One Caress - Chapter 1 - fuck_me_barnes - Captain America (Movies) [Archive of Our Own]
Steve's rarely been touched in a way that didn't equate to some kind of hurt. The cold metal of a stethoscope against his frail chest or the sting of a needle drawing yet another blood sample, when he was a sickly child. The bone-shattering punches thrown by the neighborhood bullies on the playground, or by his own father at home, drunk and wild. His mother, weak and clutching at him as she grew more incoherent with the drugs as the cancer ate away at her insides. Touch was something he shied away from, something he told himself he just didn't want.

Except...he did. He just didn't know how.

Until he finds a flyer for a local "affection and intimacy services" program.

In which Steve learns how to become comfortable with touch, and there is one very good dog, and a slow-burn romance.

you'll find your way home - Chapter 1 - lucymonster - Captain America (Movies), Marvel Cinematic Universe [Archive of Our Own]
There are a lot of things that don’t make sense to Bucky these days. Things like sex, and friendship, and basic notions of personhood.

Sometimes it pays to enlist a little extra help.

What If We Love Like Fools? - IndigoNight, paraka - The Avengers (Marvel) - All Media Types, Captain America (Movies), Marvel Cinematic Universe [Archive of Our Own]
When Sam had said he went where Cap did, he had meant it. Steve, apparently, had not. Steve leaves Sam behind when he goes to look for Bucky, which is just as well, because Bucky comes looking for Sam.

Remedial - Domenika Marzione (domarzione) - Multifandom [Archive of Our Own]
1. affording remedy; tending to remedy something.
2. intended to correct or improve one's skill in a specified field: remedial math.

Steve always knew Bucky was a quick study, so his progress after he comes in from the cold is a 'when' and not an 'if.' The Avengers are a help, except when they're not. But even when they're not, they sort of are.

devil's gonna follow me (wherever I go) - Chapter 1 - Lyaka - Captain America (2011), Marvel Avengers Movies Universe [Archive of Our Own]
The man who used to be Bucky Barnes lined up his shot. His finger twitched, only once, very precisely.
Help me, the bullet sang.
Ninety-eight floors below him, the bullet glanced off a vibranium shield with a musical ping.
And Steve Rogers looked up.

Run to the Rock, Run to the Sea [sharksdontsleep]
"I could put you down," she says, tracing her finger over the rim of her cup. Her nails are short, manicured neatly. "Or the team I have sitting in the shed behind me would." A bright dot appears on his chest, then. Unnecessary, given infrared sights. A performance piece.

He moves for his knife, the one in his side holster, one of the few he's kept.

"But I thought we might come to a more amicable arrangement, James," she says.

"No one calls me that," he says, reflexively, like he's quoting something he's heard a thousand times. "Except -"

"Your mother," she says. "Yes, James, I know." She leans forward, talks low like she's revealing a secret. He avoids her eyes. "The man from the bridge, James, the one who knew you. Would you like to meet him?"

He leaves the TV tuned to the lady with the sloths. An hour later, someone is talking to dogs the same way. He likes it when Steve talks to him, but the TV can do all the work for both of them. The dogs are better at it than Bucky is, anyway. They wag their tails.

Like Gene Kelly in the Movies [The Avengers, Tony/Steve]
Steve sometimes composes letters to Bucky inside his head. He imagines sending them, imagines Bucky reading them and laughing at him. He knows it's probably not healthy, to hold on so tight to someone long gone, but no one else could understand all the changes in the world since Steve's last known it—sometimes surprising, sometimes disappointing, sometimes reassuring. Besides, Steve would rather hold on too tight than forget.

Life As A Tree House [The Avengers, Tony/Steve]
"Tell Phil here that it isn't weird that I have a crush on Jarvis," Darcy says, dragging the aforementioned Coulson into the room.

"It is weird," Tony says. "I keep telling you it's weird. Plus, keep your mitts off my AI you hussy, he's a monogamous program."

"His accent is just so sexy," Darcy sighs, flopping down on the couch next to a sprawled Bruce. She smiles, kicking at his Hulk slipper-clad feet. "We're having this completely chaste, awesome Victorian romance where he reads to me and I show him a bit of my ankle."

One Hundred Percent Skill, Fifty Percent Luck [The Avengers, Tony/Steve]
Tony plucks the paper off the top that Natasha had contributed. "Wait, is this the shield because that would be awes-" Tony unfolds the scrap as he's speaking and stutters to a halt when he sees nothing but the letter 'V'. "Whats-?" he starts to ask but suddenly Tony's brain catches up and he realizes what he's holding.

Steve lunges across the table but Tony slides back out of his reach, pressing the piece of paper to his chest, right over the arc reactor where he's always warm. He wants to frame this. "Oh no way," he says with glee. "Remember what we talked about. I won this fair and square."

I Stole The Keys To This Guy [The Avengers, Tony/Steve]
What he finds unique and compelling about Steve is his endless enthusiasm and genuine joy about things. The muscles, the height, the hair and the toothpaste smile are all very nice but Tony's figured out, probably after longer than it should have taken him, that those things aren't as important.

He'd had dozens of arguments with Pepper about her thinking she was plain and him trying to get through to that stubborn brain of hers that she was anything but. She'd said, well, compared to the people you're usually with and he'd rolled his eyes and changed the subject every time because he wasn't exactly proud of his history and he hadn't thought that maybe she was just looking for a little assurance.
