Creative Canvas — Bring Your Creative Project to Life
The Creative Canvas — an adaptation of Alexander Osterwalder's Business Model Canvas (BMC) and Ash Maurya's Lean Canvas — is designed for individuals working in creative disciplines. The original BMC, developed in 2008 with a global crowdsourced collective of 470 practitioners, is an entrepreneurial management template that helps both novice and seasoned entrepreneurs understand the key components of startup and growth. Business Model Canvases have been central to the success of thousands of entrepreneurial ventures around the world, and today you can find copies on walls, whiteboards, and in presentations and boardrooms at startups, nonprofits, and Fortune 100 global companies.

NYU Shared VR Experience ‘CAVE’ Heads to Tribeca | Animation Magazine
In CAVE, co-created by Ken Perlin, Kris Layng, and Sebastian Herscher, audiences are dropped into the distant past where they encounter Ayara, a young woman struggling to decide whether to accept her role as her tribe’s sole emissary to the spirit world. The creators chose to fittingly bridge this world of fireside storytelling with the latest innovations by telling an origin story for transportive imagery, which began with cave paintings.

The piece was designed from the ground up to challenge the status quo of how audiences collectively experience immersive arts and entertainment. The coming-of-age tale is told using the cutting-edge Parallux system, a fundamentally new kind of shared VR technology that allows virtual experiences to be shared by as many as 50 people in the same location. Unlike conventional 360-degree VR, viewers see and hear the story — as well as one another — from a unique point-of-view within the same virtual environment, letting them feel as physically present in the shared world.

“The implications for the future of cinematic experiences are profound. Rather than merely seeing a story projected onto a screen, large audiences are able to enjoy a deep level of social immersion far beyond what was previously possible,” said Perlin, director of the Future Reality Lab and a professor of computer science at NYU’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences.

Benchmark datasets for entity resolution | Database Group Leipzig
Datasets for Binary Entity Resolution

In the VLDB 2010 paper [1] we present a first comparative evaluation on the relative match quality and runtime efficiency of entity resolution approaches using challenging real-world match tasks. The evaluation considers existing approaches both with and without using machine learning to find suitable parameterization and combination of similarity functions. In addition to approaches from the research community a state-of-the-art commercial entity resolution implementation is considered. Our results indicate significant quality and efficiency differences between different approaches. We also find that some challenging resolution tasks such as matching product entities from online shops are not sufficiently solved with conventional approaches based on the similarity of attribute values.

Below you can download the datasets used in our evaluation. The zip-files each contain three csv-files: Two are the entity source files, the third one is the perfect mapping. Please refer to the papers to see how we determined the perfect mapping.

Predicting the Reasons of Customer Complaints: A First Step Toward Anticipating Quality Issues of In Vitro Diagnostics Assays with Machine Learning
Background

Vendors in the health care industry produce diagnostic systems that, through a secured connection, allow them to monitor performance almost in real time. However, challenges exist in analyzing and interpreting large volumes of noisy quality control (QC) data. As a result, some QC shifts may not be detected early enough by the vendor, but lead a customer to complain.

Objective

The aim of this study was to hypothesize that a more proactive response could be designed by utilizing the collected QC data more efficiently. Our aim is therefore to help prevent customer complaints by predicting them based on the QC data collected by in vitro diagnostic systems.

Methods

QC data from five select in vitro diagnostic assays were combined with the corresponding database of customer complaints over a period of 90 days. A subset of these data over the last 45 days was also analyzed to assess how the length of the training period affects predictions. We defined a set of features used to train two classifiers, one based on decision trees and the other based on adaptive boosting, and assessed model performance by cross-validation.

Results

The cross-validations showed classification error rates close to zero for some assays with adaptive boosting when predicting the potential cause of customer complaints. Performance was improved by shortening the training period when the volume of complaints increased. Denoising filters that reduced the number of categories to predict further improved performance, as their application simplified the prediction problem.

Conclusions

This novel approach to predicting customer complaints based on QC data may allow the diagnostic industry, the expected end user of our approach, to proactively identify potential product quality issues and fix these before receiving customer complaints. This represents a new step in the direction of using big data toward product quality improvement.

Information mapping - Wikipedia
The information mapping method is a research-based methodology used to analyze, organize and present information based on an audience's needs and the purpose of the information. The method applies to all subject matter and media technology. Information mapping has close ties to information visualization, information architecture, graphic design, information design, data analysis, experience design, graphic user interface design, and knowledge management systems.

Brazilian E-Commerce Public Dataset by Olist

Welcome! This is a Brazilian ecommerce public dataset of orders made at Olist Store. The dataset has information of 100k orders from 2016 to 2018 made at multiple marketplaces in Brazil. Its features allows viewing an order from multiple dimensions: from order status, price, payment and freight performance to customer location, product attributes and finally reviews written by customers. We also released a geolocation dataset that relates Brazilian zip codes to lat/lng coordinates.

Learning Hub | Teaching datasets and exercises
Teaching datasets
CLOSER has developed a teaching/training dataset based on the 1958 National Child Development Study (NCDS). It is fully documented and is available via the UK Data Service. We have also created a series of suggested teaching exercises to use with this dataset.
The dataset includes variables from eight waves of the NCDS, from the first sweep in 1958, to the age 50 sweep in 2008. Variables in the dataset include:
personal and family background (respondent sex; parental education and class)
cognitive ability
education
marital status
employment status and social class
political participation
wellbeing
health indicators (including BMI, drinking and smoking)
The dataset comprises respondents who have taken part in every sweep of the study (complete cases). A subsequent data set will be prepared that includes respondents who have taken place in some but not all sweeps of the study, so students can learn how to deal with sweep-level missing cases. This dataset will be available soon.
Teaching exercises
We have developed teaching exercises using this data set on the following topics. The first PDF in each topic sets out an exercise and the second PDF provides the answers to those activities:
