vinyl the vast archives of Groupe De Recherches Musicales (GRM). Being released in batches of two every three months, it will present both known and lesser-known works. All releases will be re-cut at Dubplates & Mastering and packaged in new artwork by Stephen O'Malley, featuring bi-lingual (French/English) texts. Some of these pioneering works have been out-of-print in this format for over 30 years, and would be a valuable addition to any serious collection of electronic music. It is worth pointing out that this series is neither a re-run of the original Collection INA-GRM series or the Phillips Prospective 21e Siècle series, but something new altogether. This is Pierre Schaeffer's Le Trièdre Fertile, full version 1975-1976, with the participation of Bernard Dürr. This trihedron, Schaeffer's last piece, echoes the physicists "reference trihedron," linked to the three fundamental measurements of sound: frequency, duration and intensity. The basic signs of traditional sol-fa that enable the transcribing of pitches, rhythms and nuances also correspond to these three measurements. However, it is precisely outside or beyond these parameters that, all through his life, Schaeffer researched music. Hence, qualifying this trihedron as "fertile" is the confession "of a late repentance." On the other hand, and against all odds, this piece was only composed from synthetic sounds, developed by Bernard Dürr. It is Pierre Schaeffer's only purely electronic music work. Here, the synthesizer is rather monitored by sensitivity than by computation principles, thus letting uncanny structures emerge. Cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin, March 2012. Layout: Stephen O'Malley.

She Goes Back Under Water by SpacedogUK on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free
She Goes Back Under Water A piece written by Sarah Angliss in 2003 for Infrasonic - a highly unusual, public experiment to explore the reputed, strange psychological effects of extreme bass sound. There is another version of this piece which incorporates live piano. Unfortunately, this hasn't been recorded. This piece is designed to be performed with live sounds from an infrasonic pipe. It was first performed in the Purcell Room, May 2002, as part of the Soundless Music concert and experiment. OMBRE, "Cara Falsa" by asthmatickitty on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free
OMBRE, "Cara Falsa" A beautiful thing happened when Asthmatic Kitty artists Helado Negro and Julianna Barwick first met: they got to know each other. The result, a collaborative band, OMBRE, and a brand-new full-length record, Believe You Me. Recorded as the newly acquainted pair were just becoming friends, OMBRE shows Barwick's clear, high harmonies and church choir sensibilities melding well with Helado Negro's rustic-Latin-psyche-folk meets big-city-summer-blockparty. Tracks simmer with the mellow chording of nylon string guitars, bubbling electronics, and the comely pluck of harps; they rise high and mountainous with Miles Davis-y trumpet and then disappear altogether. There's a very old school jazzy soundtrack air to these sessions. (An inspiration to the sessions was Clu Gulager's 1969 film A Day With the Boys and Egberto Gismonti's fantastic late-'60s compositional jazz.) It has the feel of a hot summer day in Brooklyn, 1971, the sun through the tenements and everyone sitting in the shade watching the world drift by. Believe You Me is set for release on Asthmatic Kitty Records on August 21, 2012. brooklyn, juliannabariwck, heladonegro

Ghosting Season - 13 featuring. Birds Of Passage by Last Night On Earth on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free
Ghosting Season - 13 featuring. Birds Of Passage A fascination with taxidermy, a love of Krautrock, and interests ranging from vintage synths to gothic Victoriana - Ghosting Season embody the eccentric and the ethereal. ‘The Very Last Of The Saints’ is the debut album from the Manchester-based duo, aka Gavin Miller and Thomas Ragsdale. Stepping off the path laid by the great British leftfield tradition (Eno, Aphex, Seefeel, Global Communication, Burial, Lone et al), Ghosting Season fuse elements of ambient techno, musique concrete, IDM and post-rock into the kind of textured soundscapes that have won them much critical acclaim via a handful of releases, remixes (Radiohead, Cloud Control) and their formidable live show (Fields, SXSW and beyond). Ghosting Season’s sound first emerged as tangents from Gavin and Tom’s previous band project, worriedaboutsatan. While the latter took its cues from the likes of Explosions In The Sky and Mogwai, the pair’s music began to head off into a different direction, one that was informed far more by electronic music, but still incorporated their love of guitars, vocals and found sounds. This new identity bore its first fruit with 2011’s ‘Far End Of The Graveyard EP’. ‘The Very Last Of The Saints’ is a breathtaking debut, moving from beautifully crafted cerebal electronica to tripped out house, glitchy drone collages and more strobe-friendly peaktime techno. ‘The Very Last Of The Saints’ is the first album release on Sasha’s Last Night On Earth label.
