Steve, it's not your fault, Sam had tried to say, before Steve cut him off, and Steve doesn't think that's untrue so much as it's irrelevant; fault's got nothing to do with it. It's just—wrong. It's wrong. Steve couldn't wrap his head around it the first time, how wrong it was. Steve should have gone first. Was supposed to. Bucky could have carried on without Steve, he knows, but Steve without Bucky is a zero sum. There should never be a world that Steve is in and Bucky isn't.

Sure, Kent Parson is gay. But that’s not his biggest secret.

Just before his 20th birthday, Kent Parson is hooking up with a stranger in the back of a bar. A year later, he's captain of the Las Vegas Aces, has won the Stanley Cup, and finally sees Jack Zimmermann again.

Oh, and he gets a cat.

Jack doesn’t really want to be friends with him, or with anyone, not here at this school and with these people. He wants to keep his head down and keep moving forward, keep playing and getting better and power through this year or few years or however long it will be, and move past it.

Life seems to have other plans, as life does.

I don't know if this is trashy enough for the meme, since it's more of a recovery fic? But by God I would love to read something like this:

Bucky falls, Steve crashes, etc. Except instead of being frozen for 70 years, Steve is found after only a few years, marries Peggy, continues living mostly happily even though Bucky's death still haunts him.

But then Bucky is found in a HYDRA facility. He's not fully Bucky, not fully the Winter Soldier (I'm imagining with the metal arm and combat skills, goes back and forth between remembering and not, was still trying to fight back against HYDRA but on the edge of breaking). Steve is fucking ecstatic. And as it happens, so is Peggy, because she was also a little bit taken with the Sergeant during the war.

They take Bucky home, because he can't live on his own and they won't send him to a SHIELD facility when he can't even remember his own name somedays. Sometimes Bucky can remember that he loves them both, sometimes he's terrified of both of them and screams whenever they come near, sometimes he shuts down and follows orders robotically. He can't handle any sort of sexual contact, and shuts down if anyone mentions it. When he has nightmares, he mutters "stop" and "please don't", and repeats his rank and number over and over.

Basically, I want Bucky recovery trash with caring Steve and Peggy.

He had forgotten what curiosity could feel like. Whoever the impostor was, he’d need help, and this team might not be equipped to find him. Bucky had been a soldier, once. Competent and skilled. The best, they’d said. Something inside him rose up from dormancy, came alive at the thought. He was a soldier once and he knew how to do this: where to go, how to get in. Skills that were his unique gift.

Epikegster 2014 starts with Bitty’s Winter Screw date crashing the party, and ends with Kent Parson giving him his hat and four tickets to an Aces game.

Anakin's never found much serenity himself, despite all the meditation he's been subjected to over the years; maybe working on this ship will do it.

If Jack’s learned anything from Shitty, it’s that Jack deserves nice things now. There is not a timetable on happiness. And Shitty is certain a future means “fucking fuck all” if Jack’s “a miserable, broken robot”. And regardless of any promises, Jack is certain no one could protect him from Eric Bittle because even the armor of Jack’s recovery had done nothing in the face of southern hospitality and unconditional, unapologetic love.

Between Shitty and Bitty, Jack is spoiled with the now.

Tony blinked up at the face staring down at him. This was impossible. This was definitely 100% not possible, he had not just started giving a good morning handy to -

After the events of Civil War, Tony and Steve wake up in bed next to each other in an alternate universe. It goes about as well as you'd expect it to.

"Surprise," Bucky said. "I picked up a glass ball from some lady when I was eight and now it's hatched into..." He closed his eyes like it physically pained him to say it. "A dragon."

"So dragons are real now?" Steve asked weakly.

"Bucky started the car, and that was it: the Sam and Bucky Road Trip of Sadness and Maybe Bonding was officially happening. Sam hoped they could get through it without killing each other, or anyone else." In which Sam is not as okay as he'd like to think, and Bucky's more well-adjusted than expected.

Kent Parson has well over ninety-nine problems. He has a chronic potty mouth, a sneaking suspicion he may be an actual idiot, a narcissistically-named cat with gas issues, too many sisters... the list goes on.

