Collecting Data from Messy Websites | Computational Journalism & Python
Taking a closer look at the json data is where Firefox really shines. If you were looking at the data in it's raw form, it would be a garbled mess of text, colons, and curly braces. With Firefox, you can just follow the requested URL and then start picking through the key-value pairs. The key we're interested in is called "list-items"; open the tree, and we find numbers 0 through 29, and nested underneath each is a company, its ranking, and a whole lot more data.

Landmarks browser extension
This is a browser extension (for Firefox, Chrome and Opera) that enables navigation of WAI-ARIA landmarks, via the keyboard or a pop-up menu (from the extension’s toolbar button).

Landmarks broadly signpost the areas of a page (e.g. navigation, search, main content and so on). They can make navigation considerably easier for people who use the keyboard to navigate and those using assistive technologies such as screen-readers, because they make it much quicker to get an overview and to navigate to (and between) areas of interest.

TableTools2 - Copy/Sort/Chart/Filter Table&More! :: Add-ons für Firefox
very practical feature is the "copy" function. This copies either the whole table or only certain columns or rows to the clipboard, so that you can simply paste it into your favorite text editor or program of your choice. You can also sort cells on the website or hide them to unclutter the table and then copy that adjusted data.

Dafizilla Table2Clipboard :: Add-ons for Firefox
Mozilla applications allow to select rows and columns from a table simply pressing Control key and picking rows/columns with left mouse button.
The selection can be copied to clipboard but the original table disposition is lost making ugly results when you paste the text on datasheet applications (eg excel).
If you want to paste data in Microsoft Excel on OpenOffice Calc with correct disposition simply use Table2Clipboard.
Pasting in plain text editors is also supported as CSV file (but you can change rows and columns separators from option dialog)

Next to the microphone on, you’ll also see a little camera for the new Search by Image feature. If you click the camera, you can upload any picture or plug in an image URL from the web and ask Google to figure out what it is. Try it out when digging through old vacation photos and trying to identify landmarks—the search [mountain path] probably isn’t going to tell you where you were, but computer vision may just do the trick. Search by Image is rolling out now globally in 40 languages. We’re also releasing Chrome and Firefox extensions that enable you to search any image on the web by right-clicking.

Internet Evolution - Robert McGarvey - The Myth of Browser-Based 'Do Not Track'
The three tools are wildly different. IE requires the user to populate a list of sites the user does not want tracking him or her.
Sounds cumbersome? Hold on, because it may actually be the most effective. Put a site on the IE list, and it probably won’t be able to track you.
That is not so with the Google Chrome extension, which, to be effective, requires advertisers to play ball. “For this to work, advertisers have to agree to honor the request to not track this user,” says Scott Vernick, a privacy attorney at Fox Rothschild LLP.
Fat chance of that, right?
“I see the Chrome tool as a publicity stunt by Google,” Pace's Hayes caustically notes. “They have gotten a lot of flak about invasion of privacy, and so they come back with this.”
The Mozilla solution seems to follow the Google tool -- that is, its success hinges on the willingness of advertisers to play along.

HTTPS Everywhere is a Firefox extension produced as a collaboration between The Tor Project and the Electronic Frontier Foundation. It encrypts your communications with a number of major websites.

Many sites on the web offer some limited support for encryption over HTTPS, but make it difficult to use. For instance, they may default to unencrypted HTTP, or fill encrypted pages with links that go back to the unencrypted site.
