Helsinki 3D Urban Models - Helsinki Region Infoshare
The city of Helsinki has introduced two new generation 3D urban models: an intelligent semantic urban data model and a visually high-quality triangular network model. These new generation urban models are based on the latest measurement, modeling and data modeling methods that have been developed over the past ten years. Helsinki is the first city in the world to simultaneously use both 3D urban models.

DoITT - NYC 3-D Building Model
Using the Open Geospatial Consortium's CityGML specification as the basis, the NYC 3-D Building Massing Model was developed to a hybrid specification combining elements from Level of Detail (LOD) 1 and 2. Highlights of the model include the differentiation of building components including roof, facades and ground plane. All major roof structures are modeled. Pitched roofs are modeled; however dooms and rounded roofs are not. All roof appendages are excluded including but not limited to chimneys, parapets, spindles and antenna.  In addition, a subset of 'iconic' NYC buildings was modeled to LOD 2. Lastly the buildings are attributed with a Building Identification Number (BIN) to provide a means to associate other NYC data for analysis and rendering. 3D city and landscape models that is quickly being adopted on an international level.

libcitygml is a small and easy to use open source C++ library for parsing CityGML files in such a way that data can be easily exploited by 3D rendering applications (geometry data are tesselated and optimized for rendering during parsing). For instance, it can be used to develop readers of CityGML files in many 3D based applications (OpenGL, OpenSceneGraph, ...) Most metadata are not lost, they are available through a per-node hashmap.

libcitygml was initally developed by the 3D team of BRGM (the French leading public institution involved in the Earth Science field for the sustainable management of natural resources and surface and subsurface risks) for the research project DeepCity3D. It is now conducted as a Github open source project.

Lehrstuhl für Geoinformatik: 3D City Model of New York City
Virtual 3D city models are a spatial representation of the relevant entities within cities. 3D city models have traditionally been used for many application areas like urban planning, navigation, tourism, disaster management, training simulation and gaming. For most of these application areas the 3D visualization is of highest importance. In this project, a semantic 3D city model of New York City (NYC) has been created based on datasets provided in the NYC Open Data Portal. The resulting 3D city model is represented in a homogenized and integrated way using the international standard CityGML of the Open Geospatial Consortium. It comprises all NYC buildings, land parcels, roads, parks, the digital terrain model, and water bodies – all with 3D geometries. The NYC CityGML model has been exported to KML using 3DCityDB and can be visualized and exported using our new open source 3D Webclient which extends the Cesium Virtual Globe.

The Aristoteles3D was developed to visualize, edit and update 3D data given as GML 3.x conform data. It enables users and developers not only to visualize the scene, but also to gain access to given semantics, attributes or metadata provided with the 3D models. To achieve the necessary flexability during a customization process and reducing the need of source code to be read, there are several easy-to-use plugin interfaces available, which can be used to test e.g. new control-types, new operators to change the scene, new picking components or export filters. These interfaces are a main advantage and are in the focus of this project.

Automatic repair of geometrically invalid 3D City Building models using a voxel- :: TU Delft Institutional Repository
In recent years, the concept of 3D city models has been gaining in importance as more 3D geometry of urban areas is becoming available. Although 3D City models offer a structured way of storing geometry, in practice a significant amount of geometry is not considered valid. This hinders the further analyzing or processing of these models. Since manual repair of 3D City models is very time consuming and prone to errors, automatic repair methods are highly desirable. However, none of the existing repair methods are able to entirely repair all defects in 3D City Models. This thesis focuses on the process of transforming a defect 3D city model into a valid one by using a voxel-based repair method. The first step of this process is the scan conversion of a (defect) 3D building model into a volumetric representation. By applying a set of morphological operators, a single volume without holes can be acquired.

Geometric-Semantical Consistency Validation of CityGML Models
In many domains, data quality is recognized as a key factor for suc-cessful business and quality management is a mandatory process in the productionchain. Automated domain-specific tools are widely used for validation of business-critical data. Although the workflow for 3D city models is well-established fromdata acquisition to processing, analysis and visualization, quality management isnot yet a standard during this workflow. Erroneous results and application defectsare among the consequences of processing data with unclear specification.We show that this problem persists even if data are standard compliant anddevelop systematic rules for the validation of geometric-semantical consistency. Atest implementation of the rule set and validation results of real-world city modelsare presented to demonstrate the potential of the approach

The Digital Model of City of Prague of is based on photogrammetric analysis of aerial images, Spans the Entire city, and visualizes relief, buildings, bridges and greenery. The attributes of buildings are based on Classified Types of surface (vertical walls, flat or slanted roofs, chimneys, dormers, Spires, etc.) and Can Be Differentiated graphically. Buildings with texture are replicated from photographs Currently in a testing stage. The Model of Digital City is Mainly Used to Incorporate new designs of Real Estate Developments and Their Impact on the ASSESS the skyline and views from and of the heritage site in Prague. This 3D model is ook Used to verify space regulation, particularly height of buildings, as part of drafting the new land use plan. A part of the model is Used in the "Central Prague from a bird's-eye view" application.

The validation of a solid is performed hierarchically, ie first every surface is validated in 2D (with GEOS), then every shell is validated (must be watertight, no self-intersections, orientation of the normals must be consistent and pointing outwards, etc), and finally the interactions between the shells are analysed.

Takes a CityGML file with Buildings stored as gml:MultiSurfaces and creates gml:Solids. It doesn't modify the geometries nor validate them, it just converts the tags (or add new ones) so that buildings are 'bundled' as gml:Solid too. The rationale is that often buildings are solids and should be represented as such (it permits to for instance calculate the volume of a building, its surface area, etc.).

Berlin 3D - Download Portal provided by the Business Location Center
Berlin’s digital 3D city model is a joint project of the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Technology and Research as well as Berlin Partner for Business and Technology. In line with the Open Data Initiative of the city of Berlin, the Senate Department for Economics, Technology and Research provides LOD2 Building models and a digital terrain from 2013 for free download.