Kent Parson has more than ninety-nine problems and Jack Zimmermann — freshly, resentfully and recently traded to the Las Vegas Aces — is definitely one of them.

Sam Wilson has to pull Bucky out of cryosleep. Captain's orders. But before he can be of use, he has to guide Bucky through some extensive therapy to undo Hydra's brainwashing. Each word chains to a series of memories. Are the memories real, or just a horrific byproduct of his conditioning?

After finding himself alone for the first time in decades, the Winter Soldier learns how to be a person again. Mostly through caring for an orphaned kitten, countless rounds of YouTube roulette, and stalking Captain America.

“I watched a documentary on the bombs dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima a while ago. In the blast radius, sometimes a… a person blocked the bleaching effect of the radiation. So the person was vaporized, but a shadow was left behind, on a bridge or a wall – their shape, their outline, when they were completely gone," Steve said. "It’s called a nuclear shadow.”

“If you’re implying the Soldier is like a nuclear shadow, then that is seriously fucking dark, man,” Sam said dryly.

Before the fall of the Soviet Union, the Winter Soldier was sent to the American arm of Hydra - only there was a malfunction in the cryo-unit that meant it couldn't be opened, and it was left, powered but abandoned, in an underground base.

25 years later, the Avengers find it.

Set very shortly after Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Few if any spoilers for Age of Ultron. There's a line taken from the Civil Wartrailer, but blink and you'll miss it.

This is basically an escape from MCU angst, imagining how things would be if Bucky had indeed fallen from the train back in WWII but never became the Winter Soldier. All the fun of a man-out-of-time getting used to the 21st century without any of that troublesome trying-to-kill-Steve stuff. After destroying the helicarriers in DC, Steve works with the other Avengers to stamp out hidden Hydra bases and finds Bucky: in cryofreeze but still very much himself. Steve is ecstatic to have his best pal back, of course, but now he has to deal with his long-repressed feelings for Bucky. Much longing ensues.

“Hey,” you say. Wipe your palms on your scrubs, and yeah, you're a little nervous, because this guy is gorgeous even if he does already maybe have an equally beautiful boyfriend. “It's Sam, right?”

“Yeah,” he agrees, “yeah, that- how come?”

“Well, even if it's too soon to adopt,” you say, carefully casual, “you know you can come by any time to visit these guys, right? They always need walking, too, we foster for the local shelter.”

“I'll keep that in mind,” Sam smiles, hesitates a little before he holds out a hand. “Nice to meet you, man.”

“James,” you say, returning the handshake and the smile. “It's James.”

Steve believes Bucky is dead for exactly a week. Then he doesn't.

(AU where Steve rescues Bucky before Hydra can turn him into the Winter Soldier. They get to go home from the war, but that's only the start.)

“We can do it,” Steve said.

Turns out when you're missing an arm, everyone asks are you okay? all the damn time. And when your soulmark is one of the most common questions in English, it's even worse.

Generic soulmarks are a bitch.

A wicked smile slowly spreads across Kent’s face, and he turns to Jack. “What do you say, should I show your boy how to make you cry?”

'Do you think they'll accept me?' Steve had asked doubtfully, staring down at the flier. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! it bleated at him in sour Hulk green, which he thought demonstrated a serious lack of tact considering it was an advertisement calling for people to work with kids left with PTSD after the Avengers levelled half their home city. 'I mean. I'm the one who caused half the mess.'

'While defending the earth from aliens,' Natasha pointed out.

In which Steve joins a support group, realizes rebuilding New York isn’t just a one-man job, and tries to figure out what the hell is going on between him and Bucky.

Steve Rogers met Tony Stark in Afghanistan in 2011, when they were taken captive after their convoy was decimated by the Ten Rings.

Three years later, Steve is slowly getting his life back after the trauma of an imprisonment he can barely remember. He still has nightmares and attacks of paranoia and panic, and still blames himself for the death of the soldiers under his command. But he also has his friends, a cat and a good job. Most of the time he's happy.

