Sheet music – Donal Baylor
Sheet music
Now here’s quite a collection of fiddle tunes in standard notation that I once acquired and have never been able to relocate, so I am happy to share them. There is a great blend here of old time, bluegrass (including some great twin and triple fiddle arrangements) and set pieces. Enjoy!

Songs are grouped by letter and downloadable as PDF.

Ken Brown - Session Tunes
Session Tunes & Resources

There is a "Celtic Jam" at the Black Horse Pub held the 1st Sunday of each month from 2-5pm (note the new schedule as of Jan 2012). All players of all levels are welcome - sheet music is OK too.

This page is lists some of the tunes we play here in Peterborough. Mostly we play Irish tunes, keeping to a theme. However, we all like other music as well, and don't mind straying from the genre.

Free Sheet Music: O'Neill's Waifs and Strays
O'Neill's Waifs and Strays
"O'Neill's Waifs and Strays of Gaelic Melody" is a classic collection of around 350 Celtic session tunes. These treble clef tunes are suitable for fiddle, flute, trumpet, clarinet, or any other treble solo instrument.
"Session" tunes are dance tunes; commonly, two or three tunes are linked in sequence, one after the other. These are tunes passed aurally from player to player over hundreds of years. The transcriptions are only interpretations of the tunes; many players embellish the tunes as they play. The chords are only suggestions -- you may wish to alter the chords as you play. Note that most tunes follow the traditional "I-IV-V" chord model.
You may also adjust the "tempo" of these tunes; many sound great when played quickly with spirit. Others are best when played slowly with feeling. Experiment and see what works for you. You can use the provided MIDI files to help you determine the proper tempo (many midi players let you adjust the speed).

Folkladen München
The FolkLaden was established in 1979 in Munich by Rüdiger and Heidi Helbig. Their love of acoustic music and vintage instruments has turned the FolkLaden into Germany's most active center for fine old Martins, Gibsons, Epiphones, Guilds, Kentuckys, Deerings, Vegas and many others. Besides our many lines of new instruments, from e-guitars to brass and accessories, we are constantly scouring the US for the kind of good used instruments sought after by European players. Check out these pages for some idea of what we have but make sure you call to get up-to-date availability info because things move fast. We welcome you to our web site and hope to see you in Munich soon.

Volkstanznoten A - F von Franz Fuchs
Unter dieser Seite "Volkstanznoten" werden Noten für in Niederösterreich übliche Volkstänze veröffentlicht, überwiegend zweistimmig mit Begleitung, in Bearbeitung von Franz Fuchs. Ergänzungen folgen in zwangloser Reihenfolge.

Nigel Gatherer's Tune of the Week Compilation, Volume 2

On my forum (The Gathering) I have a tune of the week feature involving a nominated tune which people play and discuss. It's building into an interesting collection of tunes (we're at No.40 just now), and I have compiled the second 21 tunes into a PDF-format book, available free of charge (the first volume is still available - see the Tune of the Week home page). The tunes are mostly Scottish, but there are a few Irish, a Swedish tune and even a little Beethoven piece!.

Cecil Sharp - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cecil James Sharp (22 November 1859 – 23 June 1924) was the founding father of the folklore revival in England in the early 20th century, and many of England's traditional dances and music owe their continuing existence to his work in recording and publishing them.

The ABC Music project - The Nottingham Music Database
These tunes were not originally checked by hand, so there may well be mistakes here and there. The Nottingham Music Format has a notation for repeating previous bars, so if this has been incorrectly handled you may find entire bars which are wrong - this will certainly be the case if you uploaded this collection before 12th October 1996. There are places where part labels are used not to mark a part but to write some other text above the stave. If you can't make sense of the abc, try looking at the source in the original database. This collection last uploaded on 20th June 2003.

Montreal Session Tunebook
Welcome to the Montreal Session Tunebook

This website is a resource for traditional music with a particular focus on music played in the Montreal sessions. This includes music in the Irish and Quebecois traditions as well as music from England, France and elsewhere. Many of the tunes are written as they are played in the sessions around the Montreal area and so might be slightly different from versions played elsewhere.

In addition we host several collections with more than 3000 tunes available as pdf sheet music, in abc format and midi files.

We do not have any recordings on the site, so if you are looking for mp3's of traditional music you are in the wrong place

Free Celtic Sheet Music - Download Sheet Music
Celtic or Irish sheet music -- want downloads? Let's start with "Francis O'Neill"? Celtic music today owes him a great debt -- he collected, published, and saved the sheet music for thousands of Celtic tunes, preserving them for musicians all over the world.

Born in Ireland in 1848, O'Neill emigrated to the United States as a teenager.. He worked as a rancher, a teacher, a Chicago policeman, and fathered ten children -- and also found time to play the flute!

O'Neill did not read music -- he played by ear -- but he became convinced of the value of saving Celtic tunes for future generations. With the help of a fiddling seargeant in the Chicago police department, he did so. He would play the tunes he had learned from other musicians -- and the sergeant would transcribe them into musical notation.

By his death in 1936, he had collected and transcribed nearly 3,500 tunes -- many of them dating back hundreds of years!

He eventually published eight books -- the three most popular being O'Neill's Music of Ireland, The Dance Music of Ireland, and Waifs and Strays of Gaelic Melodies. The first volume is still in print -- but the other two are very hard to find (especially Waifs and Strays!) These three volumes contain over 3,000 popular Celtic Tunes!

We are pleased to present over 3,000 tunes from these three books for your free download pleasure. Most tunes are in PDF format; many include matching MIDI files. Note that you may have to alter the speed of the tune to suit your needs.

The Fiddler's Companion
Since 1996 the Fiddler's Companion has been a popular internet resource for those interested in the body of traditional music usually associated with the violin, generically called 'fiddle tunes'. Primarily dance music, the genre also encompasses listening music and music written for specific occasions. The Fiddler's Companion is used by musicians, investigators and writers as a research aide, a source for information and lore, for general interest and just for the fun of browsing.

Indexing began in 1987 and continues through the present, and is the sole work of the editor and identified contributors and sources. The cross-referenced entries themselves are arranged in the ‘Alphabetical Files’ section below.
NOTICE: 1/1/12 The Fiddler’s Companion is being converted to a Wiki format and is renamed to the Traditional Tune Archive (TTA) at www.tunearch.org. The new wiki will provide greater utility for searches, data submission, querying, etc., and each and every entry is being re-researched for the latest information, and new entries are being added.
If you have found the F/C useful, please check the TTA at http://www.tunearch.org.
