The Secret History of Hypertext - The Atlantic
History has left out some figures? Who would have expected. The Atlantic is only rediscovering these historical figures of hypertext because the scholars have published books for The Atlantic.

Mega Menus Work Well for Site Navigation (Jakob Nielsen)
Wouldn't have thought these would work, but on second look, I can see why they do: Mega menus appear almost as a new page, redefining the context of the selection. But try it on a mobi to get the real beauty of stumbling over your own fingers.

Your WYSIWYG Editor sucks
outlines the concerns of developers, which is a good insight into how and what they think. includes that pesky gender problem: the smes are gendered as women, getting a little too creative for the developers and either slow in learning or just plain obstinate. interesting how the typist is still gendered and the solutions to them is still administrative.

EPIC FAIL: the sorry state of web education in schools | opensource.com
via tech_rhet. Move away from teaching and using proprietary software - from Word to Dreamweaver - and start incorporating open source and web-based stuff - the kind of stuff that students can use to get beyond the proprietary. Excellent little article, but I wonder what took them so long to figure this out. Academia doesn't move as slowly as all that. Been doing this, and wrestling with it, for years. Might want to read this in conjunction with TBL's Long Live the Web.

WPtouch: Mobile Plugin + Theme for WordPress ↔ BraveNewCode Inc.
I added the WPTouch plugin to mcmorgan.org/blog. It is superb: well-designed for the small screen, fast, detailed in its execution. It's value-added for visitors to a WP-blog.

"WPtouch: WordPress on iPhone, iPod & Android More than just a plugin, WPtouch is an entire theme package for your WordPress website. Modeled after Apple's app store design specs, WPtouch makes your WordPress website load lightning fast on touch mobile devices, show your content beautifully, all while not interfering with your regular theme."

Monograph | Teach the Web
A passable review of what web developers see a valuable in learning web development and design. As expected, the focus is on understanding theory, engagement, malleable learners. The article stereotypes higher ed courses as too slow to adapt. Also relies on the outdated bicameral mind to address the differences in practices in development and design. Worth tapping into.