Then he comes back from a weekend away and discovers someone's been staying in his apartment. And then he sees a beautiful, haunted man who shouldn't be familiar, but is. Steve's nightmares suddenly include a stranger with blue-grey eyes, and he wakes up mourning for someone who may not even be real.

And then Steve learns in the worst way possible that there was another soldier with him and Tony in the cave: James Buchanan Barnes, who kept them alive and then supposedly died helping them escape. And who no one told Steve about, because he couldn't bear to remember.

Bucky is alive, and he was in Steve's apartment. But with his careful, quiet life unraveling under the strain, Steve might never be able to find out why.

It’s inevitable, the way it goes. He’s my friend, Steve says, and he is, he is, he must be. Sam’s best friend is Steve, and Steve’s best friend is a werewolf, that’s just how Sam’s life works now.

But once he realizes he’s attracted to Bucky and Bucky can tell, everything becomes, like, a thousand percent more difficult to negotiate. Sam’s just trying to live his life, that’s all, and he keeps getting confronted by Bucky Barnes in a soft flannel shirt, sleeves rolled up, hair all soft and shiny. Bucky glances over at him and smirks, and this is really very embarrassing, how Sam can’t hide his attraction even if he keeps a totally straight face.

It’s their first day off in a month and after an exhausting mission all Sam wanted to do was to stay home instead of being dragged by Bucky on a tour of DC’s touristic highlights. But a superhero’s work is never done, especially not when there’s explosions, problems you can’t punch, and a screening of the Greatest Film of All Time.

Kent selflessly volunteers to fake-date Bitty to protect Jack and Bitty's relationship. Everything goes really well and there are no miscommunications or attempts at self sabotage on Kent's part at all, because he's an adult now and is definitely not carrying a torch for either one of them.

Kent Parson has a lot of things to be thankful to Las Vegas for, but the people that he's found here may be the most important.

Kenny's name had been coming up a lot. Partly because these days, it was hard to talk about the NHL without talking about Kent Parson. Partly because before Samwell, Jack's experience of an American Independence Day had always included a birthday party for Kenny. Partly because - well, because being in Madison with Bitty was. Well. Strange and uncomfortable, in a lot of ways, this week of all weeks, that maybe had Jack worrying at those old frayed ends more than usual.

“So do you guys know if there are any people playing D&D in the area?” Stony asks on the first day of camp.

Or: if you'd told Kent in the off-season that he'd be hooking up with his rookie's hot nerd of a brother, he would've laughed. (He’d still have gone for it, though.)

So maybe a job as an SSR desk clerk wasn't as glamorous as punching out Hitler more than two hundred times, but it still put a roof over Steve's head and food on the table.

This made me wonder so then I had to research and - the first photo booth debuted in 1925, in Manhattan. Headcanon 100% accepted, this was absolutely a thing that Science Nerd Bucky Barnes would have made Steve go check out.

When the police uncover a hidden sub-basement in the home of criminal Alexander Pierce and find a tortured omega and his three pups, they bring them to the Stark Omega Clinic, a non-profit dedicated to rehabilitating traumatized omegas.

After dark in September 2005, fourteen year old Bucky Barnes vanished. Eleven years and three pups later, he is far from the boy that went missing from a suburban neighborhood outside of Denver.

Steve Rogers is an alpha of some means. When he came into money, he decided to use what he had for good and sign up as a candidate to be a support alpha for his close friend Tony's charitable clinic. When he takes on the task of helping reintegrate Bucky and his pups into the world, he doesn't expect to fall so hard.

Bucky Barnes was finally getting a chance to play stickball with the bigger boys on his block, after months of acting the schnorrer and begging his cousin David. It was going great- he'd finally hit the ball and knocked it out right of the park, a home run for sure! At least until the ball hit a little boy, Steve Rogers, watching them play right in the kisser as it came down.

Steve opened his mouth to ask what “colorfully” meant, then caught the gleam in Tony’s eye and put two and two together. He blushed. Colorfully. “Oh.”
